I have just picked shape of continents, not focused of countries. It's just a decorative item not a real world. So please don't get angry😡 if your country or island is not there.😅

Tracing paper
Pencil
Fomic sheet
All purpose adhesive
Vaseline petroleum jelly
Epoxy resin (1.25 liter)
Blue pigment
Disposable cups
Sandpaper (grit 320,1000,2000)
Rubbing compound
Carnauba wax
Air dry clay.
Acrylic paint
Tools:
Scissor
Brushes
Wire cutter
Polisher power tool.

  • Wow! That's beautiful. My almost 2 year old is obsessed with the moon. I think I am going to use your tutorial but make a moon and maybe even sun and planets. I have two gallons of epoxy resin and a lot of pigments, were bought for a different project but this is better! Thank you!! 😁

    • If you are going to do Earth, then yes, go for the transparent resin, but otherwise for the moon and other planets consider using a cheaper material if you are simply going to paint over it. edit: If you are a Lord if the Rings fan, a good idea for the transparent stuff is to make one of the lost seeing stones.

  • Nice idea for someone not looking for detail. But for a globe or map enthusiast, there are a lot of missing details of island chains, continents and archipelagos: 1. The UK 2. Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia 3. Caribbean 4. Madagascar 5. Antarctica 6. Sri Lanka 7. Japan 8. Australia

  • I think you could also use plaster of paris to make a smooth spherical mould based on the globe, fill it with resin after applying the continent decals, you'd get a perfect sphere; you can re-use the mould later, and not have destroyed your original globe. Nice basic idea tho.

Take mouse/rat traps for example, it's all the same thing, per say, but they're all different in a way and hundreds upon thousands of different patents by different people...

  • Awsome work ... Mold clay on the continents for mountains and such 'without peaks', then harden a thin shell of clear over the whole globe, then paint in clouds, add the 3D peaks in clay, paint then another layer of clear. u now have atmosphere and 3d Clouds.

    • Thank you. I didn't calculate it but I think it's near about 1 kg. It's my hobby to do that stuff. I have only make a single piece and then start thinking to make some another thing. So I do not sell them. Inside there are some dimples, so I stick tape to make the surface smooth.
