Mental Health does not discriminate... Personally, I'm average in terms of social class, but I would not exchange my life to live theirs. I realize that my privacy and freedom are privileges they did not have and no money in the world could make me want to give up these things. It's mind blowing that people think that because you are rich, you should automatically be happy.
There was more opportunity for privacy there than they appear to want now. Of course they were on show when they were working, which wasn't very often, but living on the Windsor Estate they had every chance to be private. As for freedom, most people have to work so are not free all the time, but they had a great many European holidays and Meghan even had a couple of trips to the US - one to go to the US Open tennis and the other for a baby shower. I think you'll find that most people would be delighted to have so much freedom.

But if they are stepping away from their duties they must also give away their titles , the privileges and should NOT expect any aid from the UK because they themselves got away with it . And they left to be away from the media scrutiny but now what are they doing here? Giving interviews back to back, discussing and degrading their personal matters and family members who the couple loves very much in front of the whole World, paying media to get their photos . Can't help to form an observation after finishing 4 seasons of "The Crown" 1) The institution has always been very consistent in their principle throughout many hundreds of years- it is not a subjective decision, or an intentional decision directed to one particular person, it applies to all 2) The royal family has its own school of thoughts- all families do. And in such case, "When you go to Rome, you play by the Roman's rule" 3) The royal family emphasize tradition and duty to the monarchy lifelihood above their own individuality. There is no individuality there, only roles which would work in sync if each role understands and shares the same mission: that the bigger picture is the only one thing that matters In short, I feel that Meghan and Harry are just not sharing the same mission as the rest of the royal family- they need their individuality heard and protected. Harry, probably has had much more "freedom" than William (as he's not the next King in line), hence, this freedom gave space for his individuality to shape, (ie individual hunger, curiosity and the importance of individual rights). Whereas for the RF, individual rights have never been in the picture. It has always been duty to the crown above all
You fail to mention the element of race! Despite the monarchy being consistent for hundreds of years, many have stated that the monarchy must learn to adapt and modernize, especially considering they rely on the good opinion of the public and popularity to continue thriving. How can an institution do that if they refuse to denounce racism???

This. Harry and Meghan's "hardships" are a bit relative... I mean, sure, I have empathy with them and their situation. It sucks to be a British royal, no argument there. I wouldn't do it (properly). But lay off me with their "hardships"! They live in a villa. They make money off of the fame of their names. They will never NEVER have to worry about subsistence. They already have it better than 90% of humanity.

Your average Croatian could probably not tell you who is the next in line for the throne, which of the family are alive or dead, or why Diana was so very popular in her time. Secondly, the fact they are rich and famous has its own problems - but to compare them to the problems of people who are barely surviving is hubris. It is not trivial that Oprah and the media fawns over royal drama while neglecting those real and much more serious issues of socio-economic inequality. The idea that the British monarchy teeters on what the media says about it is an illusion. If anything, the family (the firm?) will be most at risk when there is no new scandal coming up to put them back on the front pages. Their job is to create drama so that UK citizens forget to ask the important question of, why do we even need these people? Again, I have empathy for Harry, Meghan, their kids, but also for Elizabeth, William, Kate, Charles, and the rest. They were born/married into an absolute circus, and all their money would not tempt me to step into their shoes. But let's not forget - it is a circus of privilege.

I know what it's like not being accepted into a family you married into. I was told even that I'm not the part of the family and I have no right to say anything, however my husband did NOT stand up for me. He went along with the bullying and belittling, he allowed his family to degrade me. Just because I was not the same nationality as them. I too was suicidal. I don't know how I lived through those days.... I think Meghan feels like she owes an explanation why she felt like she had to leave. It seems like it did not clear up things anyways. I don't know. My first thought hearing this was... "well of course they would be worried about his skin color. People face so much discrimination and hate based on that, of course you would be worried for their child to have to deal with that" and "of course you are curious about the color because duh mixed race parents, that part is the biggest surprise" (I have a few mixed race friends and we are all always super excited to discuss or hear the parents wishes for whom the kid should look more like, i.e. mum's color but with those green eyes)... Very long comments from me regarding to the disgraceful interview : Ms Markle lied she didn't know anything about the royal family: she knew, she used to have a blog where she wrote about Prince William and Kate's wedding, she was pictured in front of the Buckingham Palace at age 15, her idol was Diana, she wore Harry’s mom favourite’s perfume in their first date and she knew Princess Eugenie before met with Harry She said her son is not a prince due to his race: It is because of King George V's law, as Archie is the great grandson of the monarch and not direct line of throne, he didn't get prince title. He will, when Charles will be King as Archie is his grandson (though after his parents moved to different country, stepped back from royal duties, threw trash to the royals, lived in the UK for only 7 months, I don't think so he will ever get any title). Also needs to mention, Meghan was very welcomed in the family and she got title.. furthermore Archie is the copy of his father except his eyes - even his skin colour. She didn't want to show curtsy to the Queen as she's Harry's grandmother. Everyone knows, you have to curtsy to the Queen, disrespectful not do it. She said they got married 3 days before their wedding: the Archbishop of Canterbury denied it, their marriage certificate says they married on 19th May, the day what we saw on the TV, also in the UK you need to have 2 witnesses - she said it was just 3 of them with a bishop - so a big lie again. Maybe Meghan should talk with her dear husband first. Harry was complaining about his father, saying he didn't give him any money - though they posted a statement on instagram - still available - , they say they want financial independence. At age 19 her engagement with Prince Charles announced, at age 20 they got married. No one explained to her anything, she didn't got any support or love from her husband. A year later, she became a mom, a future King's mom. So in less then 2 years at age 21, she had to be wife, mother, Princess of Wales, with royal duties and responsibilities, also a pressure as a mom of the future King and as a future Queen. Her marriage with Charles was by duty not by love. She knew her husband cheated her with Camilla for years. She was shy and humble, not searching for attention at all, she was the Princess of the People - oh, yes, and always told the truth. Meghan got married with Harry at almost 40, mature, independent, knows-what-she-wants, already divorced woman. At the age she married with Harry, Diana was already dead. She was the oldest royal bride (Camila is exception, cause it was Charles' second marriage, and it didn't hold in church). She knew what family she married into. She was a celebrity, she enjoys fame, limelight, attention. She likes when everything is about her, and when everyone gives her right. As Harry said: What Meghan wants, she gets - tells everything about their relationship. Even in this interview, Meghan was the leader. Harry said, Meghan was the one who told him he is trapped (how could he trapped? he was born into this family and he was fine for 35 years) and she saves him and she quickly interrupted and corrected her husband: he saved them. But in the royal family you have to be humble, respectful, boastful people like Meghan doesn't fit in. She is very manipulative too. She turned against her family, and then she turned her husband against his family. Little Archie and baby sister will not have any family members except their parents and maternal grandma. No great grandma, grandpas, uncles, aunties, cousins.. no one, no family bonds. Diana would be the saddest seeing how her younger son turned against his family. She said, she wants to see William as a King supported by his brother, Harry. She supported and respected her country and the Monarchy she would never left her country, in the interview she said the monarchy is her children's future. Also, she was sad when she was forced to divorce from Charles, she didn't want to break out from the royal family. I used to really like Harry (after his youth scandals) and I really hope, at least now that his grandfather died, will realize, how important family is and finish this childlish behaviour, because he just embarrass himself. If he wants to protect Meghan he doesn't have to attack and betray his own family and hurt others. Also was very disrespectful this interview at the time, Prince Philip was in the hospital in bad conditions with heart surgery - and they knew it but didn't care.

In addition to everything else that has been said I think the timing of the interview was carefully planned. It went out just before the Commonwealth day. A day of unity between many varied countries, many of them with a black or brown populations, now got overshadowed by racism allegations against the RF. And the Queen has dedicated her whole life to the Commonwealth, up from 8 countries when she got married to 53 today. She claimed she only wanted a title for Archie so he would have security. That's wrong, not all royals have security. The decision on which members of the Royal Family get protections is made by the U.K. Home Office, and Metropolitan police. Scotland yard reviews the need of security for each of the royals and can upgrade/downgrade their need. The Royal family can make requests but doesn't make the decision. And Archie would have been covered by his parents security. One last thing that makes Meghan look petty. She kept using the name Kate and it's a nickname Catherine hates and none of the royals would ever use it, especially not in public. And since it's something the tabloids knows annoy the dutchess they will never stop using it, and apparently it's the same now for Meghan.
