    • The landriver defender 110 from the 90s and early 2thoudands are the real defender s these new defender s are not built like the older ones and cannot take an extreme off road beating like the older models that were built for extreme hostile conditions. This is why the older defender s still hold their value and are super expensive to maintain wich is why alot of guys switched to Toyota land cruiser or other off road brands.

Owned a Toyota that blew a head gasket. I guess some of it comes down to luck of the draw. Best to own anything new today with a warranty (more tech comes with many more potential issues).

Basically everything plastic in the LR has been mended or replaced. The design is often comically bad.

      @DefenderPuma@DefenderPuma2 ай бұрын
    • may I ask which toyota blew the head gasket? Was it Tundra.... at 200k miles? I have not heard of such issue on toyota/lexus trucks/body-on-frame SUVs with a mileage below 150k unless they were extremely abused and lacked proper maintenance.

  • My wife’s supercharged Range Rover Sport has been rock solid. Zero issues from new to 80k miles. While i do sympathize with the OP, i bet 95% of the people complaining online about reliability have probably never owned them. If reliability was as bad as everyone claims - LR would have been out of business a long time ago.

    • Not true. My LR4 has been trash. But I like the look of it and deal with issues as they come. The least reliable car I’ve owned. But it was cheaper than a Tacoma and still offered off road ruggedness. It does perform the best off road out of all my cars though. I follow a LandRover forum on Facebook and 90% of the posts are, “this broke how can I fix it.” I still have mine tho 🤷🏻‍♂️

So far 25 to date and counting including first edition 110 D240 no issues and still going. I myself drive a 110 D300 HSE and are just as happy as can be. But still selling the best version LR because of two small mechanical issues that was sorted and you having just the best service from LR is honestly is not a reason to let it go. They really do go above and beyond for the product and customers. Happy LR owner from South Africa

  • In my opinion, the trade-in value alone makes keeping it for at least another year or two the best option financially, assuming you can afford it in the first place. Besides, once everything is fixed under warranty, it might be pretty reliable, and if it isn't, you can still trade it later.

  • I have a Jaguar and the warranty/service side has been amazing. People don't realize how generous they are, and that the warranty period also covers routine maintenance. Regular service is covered, and it's not a lease. My F-Pace has only had a couple little quirks (low coolant warning and a sporadic check engine light) that the dealer addressed and explained immediately. QC seems the be JLR's weakest link but they still blow all the US manufacturers away in every aspect, especially when you consider companies like GM and Ford seem to think Explorer's and Tahoe's warrant the same price point as Range Rover's.

  • I worked at a Land Rover dealer. The amount of catastrophic failures we saw in low mileage and well care for vehicles was shocking. At 60k their suspensions are wasted, electrical failures, coolant leaks. We rarely saw one exceed 150k miles even with every bit of maintenance done. What was hilarious was how many came off the trailer brand new with major problems. That’s what happens when you buy a British built India owned vehicle.

There were known issues but owners tend to lie about it or have amnesia for some reason. It's better to share your true story that the warranty will cover the engine light, brake calipers, engine oil leak, etc., and not just be an ambassador of the brand. Bottomline is LR//RR are good looking and cool cars,, hands down, and offers social status, and that's what the brand is good at. I might get a used one by the way, because it looks cool. =D

  • It has nothing to do with the reliability of the defender, there are tons of defenders out there, when you have money, you want a new car every year, that's how simple it is

  • People like you that say things like "that's just the way it is today and we have to deal with it" is the reason that's the way it is today. Try giving your money to a company that makes and sells a dependable vehicle and if enough of us do that then the market will follow.

  • No matter how great the warranty and the dealer is (I mean, it does, but not for long term ownership when the warranty expires... ) if the vehicle needs to be there often, I can understand wanting to trade it in... Overall, Land Rover is less reliable and cost of ownership is much higher than other brands. I love the looks of the Defender and thought about getting one... but depreciation, cost of services, overall reliability issues... I just could not do it. But man does it look amazing. Specially in the configuration (with the options) that you got. Your wife is making the smart decision. Best to bite the bullet and get rid of it now. Looking forward to seeing what she gets next.

  • But it looked SO cool. Now. Go get a new Toyo Landcruiser in the new body style. You'll enjoy all the time saved at mechanics and dealership service centers to spend with your family and kid...and not worry about anything going out on you. Lexus makes some cool vehicles too. Two things we learned : 1) Why do the British drink warm beer? They have Lucas refrigerators. 2) It's hard to make electronics leak oil; but, the British have figured out how to do it.

Only thing that’s been more strange in my shopping experience is that in 2024 the Porsche Macan does not support Android Auto. Apple Play only - and they don’t apologize for it.

I'd drive that thing until the damn wheels fell off before I'd even consider taking that big of a bath. That's like renting a car for $2,500 a month, on top of having to fill it with gas and insure it.

Awful reliability, lacklustre dealership support, horrifically expensive parts, painful owner experience. That my friends comes from a British guy who once lived and breathed Land Rover.

I spent almost 100K and could not drive it . they fixed the problems . Why are you not mentioning ? Defender is not a reliable car . You are not getting paid from land rover I guess. I traded my car quickly . be bold since you are not getting paid from them . sometimes people rely on your reviews.

  • Saw another video on this SUV where they went camping out in the sticks; the battery went dead on it BECAUSE every time you open the driver door the electronics boot up every time! That wasn't the worst part---they got a jump BUT it still needed a tech to come out with a laptop to reset the engine management computer. What a POS........

  • Cap. 🧢 LR RR have consistently been far more problematic than most other brands. Yeah, Tundras have issues but the percentage of people bricking their Tundras is far less than those with LR/RR. Imagine, you’ve had these issues in the first 10k miles of ownership. Imagine what it’s like when you’ve had it for 50k. I love LR/RR. Even thought of getting a LR4 as a over landing rig. Went as far as to test drive one. Settled on a GX460 based off the feedback I got from owners. Beautiful suv. But not worth the headache.

  • No marks off for liking the Defender, they are incredible. That said, to say that cars these days are all unreliable because they are high tech is just not factually correct. Land Rover pretty much hits the bottom of the reliability list ... usually ticks in just below Chrysler... Since you enjoy the off road features, try a Landcruiser (2024) or the new GX.
