C-17 Salmon Fly | Big Dry Fly For the Biggest Hatch! | Fly Tying Tutorial

In this fly tying tutorial Cheech ties the C17 Salmon Fly!
The Salmonfly hatch has to be my favorite hatch in the whole world, especially when the fish are keying on them and eating with reckless abandon. We wanted a fly that would still work after the fish start to get a little bit wise to most of the patterns on the river. This one has just enough realism to trick fish well into the hatch, and it's buoyant enough to float moderate sized droppers. Stay tuned for more patterns in this styling because you can tie all of the species of stones in this same format, just adjust size and color.

  • Leaving the nub at the back instead of tying in and folding felt like sacrilege initially until i realized huh, that taper is nice

  • Thank goodness Tim Flagler ties flies in under 5 minutes. 🤣 We do need some time to fish.

  • Hi Cheech! Great buggy pattern! The only change I would make is some small eyes and maybe some black yarn between the wings or some black marker on the inside of the wing yarn to separate them and give the illusion of two wings. Can I get the full recipe please? Thanks Cheech!

    • I couldn't agree more...she's big but graceful and nimble. Clumsy is a poor descriptor! Awesome fly though and any love for the Moose is appreciated.
