  • Was this scene essential to the film? No. Is it still glorious? Absolutely.

    • Actually it is kind of essential foreshadowing because it shows that when pressed Sing can match a kung-fu master's Warner Brothers-level superspeed :) There was always something unique about him lol

    • Yes.. it was kinda essential. We dismissed this as a gag but it actually foreshadowed the landlady being a kungfu master because she hella fast… and sing having latent kungfu master potentials.. all the gags have.. the poison recovery, the speedy getaway.. the super strength

    • It actually is, considering this foreshadows his high potential. Otherwise he'd just have a huge power up out of nowhere.

    • I mean, at this point the MC doesn't know he has potential power and he can manage to escape from landlady in the first try? Don't make comedy aspect in this movie blurry your judge.

  • This movie is Oscar worthy, sure the acting isn't the best, but the action pieces, the comedy, the dark/brutal elements (black axe gang, the harp players) of the movie are all just amazing, and even after all this time they are still amazing. I think it is time for a sequel :)

    • Honestly if you understand cantonese and have watched a few more stephen chow movies, the acting is basically perfect (for what it’s trying to be). • "Memories can be painful. To forget may be a blessing." Truly deep. I watched this when I was a child. After watching it again after so many years, which I'm an adult now who has gained many experience. I can relate to this since I couldn't remember most of my childhood and teenage years. Those were my "dark" ages. I can no longer recall most of what happened to me in the past after I went to college. Maybe having myself distracted by assignments or having entirely new experience has replaced those bitter memories. So I thought, maybe that was a good thing. Forgetting about the past and just move on in life, without them dragging me towards the future.

Give me intense metaphor, unrealistic expectations, hyperbolic expressions, give me some grissle to chew on! Make me think about more than the production value put into it. @ViewTube_Emperor_of_Mankind@ViewTube_Emperor_of_Mankind2 жыл бұрын
    • thing is though, a lot of that cartoonishness in the chase scene was not CGI, it was an old school cinematic trick of speeding up the Actor's footage to make it appear like they were faster than they were, then superimposing the running footage across the location filmed frames. the actors were filmed in a harness in front of a green screen and then moving their arms/legs and making facial gestures and poses. the CGI in those frames were them pasting the looped footage of the feet and hands onto the actor's silhouettes, the rest was old school filmography with modern tweaks at the time the film was made to make it look seamless. they filmed many many days of the two actors in the harnesses running, then superimposed the motion blur of of all the feet and hand movements in a short loop to give it that looney toons look. something hollyweird has not been able to replicate ever since. that's why Stephen Chow is a cinematic genius, taking old school film tricks and gave them a fresh spin resulting in this absolute gem of a movie.

  • I love the movie Kung Fu hustle. It's very underrated. Crunching tiger and hidden dragon. Is the same movie but professional. I knew it was going to win a lot of awards but if it wasn't for Kung Fu hustle crunching tiger hitting dragon would never win. I love both of them. Both a great movies.
