  • I think the main problem is despite everything looks perfect, people in countries like Japan enjoy loneliness and this is not for everybody... if you travel to Latin America to a country like Colombia for example, you will have different feelings because despite it doesn't look perfect, people, in general, are far more warming and friendly because they hate loneliness.

    • Japan is an ultra conservative and repressed society. Which is why that repression is often expressed through other outlet's.. Anime and Manga are particular good examples.. "Think" Hentai or brutally graphic violent stories like "Beserk" Media is a way for the Japanese to express thier sexuality and inner conflicts/turmoil that simply cannot be expressed through contemporary society. Japan is a beautiful and fascinating country, but I think if you're suffering lonliness it probably wouldn't be first on my travel destination.

  • I did this kind of solo travelling in mainland China for 4 or more years around 2013-2018 since I was a graduating PhD student who studied in Shanghai at a much lower cost and more ambitious emotions as well as carrying a controversial debt myself, life is not easy, to some extent of tormented. In between I did fly across the Taiwan Strait to see the people and scenes there. Imagine how brave and difficult it can be. Solo means no gfs, no partners, only parents in the call, luckily enough I finish the great adventures independently, becoming more connected and affected by the world, countryside and dreams.

Trying new hobbies and places but also maybe the biggest thing is to help people. I heard a lot of smart people have this issue and it turns into depression quite quickly but helping people who are not furtunate or teaching people seems to be a great way to heal yourself at the same time.

  • You have no idea how many people would kill to be in your position. You’re a smart man so you know it’s all just a matter of perspective. It is always possible to be happy no matter which circumstances you find it yourself in, and that’s because there is always something to be thankful for and happy about, even if it’s being happy that you’re healthy or have lots of money. Whatever is getting you down, just know that you have lots to live for. Your own mind holds the key to how much you’re going to enjoy your life.

  • As someone who's lived in 3 countries and travelled to many more, I fell deeply in love with Japan. It is true that it might seem lonely at times (everybody works tons of hours and minds their own business), but I wish I could live there. People may be less outgoing/open than in latin countries for example, but they're super respectful and will definitely try to help you if you need something, even if they don't speak your language. Also, extremely safe, clean, and that blend between modern and old...just amazing. It might not be for everyone, but it sure is for me!

    • I completely agree. I have lived in Sweden, Denmark and Thailand, not to mention traveling to many different countries for the past 30 years. Travel is my life. I am a social person, and it is harder to make friends in Japan. But everything you said is true. The safest country in the world. Let's just think about that. You never have to worry that someone is going to rob you, or assault you. Everything is very organized, and they spend a huge amount on infrastructure. People will help you, if they see you need something. They value nature, being lawful, respect history and tradition. In Thailand, where I have lived for a long while, it is super easy to meet people, never cold, not as organized or planned out as Japan. I just don't want to live in a country that has cold winters. Lol. Even thought I did live in the Nordic countries when I was much younger. I see so many guys in unhappy marriages in the West, just trying to get by, heavily in debt, because of their wife, family, college costs for their kids, a mortgage, cars and many other things, that I can do without. It works for me, probably not a lot of other people. But Japan is an amazing place, to be sure.

  • Hey man, as a photographer who lives in Osaka, I’ve also lost a lot of my passion for photography for the same reasons. Something that helped is picking up a new hobby: fishing. Japan has a great fishing culture, and it’s a hobby you can start immediately if you have the time. It would be such a missed opportunity if you decided to pick it up after traveling somewhere else. I recommend going to one of the many local fishing shops, ask the staff to set you up with a light starter kit, and then take the train out to the bay. Once you get hooked, you’ll be amazed at how many new places in Japan you’ll discover just trying to find a good fishing spot. Wish you all the best on your trip!

  • Poetic. I love the positivity and the poetic way you worded it. I noticed you said anime. Awesomeness. It’s good that your trying to find and pursue passions. Building a passion, building happiness in life takes work. But that work is important. It’s important to have enjoyments, it’s important to have happiness and love. These items are not easy to keep always, as we go through life, but they are important to build.

  • This rings so true to home, I think the most important part of life is connection with people... It's one thing to travel and see all these amazing places, but if you're fit & healthy and you find an opportunity to meet like minded people; you can go on these adventures together and that's where it can go to the next level... Maybe try staying at a backpackers when you're travelling solo, you never know who you'll meet, the crazy & fun things that can happen and the adventures you'll have.

  • I can feel what you say as you say it and I’m under something very similar makes me think people must look to either be very closely connected to a group and share an entangled life or pursue a huge goal and just essentially live in devotion to it.

  • I loved the parts showing the onsen and the food and lodging stuff too. Great to see and learn more about Japanese culture. Thanks too for the honesty about what you’re experiencing and how traveling and a life of means of not luxury isn’t all it’s made out to be. Like we all think being a millionaire solves all problems but it doesn’t really. I would suggest putting your money to work and finding a mate with it. There are dating clubs, matchmakers, etc (The Millionaire Matchmaker (Patti Stanger I think her name is if you’ve ever watched her show) comes to mind, but it doesn’t have to be her, just someone like that, though seeing an episode of you two working together would be um, interesting to say the least).

  • Some of us don't have time to have a midlife crisis... You said that we must return to a simpler life but in the end money gives you the freedom to overthink life and realize that simple is better as long as you have the necessary money to support such a life.

  • You’ve gotta find a hobby. Maybe a reasonably priced one, not necessarily yachting unless you can easily afford it. That will bring together with some kind of community. The thing is, every hobby and activity is considered cringey in this day and age. And if you look at it in a certain way, it may be true. But you have to just bite the bullet and do it anyways, cringe or not. If you have a very active logical mind, you will always be coming up with reasons not to do things in life, and it leads to stagnation.

  • I'm wanting to go to Japan so bad! I plan to go in November. It looks beautiful, fun, and the food looks amazing. Although I hate to add to the tourist problem. My home area in the USA has been overrun by tourists and tons of people moving here in the past 5-10 years and I absolutely hate it, plus it makes living unaffordable for the locals. Guess thats the only bad thing about everything being at our fingertips. Everyone wants a piece of everything and nothing is hidden or sacred anymore.

  • Pretty much everything done on this vacation doesn’t involve interacting with others. It would be very hard for anyone to enjoy something like this. Why not rent a car and go driving in the mountains where you can meet and talk to touge driving enthusiasts or something like that. Anything more social.

  • Welcome to the world of INTJ. It's pretty easy to feel disconnected, even around friends and family. For me, I have found that I can get "burned out" pretty easily because I get hyper-focused and driven on things and start feeling unbalanced. This is unsolicited advice, but I would definitely keep your camera gear! Most people do not realize the skill and effort it takes to create this high of quality video and content. I think AI is a long way from matching this to this level. Also, you might want to try doing things like learning fine woodworking, or something that requires craftsmanship. I find that it helps to break things up a little. You can go really deep in it, get creative and tactile, and working with natural/exotic materials. Just some thoughts. Thanks for sharing this, Take care

  • That was so honest bro, thank you. My dream is to live just like you tbh. It does look/sound imperfect, but even if you chase after perfect you'll never get it anyway, might as well just "live" and see where life takes you.

  • What you're doing is very normal at different points in life but not necessarily a mid-life crisis. More people would do it if they could afford it. Checking out is a time out from all the worries of the world and just live without stress for a bit. Again you're a talented, handsome and wonderful person and so its ok to just live.

    @Edward-oy7ed@Edward-oy7ed Жыл бұрын
  • I think what is really meant by "don't overthink it" is that you should really come to accept that there is no such thing as perfection in reality. You really _should_ think about whatever matters to you, but there is a terrible return on investment of that time spent if you expect something unreasonable. I find it easier to adjust my expectations when I accept that by default, life is constant stress, pain, misery with the occasional orgasm. After that, life is pretty much heaven for most of us humans. For the most part, we're comparing which super car we prefer and ignoring the fact that super cars actually exist at all for us to even choose from.
