Fly Tying World Championship Winning Flies: Luboš Roza's Rockerka Dry Fly
The Rockerka is one of Luboš Roza's most effective flies, and he's won a lot of competitions using it. In this fly tying tutorial, he'll show us the fastest and easiest way to tie it. The entire body is made of CDC because this pattern is meant to float high and long. It's most effective when fishing for trout, and a special trick for fishing it in the summer is to give it some twitches and animation. The trout go crazy for it.

If you don't yet know him, Luboš Roza is one of the most talented fly anglers in the word. He's a two time Youth Fly Fishing World Champion, and holds the record for the youngest person ever to win an Adult European Championship at age 20. He is also an excellent fly tyer, and fly designer. He is a true master of his craft. We're proud to produce a range of his euro nymphs and dry flies, which are top performers around the world.

Thank you, I’m tying this one up. I have a couple cdc dry flies but nothing like this one. Excited to tie and try. Again, thanks a bunch!!!!
You are so welcome! Enjoy 😁
I like the little piece of foam with a slit that let you bunch the CDC up before you put the clip on it! Great idea!
It works like a charm!
Thx 4 showing. This is a great pattern. I will try it. 🙂
Excellent 👍
Beautiful fly. Very talented artist!!!!
looks great ill try it
Much different tying style than I am used to. Great content.
Wonderful fly! Will float so well. Can also see trailing it behind a larger streamer.
Great stuff, simple but effective. Many thanks.
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
You make it look easy, amazing talent.
thank you ! ! 👏👏👌 greetings from Switzerland
Nice , doesn’t get much easier. Thanks for sharing
You are welcome!
yes!
A pattern seems straightforward, and I can see this working very well as a general dry fly. In a way, it reminds me of the dry fly many of us grew up with called the BiVisible. I would bet this is much better with the CDC as it would impart movement into a static fly.
Yes, CDC is a wonderful material in that way!
Loved the fly and I’ll be tying some up soon. Perhaps wearing a white top for the demonstration wasn’t the best idea in the world, besides that it was great.
Alas, it was tied riverside and it’s what he was wearing for the day!
Nice 🔥🤙
Bonjour, Merci pour cette vidéo très intéressante 👌
Of course!
Perfect for the cotton candy hatch 😂
Fantastic fly tied some today fish them tomorrow on the river rye could you please tell me the name of that fly thanks Steve Pritchard
It is called the Rockerka!
Thank you. What hook is that?
Our Ultimate Dry Black Nickel Barbless Hook.
I guess it looks most similar to a Cornfed Caddis but lacks a body which is interesting, I'll try them, thanks
Enjoy!
Do you treat these flies with any floatant? Thanks.
"2 wraps to secure your material", so they say. In comes the world #1 with a "hold my beer" half-wrap!! I guess I need to up my game
looks good. what is the material for the tail. I can't really hear it in the video
It is angel hair!
Hi, Fulling Mill Fly Fishing, What CDC colors did he use? I will refer to it for purchase. Thanks
Hey there! He used natural, but you can tie it in dun, tan, olive, rusty-anything to match the bugs you're seeing on your stream! It's a great fly to get creative with.
what fly vice is that?
It is the LAW vise by Lawrence Waldren.
Doesn’t look like a LAW vice ? Please can you check ?
It´s from czech company called FF techmont and the vise is FFtechmont BACH Symphony I guess.
Yes, I confirmed with Luboš, it is from FF Techmont. The vise can be found here: www.fftechmont.cz/BACH-Fatty-c25_0_1.htm
Is Luboš putting extra floatant on this fly when fishing?
Often, yes!
What vice is this?
Those competition style hooks open up on 16”+ fish. Just look at how the wire moves as he ties it. I’m a guide in Patagonia and I’m sorry to say those hooks were a bad investment on my part. I don’t want to sound mean just some honest feedback. Maybe Fulling Mill can take it as a positive criticism and make them better in the future!!
The ultimate dry is a light wire hook, and as such requires light tippet. You can land lots of big fish on them using light tippet and a rod with good tippet protection. In cases where you need heavy tippet, we would advise a different hook model!
666 thumbs up... Thanks for the tie.
🪢👀📿🙏❤
Great fly for not much fished waters where fish didnt see much flies before. In rivers like Vah in Slovakia you have zero chance to be sucessful with it ... its just like Wooly bugger. It attracts fish. But it imitates nothing.
Respectfully, we disagree. We filmed with Luboš on this river, fishing this fly, and it was quite excellent.
@@FullingMillTV Yes at beggining of the season when fish eats everything. After first month its not possible.
This fishes well all season for Luboš (and us)!
I think we should make cat petting or lawn mowing into a competition...ridiculous
Then why the hell are you here buddy? Makes no sense subjecting yourself to something that you clearly do not enjoy.
