    • Maybe he thought that she was going to hurt him and it's possible that the owners it had before must've been abusive which is pretty obvious because they never sheered him and the other llamas were looking at him like "hey it's ok you're safe with us now and that lady is here to help us too"

  • I love that you are patient with his reactions. And a good explanation for why you have to continue even though he's stressed--this is what is ultimately best for him, so you need to continue for his sake. Sometimes animals react poorly to things that they really need. It's the carer's job to work through that and around that.

    • A lot of people don't know what they're getting into when they buy large animals or agree to take them from someone else no longer able to care for them. Also, people's life circumstances and ability to provide proper care can change drastically for a number of different reasons. This is why it's important that we 1) educate the public about the time and energy it takes to provide proper care, 2) support responsibly-run rescues and sanctuaries, and 3) destigmatize rehoming animals. Rehoming may seem like a bad thing, especially for animals who are bonded to their humans, but the alternative is a sad, slow decline into severe neglect.

    • with shearers, large animal vets and farriers(hoof vets) there is a distinct lack of them. i live in a rural area and there are(where) 2 large animal vets within 100 miles of me, one just shut down 2 weeks ago. the local farriers are usually just hillbillies that picked up some hoof cutters and cracked a beer and started hacking away. I don't know of any shearers within 100 miles of me. another issue is that they might not even come out if they cant make enough. i own one miniature horse(use to take care of 12, bought one and skedaddled). i cannot get a farrier to come out and see her. I either live too far away or I don't have enough animals. its the same for vets, they WILL NOT come out unless i have a large number of animals. i have to haul my horse in, and just hope she can get onto the trailer. the worst part is that i live rural, this is where you are supposed to have large animals. people don't want cows and horses in their backyards in the cities. I've mostly just taught myself to trim my own horses feet(when i was 12 lol, now 26). there are tons of online and in person classes if your willing to travel. i have also taught myself to shear because i used to take care of a few sheep and an alpaca. i will not shear other peoples animals.

  • I too have just discovered this channel. I was surprised at the number of subscribers, but jolly well done. Llamas aren't very loud, but what a huge relief it must be for him to get rid of his coat. Fascinating stuff. Thank you chaps.

  • Amazing 🤩 first thanks to the people who rescued him from the auction 👍 and then the shearing 🎉 all I kept thinking was that has got to feel so good for him, air actually touching his skin, the weight being sheared away. Awesome job as Always Katie, you are amazing and you can just tell you care about the animals 💙💙🙏🙏😇😇

  • Katie, you are a very cool human. It’s clear to see this is more than a job for you! The way you are gentle with even the toughest of customers shows how much you care. Thank you for what you do and how you do it!

  • I absolutely love watching how caring and loving you are in shearing the animals, knowing what they have been thru and are going thru. You are a very Compassionate person.

  • Despite his crying, I was amazed by his willingness to stay still. I had found you in "shorts", then subbed for the relaxing watching you transform a living being. Amazing women you both are! Shivering black bell thumbs up 👍🏻😎.

  • I live in on a farm in Australia and even though I live in Victoria, which is one of the cooler areas of Australia, we still have very hot and crazy dry summers followed by a rough bush fire season. I agree that every animal that grows a thick fibrous coat (Inc, Sheep, Alpaca, Llama) absolutely needs to be sheered at the beginning of the warmer months. I never say a specific month because obviously in Texas you are now just starting the warmer months and sheering season. In Australia (the southern hemisphere) we are currently in Autumn and almost in Winter. So a lot of Australian and New Zealand farmers won't start shearing until around September which is early spring for us. Plus its usually a month away from lambing for sheep which keeps the udder clean for the lambs and everything much easier to keep clean.

  • The closest I have never been to a llama, alpaca or sheep is at the petting zoo. Even though I know nothing about your line of work, I really love watching and listening to you explain what you are doing. It is so obvious the love, care and respect you have for your animals. I love watching you work.

  • I can’t imagine what that must have felt like under there! He got instant relief. It’s already near 100 down here (tx)! He was so well behaved - that was amazing honestly. What do you guys do with that trailer full of hair?!?! Imagine losing that driving down the Highway! Great work ❤️

  • Its too bad that we can't communicate with them and tell them that it will be very scary but they will feel so much better afterwards. I'm so glad you have the nerve to get through it and help him.

  • For his first time I was amazed at how little he reacted. It appeared the trimmer noise near his ears bothered him more than the feel. Of course, not carelessly nicking his tender skin contributed a great deal toward his overall trust and comfort with the whole process.

  • I'm only halfway through and he looks soooo much better than he started out as. Just the first mat coming off made a huge difference. Poor baby was so miserable and scared, but I bet he feels a whole world better afterwards.
