Can Detailing Save This 400,000 KM E34 M5?
Can we knock a few hundred thousand kilometres off the exterior of this BMW E34 M5 with Detailing? Let's find out!

In this video I dedicated about 40 hours to see how much improvement I could make on my friends at Vulcan Motor Works E34 M5. The paint had been under a car cover that did some serious damage over the years. Initially I was worried that it may have worn the clear coat down too much to get that much correction out of it. But with quality products and a mild understanding of automotive substrate I was able to make a pretty significant difference across the car. From a wash, paint correction, trim painting and some touch up paint, a lot of different bases were covered. I hope you guys enjoy the documentation. Much love.

Jesus. That BMW's previous wash process must of included a gravel filled wash mitt along with a drying towel backed by a brick.
Haha I believe it was the result of a car cover and wind BUT yeah might as well have been bricks 😭
You dropped this 👑, Mike
Haha appreciate you bro☺️🤝
Well done dude. You were the person that the car needed.
Maybe god first. But a close second yes I would agree. Haha thanks man
Dude amazing! You really went above and beyond on this one! It was really neglected, but it’s come such a long way mechanically and now cosmetically thanks to your help. Couldn’t be happier with the results 🙏🙌
Thanks guys! Hyped for you to check it out irl🤝
i was starting to miss the videos... was rewatching the LX470 detailing to pass time then this uploaded
Haha yeah this one took a little to finish up the editing. Super super long
You brought that old dog back to life, amazing result. Maybe you can talk to the owner to visit the car more often. Overall great work and thanks for taking us along
Thank you Kai! I had a lot of fun doing this and making the video. Glad you enjoyed 🤝🤝
I don't even have to start watching before smashing the like button!
Haha thank you bro!🫶
Some of the most dramatic before and after pictures on your channel. Chasing perfection can produce amazing results. The refresh of the trims with trim paint brought back the classic beauty of the e34. Great work!
Thank you so much man! I really appreciate you watching 😊
Again it's me man I just watched the video detailed it took few days because I was too busy I think the owner should never repaint the car it's looking extraordinary show car quality
Thank you bro! It would just be to help the rust out and what not. But who knows!
Ith think the rusted areas might need a paint job like underbody and some areas like that but the exterior don't need any not even any touch up because you did everything again appreciating your work buddy I know I'm saying this too much times in the same video still I think it's the most hazed car in our channel right it look like the car got a repain if it is shown to a person who don't know a lot about detailing surely his thought might be nice repaint job right again superb work bro
Hello from Australia 🙃 Well I wouldn't have believed paint that bad would come up so good 😎
Thank you Bruv! Glad you think so 👍😎
A brilliant video, Mike👍 The finished results are amazing! That is a mega transformation!👍😎 All the best, John.
Thank you very much John! I had a lot of fun with this one 😊
What a great watch! Turned out amazing to say the least. The work and effort on the car + shooting and editing the video is 🤯 Thank you for this long format goodness!
Thank you so much bro! Hope you are doing well 🤝🤝
Seeing cars in this state always makes me think about that period of time where iconic cars like this one, the e28 m5, and even the e30 m3 weren't held in as high regard as they are today. They could be bought for very little and as such were neglected. I wonder what modern day cars, if any, will see the same periods of neglect followed by a rise to the top like these have.
I often think about this too my friend! I believe the access to information in this internet age may have ruined that cycle from happening again. Unfortunately
Also i have my doubts that a lot of modern cars will be able to reach the same milages as the cars from the 80´s/90´s. Certainly if we´re talking about 400k km! 😅 All these downsized engines have to endure way too much stress with todays hp figures and i don´t even wanna think about how people treat turbocharged engines. Many of them probably weren´t exactly properly warmed and especially cooled down during their drives.
Man just casually says "40 to 45 hours of work" like it only took one afternoon. Absolutely knocked this one out of the park.
Haha trying my best bro. I appreciate you watching!
Oh man, your edits are just awesome! Congrats man, this is just astonishing!
Thanks Raphael! Hope you’re having a great week🤝
Outstanding! You brought this one back beautifully!! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much man! Hope you had a great weekend!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!! Mad respect!! Fantastic content. Your film skills are on point as are you detailing skills. Keep em coming!!
Great to see your still having fun!!! Turned out phenomenal bro!!!!! Great work!
Thank you Smurf man! I hope you have been doing awesome!
Beautiful. Great work Mike!
Thank you very much bro!
That paint is HAMMERED! 😁
So so so bad haha.
Stunning transformation, raised the value a ton, 35 minutes long and enjoyed every second 👍
Thank you so much for watching it through! I appreciate it
Grassroots detail loving right here!!!! 🤙🏼 love from the states
Thank you brotha! Much love!
With you detailing anything can be saved. Nice work!!!
Haha improved, maybe. Saved? They’re all doomed 😭
Sensational as always
Appreciate you David!
Another absolute BANGER, the detail work in incredible. Great work!
Thank you so much bro!🤝🤝
Fantastic as always. I cant really give enough Credit to your work, its magic. How about the interiour?
Thank you very much my friend! Honestly interiors really are not very enjoyable to film so I stay away from them mostly
@@ChromaticGarage thats ok, i just wonder if it was in same "great" condition as the exteriour before you start? Lovely job anyway.
This is another awesome video. Love your work! 👌
Thank you very much bro!
I love your channel for its integrity. Vulcan are just great with this M5. Much respect to both
Thank you bro! Trying my best to only do what I love, nothing catered to weird social media standards haha
I love doing cars like this. I don’t have to stress out about getting every single scratch out. I can just get the swirls out and make it shiny again. I did a 96’ ford truck and the main goal, shine! And that was by far the best detail experience that I had in awhile 😂. Looks fantastic and I always say it, great job! 👍🏻
Haha yeah it typically is more enjoyable. More art project less cynical
Mike you saved my day...a new Chromatic Garage Video.....and on top such an amazing car. Great Job, man, great job...Greets from Bavaria, Alex.
Haha very glad to save you day! Thank you very much Alex. I hope you week is well!
I just bought a black e34 wagon from a family friend. Detailing it this weekend. Watching this video for inspiration. Thanks for sharing!!
What a car. I need an E34! What a video! I needed my Chromie fix! Thank you for this :)
They really are a great car. Both to drive and look at. Thanks bro 😊
The vibes, the aesthetic, the work and effort put into these videos is why this will always be my favorite detailing channel. Car looks great another dope video!
I really really appreciate that man! Hope all is going great with you!
Looks absolutely stunning. From what it was to what it is now, it has come a long way.
Thank you! I had a lot of fun with this one
Pretty good improvement man. Music and footage is at it best as always. The car is an icon and still a dream of mine. Thank you for this.
And thank you for watching John! I appreciate it 🤝
Didn't expect it to come up that good, what a transformation! Tunes were on point too, head was nodding the whole way through.
Love to hear that bro! Thank you for checking it out 🫶
Amazing work.Great.Enjoy your videos.Keep going👌👌👌
Thank you very much bro!
Gorgeous car, you brought the looks back to life!!
Thank you man! Was a lot of fun 😄
That M5 looks AMAZING. Great job it’s at least 95% what a looker.
I agree man! Good car. Thanks for watching!
Bro hats off for the editing, music and general cohesiveness of this vid. The details and the workmanship are top notch too. This was a great way to spend 40 mins 💪💪
Glad you liked it bro! Thanks for staying till the end 🫶🫶
Very sad to see how an M5 can get that neglected, great to see that it‘s getting now the attention it deserves. Great job !
I think it’s best to look at it not as neglected but well used! This would be sad if it was low mileage but this thing was DRIVEN haha. Thank you bro!
Amazing transformation, so satisfying.
Thanks for watching friend!
Hot damn. That was unbelievably satisfying, insane job!
Glad you like it Stephen! Thank you!
you simply make by far the best videos in this area💪🏻 keep it up👍🏻
Thank you brotha! Much love 🤝
Great job as always, so great to watch revival of such an awesome T.Rex
Wow, that car looked like it had been dragged through a hedge backwards before you got a hold of it! Fantastic transformation!
Haha it sure did. Thank you for watching bro!
Nice work 👍 This car is proof that back in those days they used to paint cars the correct way, the responsible way. Such a beautiful car, in a classic kind of way. The best feeling and the most rewarding about polishing cars is when you remove the masking tape at the end.
Thank you bro! This car was painted like 3 additional times though haha. Most definitely nothing oem
Absolut great result! The car looks nice and fresh!!
Thanks Hansjörg! Happy to give it the life it deserved
What a stunning car.. still! As always, great work man. Awesome video 🫡
Thank you brotha! Much love
Respect what you're doing. You have taught me a lot despite it being a tideous process for detailing. It is most definitely worth it.
Thank you very much bro! I’m glad there are takeaways from these videos 🤝
Amazing transformation! Anyone would be in awe of these results.
Thank you bro!
Chasing perfection... well done as always
Thank you brother!
We back for another banger video by Chromatic Garage , Bro you never disappoint . Much appreciated
I’m glad you always like them Abel! Much love bro!
Seeing this was such an inspiration to get my e34 back to its glory! 😢. So much work to do, but she's worth it.
Any time spent having fun is absolutely worth it bro!
What a stunning result!
Thank you friend!!
Super Arbeit am e34 und ein tolles Video 👏 Weiter so und Danke aus dem Black Forest😉
Thank you very much for watching bro!
Definitely look into AMMO NYC's Frame Pro Trim Coat for the black plastics! Rejuvenates them so well w/o having to paint. Killer job on this M5 man!
That was fun. Nicely done ✅
Thank you man!
Awesome car and awesome job!
Excellent work, killer result as always. I'm fond of examples like this that look good from 10 feet but can be really used with little remorse. Cheers!
Thanks man! Very much agreed, ready to be driven however someone wants without hesitation
Wsg my g... been a min... I see you still killing it!! 💯👟
Appreciate that bro! Hope you have been doing good down there 🤝🤝
@@ChromaticGarage all good..just about to start detailing again...I miss it!
Sick production and editing
Thank you dude!
Wow this M5 looks awesome 🎉😊
Thank you very much bro!
Great job on a classic car, that I hope they continue to drive daily!
fantastic result
Thank you Eric!
Imo opinion and I’ve detailed cars for 45 years plus you’ve achieved great results on a well used car take pride in the fact another classic has been saved 👍🏻😉🇬🇧👏👏
Admiro ques faz vídeos no seu próprio tempo, e não cede a pressão da plataforma.
I appreciate that man! Here because I love this stuff not because of likes ☺️
This came out so good!! I need to go detail my black sapphire metallic bmw too. Right now it just looks like flat black 😅😅.
10/10 as always sir !
Thank you bro!☺️
Boppin' to these tunes while looking at a beautiful E34 get the treatment. What's not to love.
Haha that’s what I like to hear friend! Thank you
Incredible ! Nothing more to say.. in really like to refinish my plastics on my MKiii GTI, too
From what it was to what you did to it that looks amazing
Thanks David! Appreciate you!
Im sad that the community getting bigger but happy that the quality is getting better 👌(fan from the R129 Mercedes)
Thank you friend! I appreciate you sticking around 😊
looks great!
Much love 😊😊
what was the stuff you sprayed on before using the clay?
Optimum No Rinse!
@@ChromaticGarage Thank you sir!
Looking forward to every single video, boss
Glad you like them brotha!!
Holy sh*t dude! Wonderful work.
Stunning
Thanks brotha!
E34 is in my top 10 most beautiful cars ever made. Maybe top 5.
I agree man! Really capturing the era of BMW with arguably the best drivetrain
U r perfect, keep going dude❤
Thank you brotha!
This channel is too underrated
Haha thank you man! I do wish the channel was bigger. But only really to help fund bigger projects 😊
Came across your video and def. wasn't disappointed! VERY impressive work and some of the music gave me gran Turismo menu vibes haha. Night and day difference esp. on that black paint. liked and subscribed! If I may ask, what did you polish the glass with? Also why didn't you use the same trim spray paint on the moldings as you did on the front grille bits?
Thank you Lucas! I really appreciate that. I used a yellow foam pad on a rotary polisher for the glass, same compound. I would have used SEM on the pillars as well but I ran out 😭. The product I used is my second favourite
@@ChromaticGarage ahh I see. Thank you for the reply and answer. The car looks absolutely sick, considering the age and mileage it has. Love the content.
@@ChromaticGarage also. If it's ok to ask, what brand are those standing work lights u use? They look very premium.
Nice work sir! Boy, what a turd that was, but you definitely sparked some life back into it. It was amazing to see the improvement in just one pass!
Thanks Michael! Haha agreed, every car has more life in it, you just have to really dig for it sometimes
I'm not even kidding when I say that M5 in the "before" state has nicer paint than almost every E34 I've encountered here in Arizona, haha. Most E34's here (mine included) have at least 50% of their clear coat straight up gone.
Haha that’s crazy man. Would not want to be trying to find a car under that much sun😭
Well damn... that was a hella turnaround 🤯🤯🤯
Thank you Matt! Much love 🤝
Brought back from the DEAD 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Yessir!! Appreciate you bro!
I’ve heard people argue that these are better than e30s. I’ve seen em but never rode in one or know anything abt them including maintenance or durability ig. For this one to have 400k they seem pretty good ngl but if anyone has their opinion on which is better, an m5 or just a regular e30 can they please share and lmk why. I personally just like the looks of an e30.
Whatever you like more is the only thing that is more important. Your budget will dictate the quality of car. Pretty much nothing else matters. Opinions are random car dudes on the internet will not help you at all haha
E30 reminds me of lada. The only good looking e30 is the m3. I still dont understand the hype. Its the low budget bmw of the 80s.
@@Exekutioncro idk man I personally love the look of all e30s. I owned an e30 vert n it was nice I just liked my Miata I had before it more.
about the clear coat peeling off on the hood, how would you deal with that? is the only solution repainting or can something else be done to repair that kind of damage? btw, new subscriber, and I absolutely love the style of video you put out. keep going!
Love the channel and want so show some love and order a hoodie but I appreciate costs to the uk are probably high but let me know if I can help with courier costs , great channel 👌🏼
Thank you so much Matt! Yeah it really is a shame there are not any cheaper options available. But I just appreciate you enjoying the videos 🤝🫶
Considering what you started with...home run! Was it too cold for your four legged helper? Great video.
Thanks man! We try to not have her around when polishers are being run. A little loud for little ears haha
Great transformation! What is your preferred machine speed setting for compounding and polishing?
Thank you very much! It was 5 on this particular car because of of how it was repainted but it’s usually 6. Use all the powa baby
Awesome video, but the Vulcan Motor Works link is not linking for me 😞
Should work now ☺️
Did you put on the iron fallout remover then put snowfoam over the top and just rinse off? New to this detailing trying to get my head around it
I do! I let it dwell for about 10 minutes and then foam over it. With the intention that my mitt may be massaging it in. And even if it doesn’t. I’m not wasting water either way haha
Just out of curiosity, why did you opt to do an iron removal stage before doing a contact wash? 🤔 Would there not be a lot of contamination under all the dirt removed during a contact wash?
This is why a hire an internet service for! Great video as always
Hahaha yes yes. Thank you brother!
u did great job, btw what shoes are u wearing bro?
Thank you bro! Hoka Mafate Speed 2!
😮
🤝🤝🤝😄

My man!🤝
Quel beau job , bravo le résultat est vraiment top ... Dommage tu es trop loin .... @+Chrys
Finish it off by putting the orange indicators back in on the front 💥💥💥
That would be much nicer Forsure! Love amber
