Dogs have a huge advantage. They're not afraid or care to get hurt. It doesn't affect them or their survival. They have a dog bowl to go back to. A leopard can't afford to get injured. An injury for a leopard(or any solitary big cat) is a death sentence.

@@travisgoodrich4290 Some Dogs are tough......nothing to really do with a higher pain tolerance. They are just tougher skinned, with tougher bodies. Equally, i have seen big cats take quite a lot of pain, and equally have seen them near screaming in pain, and the same is true of Dogs.

The reason the leopard gives up when any animal fights back is because the leopard is a loan hunter, same as a bear, they run away when the prey fights back because loan hunters cannot afford to get injured otherwise they will not be able to hunt or heal by themselves. It’s the same reason bears run away even though they’re so big and strong, they can’t afford injuries because they can die from not being able to hunt

They're not in their territory that's why they run away when there's resistance, they're in human places they know that.
Yes, cat are very cautious in unfamiliar place. In their teritory there is no way leopard would be back down. Looks like the leopard was already starved so they need to enter human place just to search any food.

That dogo kicked that leopards ass hard because it could not sneak up on it what did that leopard do? Ran and that dog ran after it cause it knew it was a better fighter. Leopards are absolutely not fighting animals. They get the jump on animals before they can react to get the kill. If the animal is big and fights back it wont risk dyimg to it and instead will flee. Its smart actually.
I've watch a local dog against a fully grown leopard and it's a stalemate.

The leopard will nearly always choose to escape rather than risk serious injury - as that can often mean death for the leopard as it prevents him from hunting effectively - during a predatory attack, unless it can't escape. Then it will turn it up a few notches and go absolutely banshee on it's oppressor.

@@SOPACHNAYA people don’t seem to have common sense unfortunately. The see a leopard or any other wild predator running away and they think it lost. Most of the time these wild animals prefer low risk hunting meaning they don’t like wasting energy fighting for food when they can grab an easier target. but when a leopard has no way to escape and it’s forced to fight then it will kill the dog 99% of the time. I mean I’ve seen videos of bears running away from dogs attacking them, but that doesn’t mean that a dog will kill a bear.
What a bunch of old and too-young leopards! :) I think the moral of the story is that if a dog is fierce and strong enough and can manage to survive the first several seconds of the attack, the leopard may be inclined to reduce the risk by disengaging. In an all-out fight, however, you'd have a lot of dead dogs in this video.

Nice video! I have read many of the comments stating the luck of the dog, While this is true to some extent let's get some facts on board here! Leopards are solitary animals they only tolerate each other during mating. Dogs by nature are packed animals, just like the wolf. Dogs are used to fighting( Each other in their pack or rival dogs), it is a norm and it is how their hierarchy is developed. Due to their fighting nature dogs generally have a higher pain threshold than most cats. Leopards are almost exclusively ambush predators, and are not built for long struggles. If you Google leopard hunting and watch the video you will see that when a leopard attacks and it's prey it's generally very quick and short, any long struggles may result in the possible injury or death of the leopard. They just don't have the wind of a dog, think about it how often do you see a dog get tired! There are a number of dogs that would completely "no sale" any leopard attack or at least nine out of 10 of them.

I doubt there are any dogs that will 'no sale a Leopard attack' some circumstances might stop the attack, human intervention for example but not the dogs behavior or fighting back. Usually if the Leopard attacks, the dog will be eaten, any dog! in fact, the Leopard will probably take the dog 20 feet up in a tree to eat it. Leopards are very cunning hunters, they have to be, they do not have a dish of food waiting for them at home.
Even though the cat is more nimble and powerful this is more of a mental battle. Canines are in general more couragious and persistant than felines imo and they showed to have the necessary will power, stamina and jaws to make the leopard reconsider it's actions and run.

O motivo aí do vídeo do leopardo ter fugido não quer dizer que o cão é capaz de derrotar e matar um felino, ao contrário se a luta tivesse ido até o final, o desfecho seria outro e coitado do cão....

Also here you can see what the guard dog's job is, not to kill the predator, but to drive it away. The predator ran away = the dog won. Even street mongrels or German shepherds have successfully done this job. But it is better, of course, to use a stronger and more sensitive defender dog for this purpose.
In nature a loss is death and a win is dinner. The best result the dog ever gets with a cat is a draw.

Influye mucho el territorio en el qué se encuentre, el perro normalmente si está en casa defenderá a muerte su espacio y más si sabe qué su amo está expuesto el perro da la vida. El Leopardo normalmente cuando también es atacado huye. Bien por los perros el Leopardo es un asesino sigiloso y letal.

This type of leopards are domestic pets from the zoo they probably both grow up together with the dog.I use to hunt with my uncle and his friends in Zimbabwe in Africa with large sum of dogs about 20 to 30 dogs...accidentally one day we stumbled into a huge male leopard territory and the dogs attacked the leopard long story cut short in the end the leopard had no choice but to club down the tree,He managed to killed 3 dogs injured 10 dogs and ripped 1 of my uncles friends face off with his claws...

No one dog can beat a leopard, let alone killing it. However, beating or killing the leopard is not the goal of the dog but its goal is to stay alive by either running away or making the situation so difficult to the leopard that it will run away itself. And achieving that is a big win for the dog.

@HB Kennel The key point everyone seems to miss. Iam sure you have seen the one famous footage of the dogo killing the mountain lion W/claws in the chain link cage. For me someone who has hunted with Dogo Argentino's numerous times, and owned 2, I could never question that breeds determination, power, and pain tolerance. And that is just the Dogo. All of these fans of the lion king wouldn't be in tears if they could ever see what degree and speed a Volkodav would instantly overwhelm, dominate and destroy a even larger than average stud mountain lion.

In my opinion the leopard has a less getle character, he just wants to eat, so when there is a challenge or resistance he chooses to just run away, because he really doesn't fight. That doesn't mean that the leopard loses to the dog, for example, a clear example of a large leopard can be chased away by the dog's mother, even though with common sense calculations, of course, the leopard can beat the dog's mother because it is much bigger.

I think people forget how powerful some dogs are, large livestock guardians like kangals, Caucasian shepherds, Alabais and Aksaray Malaklisi will more often than not destroy some leopards in a brawl confrontation. Some of these dogs are pushing 120kgs and also have around 700+ psi of jaw pressure which is more than enough for killing the leopard, the tricky thing is cats like to ambush. Without ambushing leopards would have a hard time taking down these dogs. A bite to the neck on nearly any animals a guaranteed kill. Apart from bears, elephants, rhinos and hippos.

Great video! Very interesting. With their large teeth, claws, power, stealth and ferocity I would have never thought a dog could handle large cats like the ones in the video. Crazy! It takes game dogs to fight them cats that's for sure.

Leopards don't go for necks they have the strongest bite force of any other cat. Only thing on this planet that bites harder than a leopard is a hippo. Leopards go for the head and crush the skull. If they go for the neck it's because they didn't have a clear shot at the head and they will crush the wind pipe instead. In order for any dog to win against a leopard they have to get extremely lucky and get ahold of the leopard by it's neck and hold on for dear life and not let go. They will only have one split second to do this before the leopard crushes the dogs head and takes it up a tree
