I used to believe DJI drones were drastically overpriced until I ended up owning two of them (Zoom and Air2). Given what they can do, and the superb engineering and support that company provides, they are well worth the money. The M30 at $15K is also well worth the money and given it's target audience of first responders, not at all unreasonable in price for the fabulous product you get and it's intended uses, including saving lives. I am not a DJI "fanboy". In fact I'm about the cheapest person in the world and super critical on most things today, especially when they result from dishonest or greedy actions. But I'm also very appreciative of top quality products that work well and are well supported. My hats off to you DJI !

It has all sorts of applications beyond just first responders, really a brilliant drone, you could build an entire business around one of these and make a lot of money.
15k is an absolute bargain for it's capabilities compared to them having to call out a helicopter with a thermal. WAY cheaper not even a comparison

im a firefighter and my department has one of these. it's super expensive and you require a special license to use it but it's awesome and makes Search and rescue easier, plus other things.

The drone was a demo model slated for return to DJI after the product review, but suffice to say DJI would not entrust their flagship surveillance and rescue drone to a mere mortal.
I was at the Memphis BBQ Fest this May and on the grounds there was this drone that was up in the air for an insane amount of time without ever moving. As I walked toward where the drone was I saw that it was tethered by a wire which I assumed was power. It had to be something similar to this Matrice 30 and I'm sure it had all the sensors and all and was being monitored for security. To see this video and thinking everything that drone at the BBQ Fest was seeing really blew my mind. Just amazing.

11:39 its so counter intuitive when you didn't study aerodynamics that a hover has less flight time than when its moving. but basically when you're drone is moving, its going in an area with less disturbed air w/c will give you a little bit more lift (motors wont have to work that hard) than the area where your drone is hovering(disturbed/turbulent air). thats what i thought anyway when i thought about aerodynamics.
I know even less about aerodynamics but from a high altitude helicopter rescue documentary (climbers on Mt Everest) I can confirm that hovering a helicopter is more demanding than just flying around. Even if a helicopter is able to fly up to e. g. 7km it may not be able to hover there.

Agreed, if you need to pull air from above then the air is LESS DENSE... requiring more effort to maintain your current position. Even worse is descending into your backwash - the dreaded Vortex Ring! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vortex_ring_state
I'm also assuming that hovering demands multiple small inputs that uses more power.
The new DJI Matrice M30 is absolutely fantastic. What I find fascinating as a mechanical engineer is the potential for DJI to reverse-engineer the technology in the M 30 for professional cinematic drones such as the Mavic series.
Why does DJI have to "reverse engineer" anything when they are the ones that engineered it from the ground up?
@@randomname931 The reason that I used the phrase reverse engineer is that the currently the technology in the M30 does not exist in a drone of a smaller size.DJI will have incorporate more the features into an SOC (System on Chip)for them to be used in smaller drones.
@@Unamatrix01 reverse engineer means to break down someone else's product in an attempt to learn its inner secrets in order to reproduce it. DJI doesn't have to reverse engineer their own product. they already know how it's made. if they have to miniaturize it, that's another thing and just plain old "engineering".

Draganfly ($DPRO) is undoubtedly the best solution when looking for an autonomous drone (or manual if you want), for any use. They have currently been chosen by Lufthansa to strengthen the maritime search and rescue infrastructure, they are helping civilians and military personnel in Ukraine by providing them with drones to detect and defuse mines, deliver medicines to the sick and much more. I personally see it as the best innovative company in terms of the services that its drones offer. In fact, it was chosen by the US government to send its drones to rescue Ukraine.

I work as a commercial drone operator mainly doing search and rescue and wildfire. Been using the 300 series but can't wait to get my hands on this
DJI are excellent company. Got myself a Mavic Air and the thing is very durable on top of everything else. Its revolutionising consumer film making in a big way
This is fantastic for rescue teams and police. Kind of reminds me of that net bumper that guy made for cops to stop cars, great idea.

@@Riomojo I doubt it. With mass production sure it will get cheaper. But nightvision googles for example, they are not military only anymore, theres a big consumer market but still these things cost above 6k for a low resolution one. Sadly not everything gets cheaper with consumer market.

Had a chance to play with the thermal capability at a large event while working security. We could watch foot traffic at night, through trees, and re-direct on demand to shorten the lines. We could also watch people in the dark parking lots when they start checking cars to see which ones are unlocked or still have purses in them. Ours was just a trial, but I think we are going to go all in on this one. Using other cameras from the command center, we could put pins down in flight hub for the pilot to focus on too.
Wow. I knew that search and rescue has started using drones, but like I was thinking most of them just use "standard" drones with just a bit better cameras. But to have something that is purpose built like that. I mean it makes sense I should have thought that such a thing would exist. But yeah, with thermal cameras, amazing zoom capabilities, sensors galore, and it even looks like it can do object tracking like when it was looking at all those cars in the street. Every search and rescue team needs at least one of these, especially if there is a lot of wooded areas where people can get lost or something, mountains, I can imagine like to find lost skiiers and such. Fantastic product DJI. Saving lives!
I could see this being used is a tactical movie or show. Imagine being a sniper, scouting ahead using the info on this drone. Wind speed, distance, and thermal vision. You have it all.

Okay, I think I finally found the first DJI drone that I actually want. I'm a FPV pilot, I don't really care about aerial photography, I just wanna go fast and do sweet tricks but this thing has the exact sorta feature set that WOULD make aerial photography enjoyable to me.
I've only just bought my first drone (mini 2 lol) but I want one!! That has some insane technology on it. I'd be quite happy to be called out by search and rescue.

This needs to be affordable enough for everybody. Imagine having this as part of your safety or emergency kit if you're an outdoorsman, hiker etc... There are so many uses for this I can't list them all. Faster response time can be the difference in saving a life. Fantastic video, fantastic drone. Although I do wish DJI would not make everything look like the Mavic. Awesome stuff man!!

I really wish it was. Even just a hand held or a head mounted high quality thermal monoculars are easily a few thousand dollars, let alone an entire drone and all the other sensors

Its 15 grand, it's not designed for consumer use it's designed for first responders and organizations that can actually afford it. This drone has professional applications

This is exciting. I can see small police departments and rescue service being able to afford these. Not only are they more affordable than other alternatives but easier to use meaning more individuals will be capable of helping. I wouldn't feel like my privacy is being challenged knowing it could very well save lives in the right hands.

The Hi-Res mode should be very useful in lost person rescue mission. Let’s say we need to inspect the large area for lost person. We can the drone can hover in one area and take Hi-res Visible and Thermal and then move on to other area while the pictures is being transmit to the base. And large amount of volunteers can see the pictures (Crowdsourcing style) and mark the area of interested for further inspection. I hope DJI found this comment and implement this in the software.

It's not an internal battery on the aircraft, it has two so you pull one at a time
I dont get what the point is? You still have to land….. how long does a battery swap take? 1 min TOPS? I fail to see the point?? Maybe with the old style drones that took forever to calibrate and acquire satellites but new drones connect so fast and dont need to be recalibrated if just swapping battery and staying in the same location
@@baqcasanke Redundancy. If battery fails in flight you have the other to fall back on.
@@baqcasanke he already stated the reason in the video. you don't have to "boot up" the device again, acquire GPS lock, etc.

I think Mavic needs to develop a system, with some sort of backup power, wherein their drone models can find and locate each other : A sort black box and location transmitter/receiver. This way we could use one drone, to easily find another crashed or lost drone. I could see someone opening up a business with one of these commercial class drones, just to locate the drones people have lost.

Very cool, and pretty cinematography, the boat and water was very cool. Thank you. DJI is an amazing company. The tech is just smarter and next level. I’m sure they are aware of the ideas I have. Maybe if possible high intensity LiDAR sensors in combination with night vision, utilizing the amazing capability of the patented range technology. I’m sure they already have that in the works. Very, very cool.

Def an amazing drone. The average person wouldn’t need this, but a cinematographer would find great use for this. I only worry that it’s size would be a problem. The Mavic 3 is pretty good for consumer use, even the air 2. The camera on this drone from what you have shown is great, very clear. This is a dream to use. Good content.

Hey Gene, careful flying around the san pedro coastal area. There's a lot of posted signs that notify you that it's a no drone zone that are easy to miss and that don't show up on online maps. Also that drone would be helpful around San Pedro because it's pretty often people intentionally jump off the cliffs you were filming and not too long ago rescuers got hurt trying to check up on them after they had fell.
Great point, always good to check all levels of regulation. We normally are most familiar with federal regulations, but finding state and local UAS regulations are important to know as well.
As long as you don't take off from Point Fermin, or Friendship park your good. Just take off from the street north west of there. 👊

@@adnan_velic I guess I was more meaning a big reason to upgrade from the 2pro. Higher frame rates on a drone aren't really worth it for most people since drone footage feels pretty slow
@@burgunbeerd I upgraded from the m2p not because of frame rates but because the sensor is substantially bigger, flight time is much better, d log is much much better. There is really no comparison between a m2p and mavic 3 it’s a huge upgrade. My inspire 2 with x5s sits in my closet full time now.
