  • The fence grabbing rule was also put in place following a Tank Abbot fight where he was totally gassed out, and on the verge of being knocked out. So he ended up holding his opponent pressed against the cage by grabbing the fence with both his hands and just holding on to dear life. Some of these rules definitely helped the sport have more entertaining fights. The lay & pray was probably one of my favorite rules to first show up. I really did not enjoy the Gracie & Shamrock fight where as the narrator rightfully explains, he would just hold on and use his grappling to 'hold on'. Didn't make for entertaining fights to see someone hold on to another fighter like that for 10 minutes. If you are a fan of the sport you should definitely try to watch the first 30 or so UFCs. It's really interesting to watch them even after all this time. I had all the Pride FC & the 80 first UFCs on DVD. No clue where all those DVDs went lol. I hate myself.

I don't know how they do hydration testing but if One FC is doing that now and the way their fighters look it seems like there might be a way to get the results you want without being as hydrated as much as the test would indicate. • Thanks for bringing One’s water testing to light. Many people have no clue what it is and no one knows that the weight classes are different in One. One nearly quit as a company following the death their fighter. UFC and other orgs need to figure it out. Eddie is shorter than his competition but he’s very muscular. 190 walk around weight and 170 fight weight makes more sense than UFC fighters walking around at 190 and fighting at 155. Eddie is smaller than his competition but look at Conor fighting at 145 against Aldo. I’d love to see the actual fight weight of the UFC’s best.

The game seems to be aiming alot towards cutting as much as possible since some fighters can be 20 pounds heavier after the weigh in so fighters can essentially compete a couple weight classes lower then they actually are, which goes a long way towards defeating the purpose of such small weight classes

The point is to stop weight cutting where you drop a massive amount for the weigh-in and gain it back by the time of the fight. You can't do that if the weigh-in is like 2 hours before the fight. If you starve and dehydrate yourself to be 10 pounds lighter 2 hours before the fight, you'll be in dogshit shape by the time the fight starts. Eye strikes, throat strikes, back of the head strikes, groin strikes, back of the knee kicks, knees and kicks to a downed opponent, 12-6 elbows, grabbing the other person's hand, twisting the other person's fingers, Kimura throws. All things that are actively taught in Kajukenbo. In my first month (I did Kajukenbo for about 7 years), I was taught proper form to avoid hurting your hand hitting the other person on the chin or collarbone for a proper throat strike, proper hand position for an effective eye strike, and how to control and twist the other person's hand and wrist in order to dislocate/tear their shoulder.

There's a clear difference between WWE and MMA with clothing and fights. WWE every person can dress skimpy because the fights don't matter, the outcomes all follow some storyline or what not. MMA is a more pure form of fighting. The female fighters aren't allowed to wear anything skimpy either and for good reason, it's inappropriate in a ring with professionals of the sport and disrespectful to your opponent. The Ring girls aren't fighting. They literally are to look pretty and they enjoy their job

  • I would love to see the UFC and all other promotions implement One's anti-weight cutting rules. It is a harsh and dangerous practice and there is no advantage to it. Everyone is cutting weight just so they won't be the one guy at a disadvantage. Not having fighters dehydrate to cut weight also gives them more stamina since they are often still recovering after rehydrating right up to the start of the fight. This leads to more exciting fights for the viewers and less fighters completely gassing-out by the end of round 1.

    • It doesn't work though, it only measures urine hydration and can easily be cheated

      @ruzreuben9755@ruzreuben97552 жыл бұрын
    • @@ruzreuben9755 I don't know if the procedure has changed since I made this comment, but I know at least at one point they were checking their weight right up to near the fight. I was to say about 1 or 2 hours before the fight? That was (at least at that time) the difference between most promotions and "walking weight" weigh-in procedures: you wouldn't have a chance to rehydrate and recover. And if your weight was still cut that close to the fight, you would be a dead man walking since oftentimes fighters can barely stand up during the weigh-in when they are cutting in other promotions. If they changed to just checking urine hydration level, that is different from what it used to be and does seem like it could be cheated even if it would be challenging.

    • Looking at boxing has always made me wonder if weight cutting doesn't increase the chance of brain trauma. Most boxers who die of a cerebral hemorrhage shortly after a fight a guys from the smaller weight classes. You'd think it would be the heavier guys because their punches have more power but it's not. That makes me wonder if they aren't still dehydrated somewhat and that as a result their brain loses some of the impact absorption that a proper level of hydration would give them.
