Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

WOW. this makes me beyond excited for a journey up there this weekend with the pup! Thanks for sharing, Dan!
Good luck on your trip! Cheers!
Thanks Dan great video! My eleven year old son and I are learning and don't catch many at this river, but it's nearby and we were there for the clear cool weather a couple weeks ago. I hooked a nice cutt and told my son, "Fish on!!"
That is awesome! Thanks for sharing that :))
What a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the sound of the birds and catching some nice fish really enjoyed it thanks for sharing dan 👌🤜🤛
My pleasure!
Thanks for sharing. Love catching those Westslope cutthroat.
Me too!
Great video once again Dan. If you are where I think you are I probably drove by you looking for a good spot of my own. Thank you for all the great videos and representing NW fly fishing so well!
Thank you! I appreciate that :))
Someday, try the coeur d'alene river! Awesome country, logging, and mining history. Wonderful people, fishing and scenery. Then, head up over thompson pass, check out the Montana side, too!
Yes, that area is awesome!
That Cutty really dogged you, Dan! What a strong fish! It wasn't surprising that when I got to see it, it had a big long tail for maximum leverage, sleek and strong, made you put in some work to get a visit with him!
Such a good day for sure...now tomorrow's video...that's a different story! Lol
I always forget to wait an extra second on the dry fly takes on those Westslopes
I nickname my Big Cutty’s “Walter”. That definitely looked like a Walter! And on my old home river. Such a great stretch
Love it!!
Idaho has the best rivers 🎣 thanks for the great video!
Thanks!
Teda pane opět parádní video, nádherná řeka, překrásné ryby.👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗👏👏👏 Nice work and Fish on,jestli to teda píšu dobře.🤠🤠🤠

@@FlyFishDan I'm sorry sir, that i write in my language(I'm from the Czech Republic)my english Is terriable. A translator next time so that we understand each other better.👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗 Fish on 😍😍😍🤠🤠🤠👏👏👏
FFD, first and foremost, thank you for not telling your audience where in our lovely state you're killin' it fishing for those beauties. Second, why light tippet with a streamer? As I've shared with you before, I'm trying streamers more and I tie a 3 - 5' piece of #10 mono or fluorocarbon onto a sink tip with my 6wt; I'll downshift to #8 if the water is slower or clearer. My assumption is that if a fish is aggressive enough to eat a big fly that they're not going to be leader shy - but maybe I"m missing fish with my logic? Anyway, another fun video to start my day. Taking a friend out mid-day today to a nearby hole just to wet a line for an hour or so. ☮
Thanks Al! I found on this day, the fish were being a bit leader shy...they weren't attacking the streamer like normal, but a slow eat. I had to leader down to get them to bite (and it worked!). I'm always changing things up which seems to work well for me. Cheers!
I agree. Some of my favorite places have been absolutely ruined because of social media. Some people just don't get it...
Fisherman usually are some of the nicest and helpful community.. but some people around here acting like it’s their livelihood. I don’t get this mentality but to each their own.
great video quality
The Boise is a really nice river and runs for miles.
I'm going to Idaho next summer and will try all the waters I can.
You are going to have a great trip!
I noticed a nice rod you are useing well done
Thanks 👍
I would love to go to that little spot just to swim in that beautiful water
Pretty amazing for sure
Did you bring your camper over there? That looks like awesome fishing water!
Yes I did! Loved having the cozy camper with us on this trip :))
Great video! What is that reel that you can slap retrieve? I love doing that but most reels dont do it well. My favorites are the older Ross Animas that was discontinued.
Thank you! That's my old school Orvis Battenkill large arbor fly reel.
Man I wish I could catch any fish right now. I have been skunked 8 times in a row, but u think that's because I haven't been able to really go to any half decent waters. Quick tip, if you ever want to fish the Snohomish river when the pinks aren't running... don't. I can't wait to try fishing some of those panhandle rivers in Idaho nextime I'm up there, lots of cuttys I hear.
I've had runs like that myself in the past - you'll get into something soon I bet! Thanks for the tip!
@@FlyFishDan Yeah I hope I can get something. I might be going up to Yellowstone area next summer, so I at least have that to look forward to. And no problem on the tip 😂
I feel your pain. I had a terrible weekend . I just broke my new 5wt fly rod. I just bought it from Jackson fly company. Fortunately they are fixing it as we speak. Had a monster brown but it broke my line. I was using my other pole. But, it’s nice to get out and enjoy the day.
That’s a great tip!
Did you get yourself another Hellbender net? If so, what size did you get and/or recommend? I primarily wade fish. Same area as you so the same size fish as well. I’m really tempted to splurge on a nice net for my next fly fishing purchase 🤔
I did yes! I have the Upstream with short handle flame burst. The perfect size net for almost all trout.
Beautiful water and fish D! Fun to watch. I bet it was even more fun to be doing the fishing! 😁
Most definitely!
New follower. What reel are you using? I totally dig how you just hit it to reel in your slack!
Thanks Ethan - welcome to my channel. That is my OG Orvis Battenkill large arbor reel. Love that thing!
Do you have any recommendations of a trout stream that you can wade in because we are looking to go up to Idaho and Wyoming fly fishing for are next trip
Send me a PM on my email - Cheers!
10-4
How do you tell a good fish from a bad fish? Nice video!
They are all good fish in my book :)) Thank you!
Hello, nice water, ? I fish in different states and I have to get fishing Permits to fishing for trout, and some states have to buy trout stamps.. I have Tn., N.C., N.J. Pa. Va., I have year around permits in some states.. $$$$ it adds up but I don't care I've been trout fishing since I've been a kid, I also belong to trout unlimted.. life member
Thanks for taking the time to watch Dale, I appreciate it!
What part of Idaho is this? without naming river.
Hello Robert - I fish primarily in the northern Idaho panhandle.
So what roadside river in Idaho were you guys fishing?
If you’re looking for another spot, my most recent video might help ya! 🎣
😂
Know the area well.. Thank you for not mentioning the water you are fishing. I would really hate to see KZhead group invade the area.
That's why it will be forever unnamed - the only people that will recognize the area are the people that have been there before. Cheers!
I tend to go way up where the name changes, and further. Family history. Nice to get back there after 50+ years now and again.
Think you're willing to send an email to an Idahoan that does exclusively catch and release? I'm usually a sturgeon fisherman, or ponds. But I love these kinds of waters, and just don't have knowledge right now. Again, will do pure catch and release
What river is this on?? I live in the northwest
Join the FFD club - it comes with some perks. Cheers and FISH-ON!
What river is this?
What river is this
Is this Mores Creek?
17?? C’mon man.
OMG I didn't see you there with your tape measure! Lol
Yeah nice video but I also noticed you didn't tell anyone where you were at fishing
Thank you! I rarely name the fisheries - it's more about inspiring others to discover new places and get out there and fish. Cheers!
😂
😭😪😓
Don't be sad...no cry
