GOING FOR BROKE: Restoring A BMW & Giving It Away
Thanks for checking out my video. My name is Alec and welcome to Day Off DIY! Ive been working for months on this big reveal, and I can't wait to share it with ya.
What do we get into? You'll have to watch and see. During the video I will tell you exactly how you can win this beautiful BMW that I fixed up because...
In this video I buy a beat up BMW and restore it on a budget, just to give it to a viewer for free!
Yes, actually free, 0 dollars, zero purchase required, unlike other giveaways now a days.
I take a neglected and beat up 2006 BMW 325i with 126k miles, and fully restore it.
We restore the headlights, gut and detail the interior, extract the carpet and scrub all the plastics and leathers, we fix every oil leak including the oil filter housing, the oil pan gasket, we replace the engine mounts, control arms, the belt, tensioner, and idler pulley. We repaint the hood and polish all of the paint, with clay bar and wax. I flush every single fluid, we do a transmission service, a power steering flush with new reservoir, a brake fluid flush, an oil service with an engine flush, a drain and fill on the cooling system, and a drain and fill on the rear differential! I fixed everything I could find on this N52, and she is running amazing. I can't wait to drive her cross country and give her to the lucky winner. I hope you enjoy this build! :)

1.5 hr of Alec and Bmw content plus a chance to win that E-90! $2,400 is a deal . Awesome thanks for your efforts
Appreciate you Chad! You’ve been an epic supporter since the beginning, really appreciate it. How’s the smoke machine treating you?!
I don't usually comment on a videos. But as a BMW owner myself I know what it takes to repair these cars. The amount of work you've done on this car far exceeds what the car needed to run smoothly. All of that for someone else just to see him/her smile. More people like you. Greetings from Czech rep. (central Europe)
Czech Republic! Awesome! Really appreciate the comment, means a lot from a viewer that doesn’t often comment. Can’t do it without you guys
Hey neighbor, Poland here 🙏👍
love it!
@@DayOffDIY Hi! I´m BMW owner from Czech Republic too and I can agree that work on these cars are hard sometimes :D Perfect work man, continue doing this content. Have a nice day.
Doing lights twice, pressure washing underpan, degreasing motor from the mess it started as.. Pretty cool huh? Like a person would repair their own vehicle. I would have removed that new belt for degreasing motor.
You’re the reason I started working on my e46, not sure what I’m doing but watching you’re videos/tutorials give me a little more confidence I hope to restore my E46 as much as I can
That’s amazing! glad I can be of some help. Keep at it, the skills you will learn will be so valuable!
Was looking for this comment for real!
Respect 👏👏👏
I miss my e46 so much I loved that car good luck with it, there are a few things you can do to make it look a bit modern but focus on all the important stuff and take at look at the forms they can help you a lot
Can we thank this man for pursuing his passion and serving others at the same time. Great content, real person without any acting. Looking forward to more content.
I try my best to keep it real with you guys :) Really appreciate the support
@DayOffDIY Honestly, we see and feel that effort. Hope you get that vehicle lift sponsor soon too!!
These cars with the N52 engines are true gems. Can’t beat the craftsmanship and reliability. Not a fan when they went to 4 cylinder turbo.
you know what's up Ryan! the N20 is garbage in my opinion. Id take a n51/n52 over the n20 or the n55 all day long!
The engine itself is quite well developed and trouble free. However you will more than likely be fixing the following, electric water pump and thermo at 60K, starter failure common around 80k, belt tensioner sometimes, Oil filter housing gasket (shown leaking in this vid) around 80k, oil pan gasket (not easy), and the valve cover gasket with eccentric shaft sensor seal around 80k ish but can be done in your garage if you are ok and have the patience.
your at 17k subs now bro, leaving that firefighter job was one of your best decision. this is going to take off my man, i found out looking up a diy for my e46 and i subbed instantly after seeing how relatable and genuine you are in your videos. I’m going to guess $4.13 of change pulled out of that car total lol. i would love an oil leak free car my man. keep grinding
Yessir! Maybe we can break 100k soon! Appreciate the support, grateful to be on this journey, hopefully it all works out. Can’t do it without you guys!
I was just given a 2002 530i and your videos are so much appreciated. Nothing is out of reach when you have videos like yours.
Appreciate that! Good luck on the build !!!
You’re really good at bringing these cars back to life, my man! Glad to see your channel growing, keep up the good work!
Thanks Michael! Hopefully this is just the beginning!
Alec I'm really happy to see all the positive feedback your getting, you definitely deserve it.
Thanks Johnny! Youre the man. Been so much good feedback i can barely keep track. I just emailed ya! looking forward to talking soon!
that really was a steal! you an honest guy for not offering lower. I watched the whole video and it motivates me to rebuild my e46 that’s rotting away
Sell it to Alec!
Rebuild it! Keep the e46s alive! Thanks for the comment joel
Do it and record it
The one who plants trees, knowing that they will never sit in their shade, started to understand the meaning of life. Very nice way of thinking happy for you the channel start growing up keep doing the good work man !
Literally a full N51/52 Maintenance guide in one video. Fire.
glad you appreciate it! thats what i was going for
Video was worth the wait! So glad to hear you’ve found a way to further turn the channel into your passion! Keep up the great work, man!
Yo! I was dying to share details with you all but couldn’t spill the beans. Hopefully it works out! Glad you enjoyed 🙃
Amazing job! So satisfying watching everything done start to end. Keep up the good work! I love these years of BMWs and think youtube needs more of this content.
Hey thanks Cameron! Appreciate the support, let’s keep it rollin!!!

0:42 My Golden Bears 🐻! Thank you so much Alec!! I still have to watch the video later. It’s starting off incredibly interesting, especially the giveaway!
Golden bears just for you Mitchell!
@@DayOffDIY I really appreciated your personalization of this amazing video, Alec!
Dude you’re awesome! I love BMWs so this is one of my favorite channels but I think what really makes this channel is your genuine love and passion to serve others. You’re one in a million brother and the world is a better place with you in it. I truly mean that.
That means a lot, thanks for saying that. I’m just trying to spread some good attitude in hopes that we can all make some change in this world. Thank you for the kind words, made my day!
i stumbled upon this video and im in love with what your doing, keep it up man
Great video. It's nice to see how much you appreciate older BMWs! Someone is getting one sweet ride!
awesome video! love how stock you keep the car while fixing everything that’s broken
I’m a bit of a stock enthusiast! Modifying these cars can sometimes do more harm than good
I gotta say, this is the content that brings me to KZhead. Really well done man, the car is looking great. As a DIY’er KZheadr myself, you’re an inspiration!
Really appreciate it hunter!!! I’ll be sure to check out your channel and give it some support
Such a great project! From the start to the end! Loved it!
Love the channel, thank you very much for the transmission video it helped a ton for when I took the transmission off of my e46
You have dialed up my perfect KZhead video in terms of length and style. Thank you! I look forward to this and hope to see more in the future if this works out best for you
Appreciate it! I’m a big fan of the longer videos that I can sink into too. Glad I was able to hit the mark for ya
@@DayOffDIY not saying I didn't enjoy your previous videos bc they were 💜 too! I'm wondering if I could afford a side project like this one. I need to learn more about how to identify the n52 engine and such. Slowly do the work to repair it and have a fun car.
Well, it’s raining like hell down here in so cal so I sat and watched the entire video in one sitting! You turned a pretty decent car into a total gem! Great work and I hope your new venture is a HUGE success. You deserve it. Love you, pops.
Thanks pops, couldn’t have done it without your morales and work ethic being passed to me. This year we will do a Pops video special, you and me, when you come by on your way to Bend :)

I asked for a N52 video and I actually got it!! So glad to see you work on some “newer” cars as well. I myself am a proud owner of an E91 325i also pre lci. Those things last forever with the N52! Sadly I cant take part of the giveaway since I live in germany😂 but still glad to see you give back to the community you built! Onto great things🔥
Thanks man, means a lot! Gotta love the N52s, I’ve been dying to get one on the channel, glad we finally made it happen

Outstanding job, Alec. Even though I'm in the UK and exempt from the draw, you still deserve a follow. It's folk like you, who care more for your subscribers, that deserve the support of millions of followers, this is what makes KZhead worthwhile. I can't wait to watch the winner's video, it will be awesome.
I can't wait either, also thank you for the kind words! it means a lot! Hopefully we can keep this thing going! 2024 should be a good year :)
Amazing video, this is my dream car I’m glad you fixed this car up. Your passion for car fixing is inspiring. Good luck in all future endeavors.
Truly underrated content creator. Keep it up and you will definitely blow up. The way you explain the design and purpose while listing common failures and repairs is awesome. Very knowledgeable and enjoyable content at the same time, that is awesome!
Awesome!!! I just found a black one on marketplace, had an minor hit on the rear end. Low miles. Might grab it this week.
Do it! That would be epic! They’re not too hard to work on
I have a 2004 330xi E46 ... And your videos are the reason why I do all my own work on my E46
that's awesome! I love hearing that. keep that e46 running strong! some of the last good bmws on the road
Amazing work ! You brought the car back to life looks brand new ! Congratulations.
What goes around comes around. Well done brother! God bless
Bro is a goat hope u don’t stop ur passion cannot go unnoticed. Since u came up I’ve been more motivated to work on my m54 e39. Really keep up bro your break will come anytime really keep at it.
Means a lot Nathan thank you! Hope the e39 project goes well. That’s a great chassis and a great engine to go with it!
Your a good man❤.Giving so much love to these beautiful cars and give them away for free ,is heart touching. As a german i can only say how much we adore BMW & Mercedes & Audi & Porsche & Volkswagen in our Country❤.Thanks man great Job on this one.

@@DayOffDIY i hope you are doing a lot more of this Videos saving german cars ❤️.I will watch them all.
Wish you success bro from here in the UK. Nice to have a decent person with the right objectives. Hope you get a ramp soon.
I been working on cars at home for last 15-20 years. I never thought I would enjoy working on German cars until I bought my wife a Mercedes 6 years ago. They are little hard to with on and parts are expensive but really a joy once you get them fixed and back on the road again! I’m looking at older BMWs for my kids now and your videos really give me the inspiration.
im in another continent and you motivated mme to start working on my own things, i own a home that requires a lot of repairs, now immm doing them by myself on my day off "wink" next step is cars. you are a legend and i will be celebrating once this channel blows up
Really appreciate it man, there’s always DIY work to be done! Where ya from?
@@DayOffDIY Morocco, first country to recognize U.S independance, we've been friends for a while
morocco! amazing! thanks for being a part of the channel my friend!
Buddy you are awesome. Hearing you do German stuff and naming it is hilarious to me every time (I am German). What you do is inspirational and awesome. And you are just a down to earth kinda guy. Mad respect, wonderful project, wish I could like this video 50 times for your sake. Whoever gets this is really lucky, even I wish I could win it! I just learned to wrench as well on my e46, it’s the car I grew up in and it has my love and soul, so I try to treat her well. I was captivated for the whole video and besides how cool I find it, it’s refreshing to see someone who mentiones torque specs and works neat. Great content. You remind me of M539! Greets from Germany and keep it going. I‘m sure great things will happen to you and your channel! Guten Torque to you brother 😂
Hahaha I love it! How’d I sound with the gummi pfledger? Awesome to hear you’re treating your BMW well. I try to stay as detailed as I can with out getting too boring. Really appreciate the support and the comment, means a lot!!!
I like your attitude of going above and beyond for the tradesmen. I always show up at my mechanic's shop with a little something extra to show gratitude for the hustle. And Sage is like, "Button this thing up and throw me my ball!"
LOL sage always could use more attention :) Thanks for the awesome comment
Amazing video. Very cool to see how much your mother cares and supports you.
Love my 2008 n52 engine - lots of fun and very reliable to date.
Great cars, great engine. I mean it when I say they’re one of my fscorites
this dude does a better job than every tech i personally know. truly amazing.
appreciate it andrew! i always tried to keep high standards as a tech, and am still trying to do the same if not better :)
@@DayOffDIY the industry needs more techs like you but I totally understand why people choose to take their own path. Dealerships are a slog and it's getting tougher to be an indie.
This guy seems so genuine, gained a new subscriber love the content!! Excited to enter ur future giveaways when you're able to come to Canada, hope to give a tour of the maple land!
I enjoy watching your work a lot. Have 3 bmws myself therefore i understand your passion for them. Keep up the great work, hope your channel will grow big. Cheers from Latvia.🎉

Thank you! Means a lot
Walnut wood is my spirit plant
Me too 😂🥺
It’s such a gorgeous wood! I really like this trim
Awesome vid! I really appreciate you posting this video and buying this exact car. I also have a 2006 325i which I daily. A lot has crapped on me in the last year and it’s hard to afford to fix most of it as I’m 19 and in full time college. About to hit 200k miles and so far it’s been such a great car but reliability is getting iffy now haha. Valve cover gasket has crapped on me so I’ve been topping it off from time to time now. Saving up to fix it when I can afford it. I recently fixed my dead alternator, changed all my bad coolant hoses and reservoir as it had a bad leak. Next on the list is my leaking power steering reservoir, bushings, all brakes and rotors, seat mat to remove airbag light, and fix my ac and heat as both randomly stopped working a year ago now. This video was honestly what I needed to give me hope that I can get my car running like it’s supposed to one day! Mechanically she’s not the best right now but I do detail her the best I can to make her feel nice cosmetically! Happy to have found your channel, I hope this video will help you gain more subscribers and turns out to be profitable in the long run. Thanks again!
Mannn this is what I love to see for real all the effort and time thats going into it I hope the person that wins appreciates the car and your time and effort and shares the same excitement 💯

Okay, sorry to leave so many comments but I'm sure it helps with the algorithm. I noticed on your driving footage not too far along in the video. They're is a pull out somewhere along in the area that you're in. It's my favorite spot in California that I've ever been to just unbelievably gorgeous. It's after Mill Creek campground and after you go down that hill but before you get to the redwood prairie Creek area
The more comments the better!!! Isn’t that stretch so gorgeous?! I don’t know the name of it but it’s one of my favorite parts as well. Glad you got to experience it in persob

Solid work sir! I imagine the editing process for this video took quite some time as well!

Sweet vid! Watched it all with no intention of entering the competition as I'm in Europe. Gave me some ideas of what to do to my own e90!
Amazing job! Keep the faith!
Congratulations, Alec! That’s a great looking E-90. I’ve been watching your excellent videos for about a year now and I’ve really enjoyed your programming. Wow - only 7 minutes in, but what a phenomenal view you had on your drive there and on the way home! I really regret not driving around California more, and it's absolutely on the cards in the future for my wife and I. Just wanted the say, the video production is top tier also. Another great video.
