This is the all-new Hyundai i20!
Hyundai have given their small hatchback a total revamp, and it’s got the likes of the Volkswagen Polo & Ford Fiesta in its sights! The question is, doesit have what it takes to topple these class leaders?
As for the looks, well it’s certainly more striking! The new grille gives it much more aggressive look, as do the creases that have now been added to the bodywork.
Unfortunately, the aggression doesn't continue under the bonnet. The i20 only comes with one engine choice - a 1-litre 3 cylinder turbo-petrol that comes with mild-hybrid technology. It only puts down 100hp, although the hybrid tech will help give you a little boost through the starter motor. Although, let’s be honest, you probably don’t need too much ‘oomph’ if you’re buying an i20!
So what do you think - do we have a potential new class leader on our hands? You’ll have to keep watching to find out!

He has always done this.

It was about time.More "normal" cars pls wich we can sort of afford.
He’s one of the best if not the best
It's like a space mounted car
For the price point and type of car, I think it's one of the best looking cars in the class.
Matt: Lets check out the boot. The capacity is 353 litres. Also Matt: The small car with the biggest boot is the Skoda Fabia (image appears on screen showing the Skoda Fabia only has a 330 litre boot).
It’s not only about Liters. Shape is important!
@@petrosrz8990 when we say "biggest" we mean capacity. a better shape would be "more practical". either Matt made a mistake about which has the biggest boot, or the editor put the wrong screenshot

I noticed that at 5:25 as well and was thinking "Mat you're high". 😂

@@kpopkpop5235 I watched this on the evening it came out, it’s really only vehicles with the 2 litre and 2.4 litre engines, I would disregard that for this car.

They probably only had 4... 😂

@@Twongz_does_anything what? 😂. What kind of useless measure would that be? Might as well tell us it fits 1 suitcase. That's like them saying the car can do 0-60 in 30 seconds if you accelerate slowly, rather than quoting the fastest it can do 0-60
I had the 2019 DCT model and it was an amazing car. It ticked a lot of boxes and was surprisingly stable at high speeds (around 160 kmh, don’t ask how I know). I have driven 55k kms in under 2 years, went to Italy, France and many places. Never had a single issue. It’s an underrated car.
lmao having issues in a car before 100.000km/5 year warranty is to be expected, I mean why you think they give you that warranty?? because it's almost guaranteed to run fine until you run out of warranty LOL!
@@xorkatoss well, I purchased a BMW and got two (medium) issues in the first 6 months… I had to take it twice to the shop to get it checked/repaired. So a warranty doesn’t necessarily equal to no issues.
@@xorkatoss thats why you trade it in and buy the new model before the 5 year warranty runs out; works like a charm ;)
I own i20 in India and I absolutely love it
I had the 2019 5-speed Version and I had the same experience it felt reaally good and stable and controllable at higher speeds like 120kmh and up

I feel that Hyundai designed that parcel shelf deliberately so Matt had no excuse to throw it in a hedge.

@Zerofightervi 😂
That's so true!! 😂😂
I personally really like the exterior, including the back, and the interior. For such a cheap car, it really livens it up and looks interesting.
I wouldn’t class £18,500 as a starting price as cheap 🙄
But the design is not ageless. After one year or less it will start looking old or boring. BTW too much OVERDONE.
in india, we can get an i20 for almost 9 grand euros, so, here, it is cheap!!!!
@@dakshbhatia6513 why is that?
@@dakshbhatia6513thats the asta model no? And maybe not the premium one tho, but still cheap indeed for that price

Matt actually missed an important thing about this car: the clutch is "by wire", the pedal isn't directly connected to the clutch, but uses an electrical signal and an actuator. That allows the car to decouple the engine from the transmission, allowing the car to coast when you lift the foot from the throttle, and at the same time makes the clutch pedal lighter and easier to use in city traffic.
That might be a good thing. The previous version's clutch ist aweful
Does this apply to the non hybrid version too?
@@Petrrii only the hybrid ones have the iMT (intelligent Manual Transmission)
He said it actually
I dont know why KZheadrs make such a scene regarding hard plastics on the dashboard, i mean who tf always touches the dash and drive ?
Oh Matt, always risking his delicate hands on the scratchy plastic though he might break a nail.. he does it for the good of the public. What a great chap!
When he reviews "NORMAL" cars he expects them to have the features materials and build quality of much more expensive vehicles. Who cares about hard plastics on a dashboard? I don't fondle or squeeze the one in any of my vehicles. The only time I touch the dashboard is to clean it.
This truly made me laugh 🤣🤣🤣 thank you for such a good laugh :)
Hi Matt, nice review that helped made my choice for this i20 about 6 months ago :) however, here in France we have slightly different caracs for the high-level: no heated seats (shame), dual-clutch automatic gearbox with 7 speeds (very cool, and gives a level 2 autonomous driving), two-tone paint (black on the roof) and the car is fitted with 17" Hankook Ventus Prime 3 tires (less noise tan Michelin, and grips a bit better on the dry). After more than 10k kilometers, it's a very nice car, playful on twisty roads, awesome on long highways trips! If I had to change it, it would only be for the N version with 204hp 😁
You should do a test of the stereo systems of the cars, especially for these lower end cars
Hyundai = Reliability All ends there 🤝
Looks like the seat Ibiza for some reason 😂 these are amazing little cars and not just for grannies, these are just brilliant, really should be appreciated. Missed these reviews 😫😭
The infotainment system it is very good same as on new Tucson. I did Test the car and it is a big improvement
Those alloy wheels look brilliant 👌🏻
Hey Matt, Love that we are finally getting a review of the new i20, just bought the previous version i20 last year. Well in my opinion I love the new i20's design and styling, the interior design could have been done better but I don't mind it. Im happy that the car is still decently practical enough in fact more practical than the Suzuki Swift, which is why i bought the i20. The one I have I find it nice and comfy on the road, but I bet the new one is better to drive, in saying that i would love to test drive one and I would especially like to try the new i20N. However sadly for me I would have to wait a very long time before one gets to my country in fact I do not see the new I20N coming here either which is such a shame. If its as good as you say I may consider buying the new i20 as my next car, 😉,
Matt is kinda starting to review these budget cars the same way he would with a luxury car
that's bad.
nope
Well he is Matt 'the racist' Watson, of course he would if the car is from Korea.
@@TD1237 this is the second time u r making this comment why do u say he hates korea or call him racist? Do u have proof

Actually the exterior got me first and I had no issue with the plastic interior. I would rather have the i20s interior than piano black everywhere which gets dirty AF. The digital dash and the reverse camera also sold me on the car because here the i20 with all these costs much less than an entry level 208 or the cheapest Fabia/Fiesta/Astra. The only car offering better value for money is the new Dacia Sandero BUT after seeing them both, the i20 felt night and day compared to that.
A request from Sweden. Please add litres per 100 km in your reviews as well. You might have an wider audience than you think Mat:) thank you for great content!
First impressions, I dig the styling.
The fact that the title is comparing the 911 to a i20
Except it's comparing Mat's 911. He has a 996.
@@snakeeyes9246 and yet, the only comparison he made is that they have the same tyres.

Hi Mat please do some more head-to-head reviews, I would like to see you review this alongside the Polo and the Focus
Hey Mat, I'd love to see a head to head review of the Leon, Golf, Octavia and A3, pros and cons of each, but comparing models which are roughly equal in value. For example, I lease my cars so I'm debating whether to get an Octavia VRS or an A3 Saloon S-Line 1.5 next. They are around the same cost on a lease, the Skoda has more equipment and a bigger engine, but the Audi is better looking, does it have a more premium interior? I'm not sure. ...loads to cover there I feel and would be really interested to get your thoughts.
There is a bit of Seat to the external design and I agree the rear is a mess. As with so many new cars, the dashboard design leaves a lot to be desired. Consolidating controls in to a touch screen has left designers with acres of blank dash. Personally, I think the traditional design with switches, dials and knobs looks far better, is easier to use and safer when on the move.
The way they hid the fuel door reminds me of the 2013 Ford Focus hatchback
🙃😡✌️
X6 Matt? You need to wear your glasses more often as that was a 2 series gran tourer 😂😂😂😂
I thought the same. 😂
I'm glad you brought back, the rating system/Verdict... "Avoid it, Consider it, Buy it"...this helps another. Thank you.
YEA thanks you my guy. Been waiting for ages for this.
4:44 why not 5? In the left corner lol
Came looking for that comment exactly!
I thought the same..
I think there's a woofer there
Exterior design language reminds me VAG group and more precisely Seat design language. Without badges first time seeing it, I definitely would guess this as some new Seat model. I like it.
Holy. The load cover is genius
The Hyundai i20 has scored the Indian car of the year a multiple times....it is the best selling hatch in India in comparison to the Suzuki Swift
6:29 Imagine if Hyundai responds to this by releasing an i20N with the V6 from the Stinger
Not to jinx it, but I wish the same too!

Hyundai is offering 3 engine options along with 3 gearbox choices in the all new i20 . In INDIA 😅😅😅
But what is the benefit? You can't get the 1.0 turbo on the top end variant with a good old manual or even the imt. Only the dry clutch dct is available. Amd what about the diesel only coming with manual? Many people prefer automatic with diesel.

This is a nice car for what it is, oh and great review Mat!😸
The footage of overtaking capability on the motorway is totally staged, unless the model being driven is the 1.2L 84BHP base spec version (not available with mild hybrid) ! Having driven the 100PS 1.0L turbo 7 speed DCT, it has more than plenty enough oomph to zip past traffic in the outer lane, without holding up on-coming vehicles, especially vans (utter nonsense)! Furthermore, it is very composed overtaking on motorway bends with Lane keep assist. Why is Matt deliberately driving like an octogenarian at 9:22 ("Driving Miss Daisy" impersonation) ?

@4:46 wait, if you could fit that 4th one in, surely you could get a 5th one in on the left?
You'll be surprised to know that the i20 in India is much better than that of the UK i20. How you may ask?, Here are the reasons : 1. Better fit and finish (look at the review of Indian i20 and check out its interior) 2. Many engine options : • 1.2L petrol (4 cylinder) • 1.5L diesel (4 cylinder) • 1.0 L turbo (which produces 118bhp of power and 172 Nm of torque, the UK counterpart as per this video, only produces 100bhp of power) 3. Many transmission options : 1. Manual 2. IMT 3. DCT automatic 4. Many free colour options Seems like Hyundai is upset with Britishers calling them "Hayundai".
But they cheat us with n line version.
I think the Indian version also has sunroof, which is not available in Sweden at least.
