Gearbox fault could be as simple as a speed sensor. If it can't monitor speed then it can't change gear, so fault comes up on dash

Aaah ok. Shame the dealers couldn't figure that out when I took the car 3 times to them.

Did you figure out what was the problem? This is happening to mine and it is really stressful smh. My Jaguar XF 2009 4.2 Non Supercharged. The gear shifter / selector is stuck on Park. Wont let me shift to Drive or Reverse or any of them. If you can please help out i'd really appreciate it. Thank you

Can completely understand the frustration. I took the car three times to the dealer. Twice the issue didn't replicate while they tried, so they just sent me back saying their diagnostics did pick up some fault, but they can't do anything as it's not occurring. Third time they did say it could be gearbox electricals need replacing, but they weren't sure replacing exactly what would fix the problem. By then I was already too frustrated with the issue, and ended up selling my XF instead. Proud owner of a Nissan Qashqai now. Shame really, how such a good car is brought down by pity electrical issues.

JLSY i have that too it was stuck in park and i couldent switch it to reverse or anything but then after i pressed the brake really hard it worked and everything was fine but then it happened again and it was even worse even after pressing the brake hard it didnt change

Late or early almost all the jaguar owners will pass by this problems my friend, I'm actually having problems with mine with the change 1-2, 2-1 velocity, but yours seem to be related to an electrical problem also typic of jaguar since Ford bought it, regards and good luck!

Yes, it has been mentioned before that mine seems related to electricals. Frustrating none-the-less. Haven't had courage to take the car to get it fixed. Not looking forward to the amount the dealer is going to quote to fix it.

Sometimes is something easy and cheap like brake or moving wire, I'm also by all the ways trying to avoid the expensive dealer, you can buy a code reader then check what is failing, like I said can be something that a local mechanic can fix or maybe even you like I did many times. Also the code reader is useful because you will know exactly what is failing, you cannot be cheated by the dealer because the use to charge time ( around 90 euros per hour at least) plu$$$$ hand work then they try to expend all the time that is possible to find the fail. What I do with my car is per example buy the piece that is failing by my own (ebay, UK jaguar shops) and go directly with my confident mechanic to change it, so I save the hand work and also most of the times in the price of the piece. Also they are a lot of forums about JAGS, maybe there you can found similar cases like yours and find a proper and cheaper solution, regards.

Hi Paul, unfortunately no, I didn't get it fixed. I took the car three times to the dealer. Twice the issue didn't replicate while they tried, so they just sent me back saying their diagnostics did pick up some fault, but they can't do anything as it's not occurring. Third time they did say it could be gearbox electricals need replacing, but they weren't sure replacing exactly what would fix the problem. By then I was already too frustrated with the issue, and ended up selling my XF instead. Proud owner of a Nissan Qashqai now. Shame really, how such a good car is brought down by pity electrical issues.

@@almflo great news $6000 later and my car being fix on for 7 months .. Its finally fix and running really good - I needed a whole new dashboard and few other things they did before realizing the dashboard was the last step .. And at that point they wasn’t sure thank god it’s fix .. I love my jaguar but think twice before buying a used one .. All the money I spent buying the car and fixings it could bought a new one ☝️

Haha, I didn't even get to enjoy the comfort, ever :). I enjoyed the comfort way better in my good old Ford Mondeo. Currently enjoying Nissan Qashqai.
