E34 design is just legendary, especially with the M5 rims.
Which ones do you mean? The Turbines (style 20) that came on the 3.6L, the updated Throwingstars (style 21) that came on the 3.8L or the M-Parallels (style 37), like this one has, that came on the last models in 1995. All are cool imo, Turbines are figuratively and literally the coolest, Throwingstars are probably the most iconic M5 wheels for e34 and M-parallels are imo the best looking.

@@gerjanbaan6418 The Turbines and 5 spoke throwing stars or whatever you call them, have grown on me a lot over the years though. Definitely took many years but I’m old now and I really like how they look on the car hahah.
Listening to this, and comparing it to the M2 Comp I had last year... the old straight sixes just sound so good. Even the basic two-litre straight six from this era was a total peach.

N55 lci bmw m2 sounds much better than the s55 m2 comp tho m8

I'm biased but I find e34 to be the best looking car from this era and among the best period. They're just special.

More then 20 years ago I had a co-drive in an E34 on the Ring, it was then the Ringtaxi... awesome experience, at the time the movie Ronin was also out so imagine our craziness then..... As a personal note, this E34 is the best 5 series ever made, the estates handled even better....

I remember my first time, I was young, gas pump attendant. Was early in my overnight shift, bars were closing etc. Dingding a customer. There it was, black with those wheels polished, it was amazing, still is, 25+ years on.

My e34 m5 is the same Jan '90 built sister car to this one. I wonder if the serials are close. I've owned it since 2008 and it's going strong at 225000 miles. The only problem is the A/C needs sorting every 8 years. Maybe I'll just move somewhere I don't need it as much as Houston Texas lol

Oh god yes!!!! EDIT having now finished it...fully agree with your sentiment at the end. Cars are ''better'' now in terms of speed, insane power, braking, safety and whatnot...but IMO just about all cars (even the latest Ferrari's), they miss the key ingredient: Emotion. And with the occasional highlight here and there (Speciale, 991 RS porsches), 90s until mid 2000s was the peak, in my opinion.

In North America we didn’t get the 3.8l M5 update. Instead they put the 4.0 into an M5 chassis. Chassis code HE53

Maybe it was 1995 or so. In my country, the second hand car market was blooming. So, i went to see a guy selling a BMW he imported from Belgium. He told me the engine is a 3.6L . He didn't know that he was trying to sell an E34 M5. I didn't know either, i realised that years after.. 😅

The owner did nothing wrong as the car is amazing but a tiny bit louder exhaust and possible intake with some basketweaves would make this car perfect.
