If crazy conspiracy theories are a cancer on the Republican Party, people like Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove have spent the last 20 years selling cigarettes to their base. #Colbert #ALateShow #Monologue

Everyone who suggests it should be listened to. You want to get straight down to it that's God and the Flood and the Rainbow right there. It's usually going to come from someone you don't like. Ok don't like the person. Still probably a good idea. They might be proposing it for selfish suspicious reasons. Ok. But can we afford to say no to peace again? Really? I know little about Nancy Pelosi but she seemed interested in compromise and talking it out and being slow to impeach Trump. Freedom came from Renaissance and Enlightenment thinkers from Europe (and they drew from ancient Greek and Roman sources), not the US. In fact, the framers drew from these sources, but never went as far as them to give anyone but rich, white, male land holders any real freedom, rights, or citizenship. The US was, and still is, a plutocracy where only a very small and elite segment of the populace has any real rights. Read political philosophy and history.

And refused to hear from witnesses directly? There was absolutely investigations, bud, corroborated testimony from multiple sources in the white house, the DOJ and the director of National Intelligence himself reviewed the formal complaints and leaked information that was submitted and discussed.. There were even calls for multiple investigation inquiries to take place after the impeachment. Impeachment is not a criminal investigation btw and does not require such events to take place.

      @G0DofRock@G0DofRock3 жыл бұрын
    • @@G0DofRock Ah, I see where your confusion lies. The Democrats had the majority in the House. That's why it even started in the first place. And after all you claim was done, there were only two very weak process related and easily refuted articles of impeachment. Where did all that dirt go? The other problem was that the House was responsible for creating the case against Trump and they did not bring forward a single fact witness with first hand knowledge. Instead, they brought in four Constitutional scholars who were not related to the case in any fashion. None of the people you named were witnesses. There is nothing you can say to convince me otherwise as I sat through almost every single gruelling minute of it on cspan. Have a nice day.

    @tinabean713@tinabean7133 жыл бұрын
    • Here's an example; If you have an idea to do a crime and get your friend to help you with it, then you both get in trouble, you're are still singularly responsible for the original crime, even if your friend aided you in achieving it. He is responsible for his act of aiding in a criminal act, but not responsible for the original criminal act. As, theoretically, it would not have happened without you, the originator of the criminal plan. So it's like a pyramid of concurrent crimes, and Trump is at the top, responsible for inciting and directing the crimes others are directly responsible for.

  • I get the argument about the idea of “creating one’s own reality” being an increasing problem that eventually led to a rule by conspiracy and false propaganda, but we can go further back than that and pinpoint this to the phrase “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion” being popularized in education shortly after the Segregationists joined hands with the Republican Party ~65 years ago. Sure, the full phrase is “everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts” but that is certainly not how it was regurgitated to and subsequently by the last 3-4 generations. Even before it was ritually used as a defense to shut down rebuttal, it was used to inspire our youth as a way to encourage free thinking, free ideology and full embrace of knowledge. But it became an embrace of whatever the individual WANTS to believe.... And It was already on everyone’s tongues before the world became keyboard warriors. The main factor that helped misinformation explode can’t be said better than the following: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” - George Carlin

    • the original idea of the stock market was something similar to Kickstarters where people would purchase shares of a company so that the company would have funds to bring out new products or otherwise improve themselves and then the owners of the shares would get a percentage of the increased profits. speculators very quickly made it what it is today, a casino for the rich to manipulate share prices to their advantage and not infrequently to the detriment of the finances of the companies in question since they can make money just as easily tearing a company down as building it up. Check out the movies 'Wall Street' and oddly enough 'pretty woman' to give you an idea what hedge funds do.
