This is the new Hyundai Tucson!
Hyundai’s updated SUV is designed to go head-to-head with the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Karoq & SEAT Ateca. The question is, when there’s so much choice in the SUV market already, does the new Tucson offer enough to stand out from the crowd?
The biggest (and best!) changes to the design compared to the old model can be found inside the cabin, where an updated ‘swooping’ effect runs across the dash. There's also a new infotainment system and layout.
When it comes to performance, the only engine available is a 1.6-litre petrol. And while the range kicks off with the ability to produce 150hp, the range-topper is a hybrid edition, which combined with an electric motor to produce 230hp!
But let’s face it, you won’t be bothered about going too fast if you’re choosing a Tucson, will you? You want to ensure you’re getting enough interior space & quality for your money! So are you? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out…

    • Hwabyeong or Hwabyung (hangul: 화병, hanja: 火病) is a Korean somatization disorder, a mental illness which arises when people are unable to confront their anger as a result of conditions which they perceive to be unfair.[1][2] Hwabyung is known as a Korean culture-bound syndrome.[3] Hwabyung is a colloquial name, and it refers to the etiology of the disorder rather than its symptoms or apparent characteristics. In one survey, 4.1% of the general population in a rural area in Korea were reported as having hwabyung.[3] [4] Hwabyung is similar to Amuk.

  • You know, Matt, Hyundai are going to sell an insane number of these cars. And, as you pass one every few minutes everywhere you travel, you're going to be thinking about this review and the viewers' reaction to it. Matt's videos are usually informative, even if he does have his preferences and biases [who doesn't?] It felt on this occasion like he really didn't want to be there and was in a hurry to get the review done ['I need to get to the shops before they close in an hour"] --or angry he got a 150HP one to drive. The car was the victim of his bad mood and it felt to me like his mind had mostly already been made up about the car. It's odd that this review doesn't feature much driving or much detail. The car, in another version, is meant to have a remote parking feature. It would have been nice to find out if that's pointless or user-friendly. Does the new lighting design bring benefits or drawbacks? He said the visibility is fine but the turning circle is so-so: it would have been nice to see that in action in trying to parallel park. What about the side cameras? I hope we see Matt return to form soon.

  • Consider?! This car looks far better and interesting than a VW, and its reliable too! Plus you get good value for money. Sorry to say but one of the reasons I stopped following carwow was because Matt keeps making repeated comparisons of every Asian car to VW cars or high end cars. He keeps complaining about aspects that are irrelevant and just too nit-picky. But when it's a VW group car or high end car, his attitude is as energetic/alive as having a crush. He doesn't realise that Hyundai isn't targeting wealthy car reviewers like himself, they're targeting mass market clients, who are budgeting but want best value for money, plus lengthy warranty. What does VW have? Snobbish dealers? Quality that goes terrible after 5 years? Fancy options that catch fault within a year of ownership? Only 2-3 years warranty? High price tag on just about every single of their models. Rivals offer cheaper, better value and longer warranties. In Belgium the new Tucson is selling like wildfire, putting a tough time for VW. The overall public reception is positive, people love the Tucson. If this was some VW group car, Matt would've said "BUY". Maty keeps showing off his personal cars, I can respect that he feels great about himself, but if you're going to be reviewing cars, please leave your personal comparitive thoughts at home.

But a lots of people were complaining about issues (kangarooing) with their 1.5 TSI (on honestjohn site, also youtube) and I just did not want to take my chances (if the engine is off the other stuff in the car just doesn't matter as much). So I saw this review (I think it was the day it came out) and already had planned at trip to a Hyunday dealer. The review did not discourage me, I went there, saw the car (I actually really liked its design and interior (it's subjective of course)). I also drove it (manual version, style trim), I liked it (had a Kia Ceed before), the 150 HP did deliver. Very spacious for a family of four; also has 5 years warranty, which matters to me. If you are let out by someone while reversing the system will slam the brakes on. So you end up in a standoff with them flashing and the car refusing to move. It can be turned off by going into three sub menus but it isn't very practical while someone is waiting and resets every journey. Very frustrating.

The only thing that is special about Korea is that they have the precise word(Hwabyung) for the situation. Hwabyung is not a korean disorder it is just a korean word to describe 'anger from unfairness'. And yeah Koreans went through a lot of Hwabyung in history because of the unfairness they went through in the process of Korea being divided, the Japaneses colonization and more, so you might call it a korean culture bound syndrome but it definitely isn't just korea feeling Hwabyung through history. About the survey thing, it probably aren't just 4.1% of koreans that are in Hwabyung worldwide. I mean there are a lot of people angry about the unfairness in life caused by things like money. So what I wanna tell you is Hwabyung isnt just in Korea, it's just a common thing.

  • Well generally i am a huge fan of Mat and his reviews and i enjoy them a lot but i feel that this time i am really forced to push the dislike button. His overall attitude during the review has shown in the most profound way that he was completely biased against this car. He began by pointing out that this is a copycat of other "great" but very unreliable European cars but he forgot to say that modern automotive industry is full of examples of mimicking each other and definitely new Tucson as a new model may have been inspired by some other successful models, too. But is a far mile from being characterised a copycat or a patchwork with such a unique and aesthetic design that differentiates it from everyone else. Nervousness and dislike was obvious when he left the back door blind curtain fall instead of placing gently back in. "Flimsy" tie down hooks?? I have tested them and they are great, however you will not be able to tow another vehicle with them..! Automatic tailgate has at least 4 adjustable levels and he seems to be annoyed in a playful way by the stopping on that particular level...if you want you can adjust it even higher Mat! He is the only motor journalist whose review i have attended and claimed that the response during stepping on the acceleration pedal is slow...i have driven the hybrid one and its acceleration and responsiveness especially when being in EV mode is sooooo fast and the interaction with the 6speed automatic gearbox is exemplary!!! Biased attitude not ending here though: I have also noted...no mention on the EXCELLENT blind spot monitoring system activated with turn levers on the central console even though the specific model was fitted with it...no mention on the 360 degrees camera with great options and front and rear visibility even though in that trim it was present...no mention on the innovative back screen wiper that is hidden under the rear roof spoiler...no mention on Bluelink wireless car management capabilities...no mention on the FREAKING AWESOME remote park assist capability...no mention on the multilink rear suspension that you very successfully pointed out in the case of the new higher trim Qashqai but NOT in the case of new Tucson that is standard across the whole range and differentiates this "copycat" and "patchwork" from its rivals...and last but not least no mention on the ECS (Electronically Controlled Suspension) that you can get as an option for this car!!!!!...WTF Mat??? This is by far THE WORST REVIEW i have ever watched from you...with evidence! CONSIDER for that car...not even SHORTLIST?? Sounds like a completely unfair judgement...i am so disappointed.-
