Can we knock a few hundred thousand kilometres off the exterior of this BMW E34 M5 with Detailing? Let's find out!

In this video I dedicated about 40 hours to see how much improvement I could make on my friends at Vulcan Motor Works E34 M5. The paint had been under a car cover that did some serious damage over the years. Initially I was worried that it may have worn the clear coat down too much to get that much correction out of it. But with quality products and a mild understanding of automotive substrate I was able to make a pretty significant difference across the car. From a wash, paint correction, trim painting and some touch up paint, a lot of different bases were covered. I hope you guys enjoy the documentation. Much love.

  • Jesus. That BMW's previous wash process must of included a gravel filled wash mitt along with a drying towel backed by a brick.

    • Ith think the rusted areas might need a paint job like underbody and some areas like that but the exterior don't need any not even any touch up because you did everything again appreciating your work buddy I know I'm saying this too much times in the same video still I think it's the most hazed car in our channel right it look like the car got a repain if it is shown to a person who don't know a lot about detailing surely his thought might be nice repaint job right again superb work bro

  • Seeing cars in this state always makes me think about that period of time where iconic cars like this one, the e28 m5, and even the e30 m3 weren't held in as high regard as they are today. They could be bought for very little and as such were neglected. I wonder what modern day cars, if any, will see the same periods of neglect followed by a rise to the top like these have.

    @beatingyou01@beatingyou01Ай бұрын
    • I often think about this too my friend! I believe the access to information in this internet age may have ruined that cycle from happening again. Unfortunately

      @ChromaticGarage@ChromaticGarageАй бұрын
    • Also i have my doubts that a lot of modern cars will be able to reach the same milages as the cars from the 80´s/90´s. Certainly if we´re talking about 400k km! 😅 All these downsized engines have to endure way too much stress with todays hp figures and i don´t even wanna think about how people treat turbocharged engines. Many of them probably weren´t exactly properly warmed and especially cooled down during their drives.

  • Came across your video and def. wasn't disappointed! VERY impressive work and some of the music gave me gran Turismo menu vibes haha. Night and day difference esp. on that black paint. liked and subscribed! If I may ask, what did you polish the glass with? Also why didn't you use the same trim spray paint on the moldings as you did on the front grille bits?

    • Thank you Lucas! I really appreciate that. I used a yellow foam pad on a rotary polisher for the glass, same compound. I would have used SEM on the pillars as well but I ran out 😭. The product I used is my second favourite

  • I'm not even kidding when I say that M5 in the "before" state has nicer paint than almost every E34 I've encountered here in Arizona, haha. Most E34's here (mine included) have at least 50% of their clear coat straight up gone.

  • I’ve heard people argue that these are better than e30s. I’ve seen em but never rode in one or know anything abt them including maintenance or durability ig. For this one to have 400k they seem pretty good ngl but if anyone has their opinion on which is better, an m5 or just a regular e30 can they please share and lmk why. I personally just like the looks of an e30.

    • E30 reminds me of lada. The only good looking e30 is the m3. I still dont understand the hype. Its the low budget bmw of the 80s.

    • @@Exekutioncro idk man I personally love the look of all e30s. I owned an e30 vert n it was nice I just liked my Miata I had before it more.

  • about the clear coat peeling off on the hood, how would you deal with that? is the only solution repainting or can something else be done to repair that kind of damage? btw, new subscriber, and I absolutely love the style of video you put out. keep going!

    @Coops95@Coops95Ай бұрын
    • I do! I let it dwell for about 10 minutes and then foam over it. With the intention that my mitt may be massaging it in. And even if it doesn’t. I’m not wasting water either way haha

  • Just out of curiosity, why did you opt to do an iron removal stage before doing a contact wash? 🤔 Would there not be a lot of contamination under all the dirt removed during a contact wash?
