Been woodworking for 35 years and this is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.... Well done!
I agree. Have you checked out Izzy Swan's youtube channel. He has some pretty awesome stuff too.
There was a young kid that did this and was giving out the angles and degrees but can’t find it , hope it’s still up
The most accurate title i've seen on youtube.
Not 100% accurate. He also used glue and some fancy heated tape. 😅
Its big
Those items along with many others are what we call the tools of craftmanship. Along with scars, he who has the most of these, wins.
Especially the "odd" part. Wonderful pattern.
C.N.C machinery,, First in the precision metal WORK Engineering then The Machinery was made to cut wood to the same tolerances.. C.N.C machinery makes a master of a Student!!!!
Okay but if the ball is made out of wood, why is the music made out of metal? 🤔
Oblivion776 It does have a few staples in it. 🤷🏻♂️🤘🏼
🤯
Because metal is what makes the world go round! 🤘 😄 🤘
LOL
Lol
I love this great Plywood ball. Great fun! Thank you! Cynthia McLaglen
Cynthia McLaglen Thank you Cynthia, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I try not to take it too seriously, after all it is a big ball made of plywood. 😀
The music and the craftsmanship makes me want to build something in my shed. I don't have a shed. The music and the craftsmanship makes me want to build a shed.
PhantomFilmAustralia 😁👍🏼
PhantomFilmAustralia Dude that is some sharp delivery.
You sir made my day
Respect from Poland!
So, it is 3 weeks later, did you build your shed yet, and is it a big ball?
I have been woodworking for nearly 50 years. This is one of the coolest things i have seen! Excellent
Watch some japanese masters
You’ve not seen my wood

I never would have thought plywood could be so beautiful! The circles that are created when sanding are incredible. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Kev 👍🏼
Your Welcome 👍😎👍@@ODDBALLGALLERYKeithWilliams
This is so cool! Loved watching it! Thank you for sharing this! Pam😄
pam carr Thanks for watching Pam !
I wouldn't mind longer videos, you're a great maker and we could all learn something from you.
Bucky Fuller would be impressed- great precision cutting!
Wow what a work of art! I love how you can see the patterns emerging after 2 mins!
BlackStarEOP Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Amazing Precision cuts, I can't even miter chair railing without a gap. True craftsman.
Jennifer Osborne 👍🏼 Thanks
To say 'beautiful project' is an understatement. This is more like fine musical instrument quality. This is art. Well done.
AMEN!
The circles that appear from round in off the triangles is totally beyond cool. Great work!
This is such a beautiful work of art. The hours taken to produce this is extraordinary, I played it on .25 speed , just so I could see how you did it, but even that wasn’t slow enough. I applaud you, it’s just magnificent the detail and the intricacy of it all. Kudos.xx
Peaches Jackofski Thanks 👍🏼
Keith, you truly are a master ! Thanks for showing us !
orchidorio Thanks 👍🏼
I think my favorite thing is how this wasnt drawn out 20 minutes watching you cut every triangle in real time. It's a simple beautiful concept
Drew Rabbit 👍🏼
I'm a fifth generation master carpenter and thought I'd seen it all. You just blew my mind. Very nice workshop setup.
Perfect song choice and what a cool design surprise in that ball! Nice work!
I know nothing about woodworking so when the patterns started to appear while you were sanding the outside of the ball...completely amazed me! I assumed they were added manually to make it look more interesting. Beautiful project! Thanks for uploading.
Not added, it's the layers of the plywood showing through because the plywood is being shaped as a sphere.
owntone5 👆🏼He is correct 👆🏼
I once made a turkey by tracing my hand and adding colored paper. Lol. Fantastic skills never thought of plywood being adaptive to other projects.
my brother made a boat out of plywood 20 years ago and it still floats. If properly utilized plywood is a highly versatile material.
Thought the little ball at the end was going off the table for sure then it just turns around and leaves. Awesome job!!
darkking222 it’s sentient, it’s gonna steal our jobs and fuck our wives.
Mad Skills Keith!!! And fantastic job on the video editing too. Many don't truly understand how much time goes into recording and editing the video of a project like this, hats off to you Sir. Thank you for sharing.
Kevin Kendrick Thanks Kevin, This was my first video. I have a lot of other weird ideas, so I hope to keep the videos “rolling”
That was awesome I tripped out on the design when he smoothed it out. Also really random KZhead recommendation.
jeff the killer Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Who would have thought this could be made,it looks stunning,BRAVO.
Dude, who would have thought, so much beauty in plywood. 👊👊👊
No kidding! At first, I assumed that was a painted design, but this is truly Michael Angelo finding David in a block of marble!
I am deeply impressed! This is one guy that knows his math!!
Wayne Shaw 👍🏼
...And has the practical skills to realize the project. Maybe he's more of a polymath!
Outstanding vision, craftsmanship, and brilliantly video-produced. Not a dull moment. Bravo!
stegokitty Thanks 👍🏼
My internal dialog: “Wow that looks awesome, hard to believe the initial cuts were so accurate” “Noo! Don’t round it off, it looks too cool” “Whoa 🤯”
Dude, kinda genius! Your shop equipment looks pro asf and well maintained. And anyone else get a small amount of anxiety when baby ball was rolling so close to the edge? Oh and pre-sanding the ball looks like a deathstar.
Wow that is a great demonstration of comprehension of geometry! Great job !!
Utilisateurpasvalide Thanks 👍🏼
As a professional cabinet/furniture builder I can get stuck in the same thinking day in and day out and focus on efficiency and making money. This was fun to watch. When someone works for years at woodworking you realize most things work from the same ideas and experience but the “out of the box” thinking here in this video is impressive and fun to watch. Great idea and great skill to make it all come together. I really enjoyed watching this.
Mark Spears I know what you mean. I have been in the custom woodworking biz for 25 years. I was drowning in a sea of raised panel doors and crown moulding. I had to find a way to separate my love of woodworking from the day to day “get it done” business side. It feels good to build things with no real purpose once in a while.
Sooo gorgeous, creating the geodesic globe and the beautiful transformation. Love it, TY for sharing.
All video titles should be as simple as this.
"Guy's balls" would be even better.😅

The little ball I thought for sure was going just drop and explode! That is the coolest wood working project I have seen, ever! Gold star for you!! 💫
Firstname Lastname is allowed Thank you 👍🏼
One of the coolest things ever! Thx for the great video!
Stephen Mattison 👍🏼👍🏼
Dang. That transformation on the lathe was the coolest thing I've ever seen.
Yeah, how does he do that?
@@cathybenson5119 --Obviously, black magic.
The lathe itself was pretty interesting.
@@rcb3921 Yes so smart and simple! Looks a lot easier than when Frank Howarth makes spheres "by hand" in the lathe :)
Who else was panicking when the little ball rolled to the edge? xD
*raises hand*
The Viking Woodsmith I did ✋🏼...it was supposed to stop when it hit the big ball. What you don’t see is me running around the workbench ready to make the diving catch.
lol i think its strong enough to sourvive the fall, wood glue at this surface amount is pretty strong.
@@hyperhektor7733 But it would certainly make an impression and mar the finish.
I bet that took quite a number of takes!
I had to watch this again and pause several times. I am so tempted to try this.
Alan Monteith 👍🏼
I like the double Dewalts all most as much as plywood ball. That lathe is pretty darn cool as well. Nice work.
I agree...the ball is just the by product of my desire to design and build tools. 😀
I thought the same thing.... crown molding super machine! Lol
Sitting here alone on Thanksgiving. You just made my day. Thanks.
aj Willow to bad for you to be alone but I have relative that are terrible people.....I moved out west to be alone.
deported from cal, now in mex goin on 9 christmases alone..! all because a cop wanted to dress like a hooker and i took the bait
Damn hooker cops! What are they thinkin'! You just made my day today. Good luck to you.
pookie one Why weren't you documented? You can't blame the police for this when you were in our country illegally AND doing illegal stuff to boot. That's just asking for it.
Remember....you are never alone
Fantastic! That mitre saw setup is amazing!
I liked that too. I'll have to buy another Dewalt.
Don't quite know how this ended up on my KZhead play list but I'm glad it did. Truely masterful sir. Cuddos!!! 👍👍👍
[Whispers:] "kudos"
D T Thanks 👍🏼. The algorithm thought you should watch it.😀
That was like magic, the patterns came out of nowhere! Really beautiful creation!🤗
I have over 100,000 hours in a cabinetshop and just when I think I have seen it all ??? ABSOLUTELY AMAZING WORK thanks
This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen done with wood...Awesome!
I don't think I've ever heard real music on a KZhead video before. Most refreshing!
Charles Moore We are in a small group of people who like the music. 😀👍🏼
What a delight! I just recently discovered the odd beauty of plywood building a Ugears kit. I love the way you ended this with a little one rolling in. They belong in a fine arts gallery. :)
Lisa Schuster Thanks Lisa, the beauty was always in there, it was just trapped inside 2 dimensional boundaries. 😀
that is pretty incredible.
That is probably one of the coolest things I have watched in a long time....👍👍
HELLA-COOL !!!!! Kudos to you for the video and end result!!
Carol Lockhart Thanks👍🏼
That is awesome! Great work. Thanks for the video.
rudi joris You are welcome, I hope to have more videos soon. 👍🏼
Mind blown. Unbelievably awesome! I would have never thought of having two chop saws next to each other like that.
Yes! I'm a big fan of assembly lines and organizing tasks into blocks. This was an eye opener. You're only limited by your pocketbook.
There's some truly fascinating geometry in there, involving the icosahedral symmetry group. And what an amazingly beautiful result!! Fred
ffggddss Thanks Fred 👍🏼
@@ODDBALLGALLERYKeithWilliams Quite welcome! My grandfather worked in wood - he was a pattern-maker for Studebaker in South Bend. He died a few years before I was born, so I never got to meet him. But my dad seems to have picked up several of the skills; he'd occasionally build something simple of wood, although it had nothing to do with his chosen career (meteorology; numerical weather prediction). So I appreciate a well-executed woodworking project. I'm also a mathematician/physicist (retired), so I appreciate the geometric beauty of this design. Fred
ffggddss My dad was a machinist at Caterpillar tractor. I learned about precision measuring from him . I spent a lot of time working with both metal and wood growing up. I didn’t gain a real appreciation for math until I was older. I use a combination of simple math and trial and error most of the time.
@@ODDBALLGALLERYKeithWilliams Well, whatever you used, to work this out, keep doing it, cause it's working! Fred
Have you seen Sauron's Eye by Olivier Gomis?
Killer project and FINALLY some decent music in a wood working video.
Richard Harris Welcome to the brotherhood 🤘🏼you are now part of a select group. (People who like the music)
1) The music is awesome. 2) You're a clamp champ. 3) This is probably the most far out, amazing thing I've ever seen. I never would have guessed that the designs were just the plywood colors. That is awesome!
I didn’t know how hard I need a plywood ball!
I’m sorry. But you’ll have to wait until I have mine. 😇
I need one too
Keith, your work is amazing. You are AMAZING!
Thank you👍🏼 I’m working on some more videos during this time off.
@@ODDBALLGALLERYKeithWilliams I'll love to watch them.

Far out super cool man. Love how have two miters set up for it! cheers, Rob
This is one of the best videos I've seen on working with wood. I want that ball!! Fantastic!
Carol Coates Thanks 👍🏼
There is another masterpice by the name Sauron's Eye on you tube made by the 22 y.old wood turner who has surpassed many with his unbelievable genius. His name is Olivier Gomis.
Absolutely beautiful. I love that didn't stain or paint it and embraced the natural patterns of the wood
Kuuipo Randall 👍🏼
That's possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen on KZhead!
The part at 2:00 when all the circles start emerging from the levels of the plywood, that's priceless!
Beautiful! Great job.
Manuel Cores 👍🏼
So many dedicated machine setups! I love it!
Andrew Brannan 👍🏼
Saw that gap at first and thought, “how could he have mismeasured...oooooh that’s clever!”
Talk about knowing your Angles. This is the coolest things I've seen in a while.
This video is far cooler than I thought it would be. Well done old boy!

You are an artist!!! Wow!!
No "fake news" here. That's a giant ball of plywood. Got to justify buying all of those tools somehow. Well done.
Dude! Video liked, I subbed and damn, that is so cool, my hat is not only off, but thrown several feet away from my current location! That is probably one of the coolest, most ambitious and unique projects I have ever seen. Looking forward to more!

Yes I was thinking, wow he's got some pretty cool gear.
Mr. Mike Moore Thanks Mike, I have had a cabinet shop for 25+ years , so a lot of the tools I already had available. I built the ball lathe from surplus parts over about a year.
@@ODDBALLGALLERYKeithWilliams Incredible work. I figured that anybody that could make that ball probably also made the equipment to produce it.
Love seeing people creating awesome art. Subscribed. 😎✌

I've watched this video many times since the initial upload, and each time is just as rewarding.
Pistachio Thanks. 👍🏼 So as an experienced watcher, how do you feel my new video compares to this one?
@@ODDBALLGALLERYKeithWilliams I liked the lack of music in the last one. I loved the knots. Nice domino moment that showed really how much wood you used. I don't know why but I really wanted to see it rounded out. Not that it should be...just that I wanted to see it, but structurally, I know it's a different animal.
Pistachio Thanks for the feedback. I have a lot more ball ideas, but there are only so many ways I can show the construction process. This was the first ball I have made that wasn’t rounded out.

So what are the other two
This is freaking incredible.

Wow. Love it.
Peter Brown Thanks I appreciate that. 👍🏼
make a resin version of this !
came for the ball, stayed for the music
This is amazing mad skills
Bel Rick I think we are in the minority on the music.🤘🏼
Very cool! I have made a few, but they had equal bevel angles on all sides of each face - resulting in intersection circles that are centered on each face. I like the off center circles and the patterns on yours resulting from the symmetry.
By the way, I have added you to my featured channels. I like your work.
Steve, yours are absolutely awesome as well. You were my original inspiration. Keep up the great work.

I take it your wife doesn’t go on KZhead
You've been married too long. ...and you're getting forgetful. And I think it's a really cool ball too.
@James Gilbey he really got involved right at the end of the wedding day.
I’ve met his wife and I concur
I think this is how the Death Star was made.
And its parts were assembled by Darth Vader using just the Force ⚛️
Then where did they mount the lathe and sander? Inside a hollow planet? :)
But made of metal!
Mmm, I don't think so
But Darth Vader was not present when it was made, and no Wookies were harmed in the production of this video.
