When I went through a long illness, I couldn’t get anyone to shear my goats around here, didn’t last 6 yrs but it was over two. Me too. I could see she was cautious at first. Poor creature. I used to work on a horse farm and we got in quite a few in terrible condition. I bought one who couldn’t be a school horse that had serious ringbone but worse, a blown knee and split hoof. He’d been a well known eventing horse who took a jump wrong. His owner kept him until he was 14 but the damage wasn’t properly remediated. It took almost a year of care for the foot to stabilize the crack and while we couldn’t entirely mend it, he would be ok for the rest of his life with proper shoeing. The knee was beyond repair but we could medicate and make him more comfortable. His right front foot occasionally drag so he couldn’t be ridden over pavement or grass or by anyone heavy so my daughter used to lie on his back in summer and read. Or ride him at a walk or fast walk for exercise in the sand ring. He was utterly bomb proof. I used to use him for summer camps to teach basic safety and grooming. He loved people. With me he had a silly sense of humor, stealing hats, tools, and tickling me while I groomed him. In time he also loved our farrier and would untie his apron while he worked. He lived to be 22. He was the most lovely boy.

@@snuassauns; they might not have had a choice. Livestock can just wander off, sheep are renowned for it. If the farmer/owner doesn’t find them in the next muster, the animal goes without a haircut. Usually, if they don’t reappear, it’s because they were killed by something and the missed haircut is the least of their problems. Occasionally the animal comes wandering back in; or get caught by another farmer; months/years later and a long overdue shave is given as soon as possible. Of course, there’s also the possibility that the previous owners didn’t know they need to shear their family pet and things just got out of hand. We don’t really know.

Sometimes cuts and nicks happen because there are irregularities under all the coat that the shearer can’t see or feel until the cut has happened. Shears are incredibly sharp - even the non electric types! The animal might also choose to move at just the wrong time, because it isn’t comfortable in the position it was placed for the shearer to work. I can’t think of a single shearer who would NOT be upset about accidentally curing and hurting an animal under their care. This is a really precise skill that takes a LOT of practice to do well, and make it look effortless. Kudos to folks willing to apprentice, study, learn, and practice this vital art for animal welfare.

@@debshaw680 H was so very lucky to have you, I suspect. Thank you for that.
Hope you and your animals are ok now. Take care.
@@debshaw680 thank you for sharing that! He was a lucky boy to have you!☺️💗
Legitimately very impressed with how calm this llama is. No kicking or freaking out. Well done by the shearer too, no nonsense, careful and attentive to the animal's behavior.
I think this llama is just feeling like "Jeez, you are finally going to remove all of this fur ? I already love you so much"
At some point the Llama must have become tired of all that mess. Looks like Llama abuse to me. It's REALLY heavy. Animals vibe...they know when you're helping them. Plus I bet it feels really good...it's itchy under there.
Llamas are all over the place on behavior during shearing. It’s maybe one in twenty or thirty that will just stand calmly. If it’s an intact male you can just forget about cooperation
I agree absolutely.
Если вас за нос приковать к забору будете спокойны.
The weight and pain he had with all those mats and pulling on his skin. He had to feel like a new man, poor baby!😊
Even if he’s not entirely happy about the haircut, I can only imagine how much more comfortable he is right now.
Exactly! He's a smart boy and I know hell be more relaxed in the future.🤘🏼
He said he feels light as a feather
Comfort haircut
He did great for not having been shorn is so long! I don't understand why they let him go do long without a cut.
No resistance whatsoever, the relief the animal is showing..... that is so rewarding. Thanks for sharing and shearing..
fr, I feel like they visibly loosened up a bit as soon as they felt the matting start to come off
Learn to be gentle please. It's been 6 years 😮😢
Can you imagine starting your day looking like a wildly overgrown Llama, and ending it looking like a sleek, gorgeous, short-necked giraffe? 😊 So cute
You are such a positive influence. You are a blessed savior for these animals. I love your videos. Blessings
What a transformation. I'm impressed with how still that llama was with not having been sheered for 6 years. Great job, Katie, for mastering the llama's huge fleece removal. I especially loved how you removed the big, super heavy blanket in multiple sheers and dropped it away from the animal. And going back to do a final finishing sheer made that a beautiful video and llama in the end.
It didn't really have any choice with its muzzle tied to that fence!
You can see he's freaking pissed about it at first, but his ears gradually started perking up a little bit as the heavy matting was shorn off. I bet he was so much more comfortable afterwards. 💖
TLC is what this poor baby needed, and it got it. You were so kind to it. Much happiness to you wonderful person, always and forever.
I have spent many hours in a shearing shed in NZ ,not shearing but wool handling and sheep pen filling. You are a pleasure to watch, careful, confident dominating. Keep up the great work
Indeed.. I think it takes a special kind of soul to make a good Sheerer... sherer???
@@faithrada I think shearer? Now you got me going, gee thanks 😻😻😻
@@meenha1976 sheeress?
Such a beautiful animal. Katie is an absolute expert in shearing animals. I'd love to see the wool after it's been cleaned and spun. ❤️😊
Unfortunately after 7 years it is too tangled and dirty. I am a knitter using natural materials only.
I loved him at the end when he raised his head up with such pride and confidence. What a gorgeous creature
So did I. I think I may have been proud for him too!
Such a beautiful pattern hiding under all those mats! Poor baby looked like he lost half his weight by the time he was done and looks so much better. Wonderful job!
What a beauty underneath all that wool!!!
Love how you're so caring and careful with the animals. Can't get over this guy I made the mistake of watching and he left big gashes all over a sheep. That baby looked so beautiful and proud at the end. Special shout out to your awesome wife and cinematographer!
The person doing the cutting is a woman.
@@shanawilson8541 I know she is, and her wife is filming. I was referring to another channel where the guy left gashes all over the sheep. I follow this couple on Instagram as well.
This is spot on! I make mistakes myself. No sheep is perfect, nor am I! I just do the best I can 🤘🏼
That is extremely hard to watch. People do have to start somewhere, but not sure that belongs on the internet.😔
When shearing that tail, the little flicker of "eek! I can move it again!" was felt through my whole being. What a magnificent creature, alas!! Looked quite dandy (and maybe quietly dancing) and sweet once it was all done! I've taken in foster fuzzies (and squawkers, quackers, shelled, and just about any other animal) and it's always a pleasure to see their true selves pop out from the weight of their pasts! 🥰
I smiled when thetail wagged, too
@@elainegothard OMGoodness me too!
What a gifted shearer! Beautiful outcome.
Her skill is so unbelievable here, that it’s like watching a great doctor perform surgery. God bless you, he is so happy now!
I've watched a lot of people doing shearing to different animals and I must say you and your wife are the best I've ever seen in your job ty.xx from Glasgow Scotland x
I love how gentle they are, no throwing the animals round.
Pozdrav Dali ste gledali kako se šišaju ovce makazama (rucno) ovaj nacin rada je lak u odnosu na nekada kako se radilo A ovom bracnom paru svako dobro zelim . Sjajni
I totally agree
I've seen many and they are the best!
Poor guy hasn’t felt his own skin or the wind blowing in years. That’s awful.
I know! 6 years? Poor baby.
I know 😭
You can almost feel the relief in the body of this llama. Bless his heart, he is a new man now!☺️
What a good boy he was. He almost seemed to enjoy his neck being done. What lovely fiber he will have next year. So skinny under all that too. I'm thankful he is in better care now. I miss your voice over!
He went from a plump Llama to a skinny one. He needs more groceries for that gorgeous giraffe colored body. The dirt accumulated in his fleece had to be murder on your blades. I love that you always have a smile and such a happy attitude. New to channel but now a dedicated viewer. Used to have sheep ( spinners flock) and a Angora goat.
should one bathe wool animals before shearing?
Poor guy, he is so skinny under all that fleece that noone could tell. Thank you for being so gentle with him. It looks like he's been through a lot and hopefully is now on the way to recovery.
All camelids are. Look at the wild guanaco. That’s what all llamas look like underneath.
They aren't supposed to be fat.
Thank god you came to the rescue 😊. I watch you while I crochet .
Wow. Knowing you work in Texas Nd living in Houston myself I couldn't imagine having to wear a heavy winter coat year round. It takes a very special person for these animals to be so calm while you shear them and to know you're there to help. I realize you are paid by the new owners to help but keep up the great work fixing human screw ups. God Bless you for what you're doing.
I love how patient you are with that poor baby. I'm sure that the difference in comfort is absolutely HUGE!
And the happy tail wag says it all 😍
Shanta Williams(So) the reason the other ones had big ashes on them in that as if they explained at the end it's because the the match that were in the sheep we're so tight that it pulled the skin and made the razor cut into them it wasn't that he was doing it wrong it's because the maps were so tight against the skin that it pulled what he was shaving it that the shaver cut into it that's how the guy explained it at the end
I wonder what all that fur weighted.
You can tell as soon as he realizes what’s happening he just kinda stops moving. Looking so perfectly calm in a state of bliss.. amazing work
I like how every time the clippers got near it's tail it would wag and twitch it so the sheerer would know, "That's my tail! It stays." I love the pattern on this one. Total cutie.
He looks so surprised. They just wanted the fur. He sniffed it as he left. It must have felt wonderful to have the sun on his short hair.❤
Very satisfying to see some love given to this big guy. Hopefully, his current home keeps his looking dapper and shorn on the reg.
Standing so proud at the end! It must feel so good to be free of all that weight.
I am always so impressed by your skills. The way you make the animals as secure as possible and work to keep them comfortable and at the same time you can concentrate on your work. I could watch you do this for hours.
Your shearing videos are relaxing to watch
I love watching you work. You do it with love and compassion. Thank you.
I am amazed how well this llama is standing for not being sheared for 6 yrs. It must be a sweetheart
I love how happy he seems to be able to flick his tail more freely. That must be a pretty good feeling for him. ❤️
You are so gentle with the animals. I'm addicted in watching you shear. Something very satisfying about it. Great job. Can't wait to watch the Playlist.
This is the most peaceful shearing I've seem you do. Beautiful.
The stomp at the end, PRICELESS. She was like well damn, I feel good, looking back at you the whole time! Obviously appreciative! I know you've got to love what you do!!! It's SO rewarding!
You're always so careful with the animals you shear! This must be back- breaking work, at times, but you always seem so happy, once the animal is free of all that weight. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. Much Respect!
I always feel such a sense of relief when they're done. I can imagine the way the animal feels....
Bless his heart I bet he sure does feel a lot lighter and better now
Katie, you are so gentle with the animals, you made her look great but more than that feel so much better. Great job!
Poor thing. You did an amazing job. Love watching you work. She looks amazing after the hair cut!!!!
How pretty, the tail was wagging, I'm sure the llama is happy to get the weight off, great job.
Surely it did🎉
You always get the job done right Katie ❤
This guy would've produced such wonderful fleece if he was cared for properly!! He's such a beautiful llama under all those mats!
Good thing he will produce more in a year I guess
Can this "golden fleece" be used?
@@user-mh4rw4ix2b It can, although alpaca fleece is considered better.
@@chilltime4878 Thank you.
Fleece that matted is not viable.
Poor thing...that's a lot of fiber to be carrying around! He must be so much cooler now! What a beautiful fleece he would produce if cared for!
She seems very happy 😃 I love your videos but I like when you narrate. You have a great personality and it keeps me watching!!
You have amazing skills in taking these beautiful animals and shearing off the unkempt rough mass of extra weight to reveal the true nature of their wonderous vision. Thank you for being that great animal care expert.
It looked as though you were carving a llama out of a pile of fluff. Very soothing and fascinating. Thank you.
You did an amazing job! You have a gentle touch, exactly what this baby needed (now, a good bath, scratch all it's itches and itch all it's scratches).
Just a extremely patient and talented groomer. Very physically hard to do and in such a gentle talented way. Very world-class professional.
So beautiful! I don't think he was happy with the process, but he certainly seemed proud of the result! Look at that tail!
Amazing job - quick and gentle - cutting the mats so as to avoid them pulling at the llama's skin - very impressive. It's also wonderful to watch because it's nice to think how much more comfy the beastie will be afterwards - good job.
Excellent job, beautifully and kindly done. The effort you took to ensure the pull on her skin by her fleece did not hurt was awesome. She looked so proud and almost regal when you were done. Lovely animal and lovely vets. Great to watch. Thanks for the video. 🤗 💐💐🍫🍫🍹🍹😍
You and your wife are absolutely incredible. The way you work and how calm and gentle you are with these animals, not like some of the other shearers that I have seen on this medium. They could all take lessons from you two.
Lovely that you’re so considerate of the animals
You can tell when they feel the air on their skin after being neglected for so long. They just relax. But you see the skin flakes and problems and you just want to cry these animals are so wonderful to see them so neglected is heart breaking. THANK YOU
That llama was incredibly patient and sweet considering it hadn’t been sheared in over 6 years!!! Only threw a few tiny jerks at you instead of full on fighting! Glad it’s all shorn and comfy now!
This makes me want to cry. He/she looked so regal but tentative, walking out of the corral. Great job, Katie. I like the llama's little delay with its head over your shoulder as you were releasing it from the halter. It was like, "Thanks, Katie"❤.😢
Bless your heart! He was so patient with you. He’s been waiting years for relief. You rock!!!
He was so patient on the left side, like a statue. I wonder why so fidgety when Katie started on the right. Overall such a good llama though. Of course, much credit to Katie for being so gentle with him working to gain his trust.
I wonder if part of it is because the cord was touching his backside and back of his legs and it tickles. Then he was just tired of the time spent, even though it was quite quick.
Some animals just have preferred sides too, I'm a dog groomer and theres a LOT of dogs that are totally fine with me drying them when they're facing left but suddenly I turn him to face right and dry the other side and its CHAOS AND MAYHEM AND PANIC lol
I think he might've had a bad knot on that side that was causing pain. He was much calmer on the right side for the close clipping
Truly a genuine PROFESSIONAL and an EXPERT are your craft and art of Shearing, - The lama could FEEL you ~ she sensed you are there to help her, - I could see all her discomfort just be sheared away- you gave her such comfort and releif that comes from having all that matted yarn removed, ~ She feels vibrant and uninhibited from all the weight of her yarn removed, ie approx. 90lbs
I love seeing your art! It has to be Art with how beautiful you can make these creatures look when you are finished!
Thank you for the work you're doing. You are literally changing and improving the lives of these animals. You're amazing!
What a calm llama, and beautiful markings! Must have been such a relief.
That poor llama. Stood so calmly awaiting the salvation you brought. A very soothing video before bedtime. Thank You for sharing this with us. Such kindness & patience. Bless ya'll baby!😘
