In this weeks episode, Reuben tests the Next Gen V6 Ranger against the bi turbo Ford Everest. Both vehicles from Ford are very popular amongst consumers, with 4473 new Ford Rangers sold in February 2023 alone, and the Ford Everest out selling the Prado in some months!

I have the Bi-Turbo Next Gen Everest and SO many people told me I should have gone the V6, I tow an extended horse float and have found it super impressive and don't feel the need to go for the V6, thanks again!! This totally validates my decision and quashes their over-enthusiastic arguments!!

  • Great video thanks Reuben!! I’d love to see a comparison video on the ram 1500 hemi and 2500 Cummins towing a 3.5t or bigger van. There’s plenty of big families with big vans that are torn on spending the extra for the big truck. Be good to see the difference with ease of towing and fuel consumption. Thanks mate! Your a legend!!

  • Good review thanks. I drove both a V6 Ranger and 2.0 bi-turbo Everest. They are both good engines but the V6 was certainly a lot nicer to drive, even without towing anything. The bi-turbo just felt courser and sounded a bit gaspy or airy while the V6 was noticeably smoother and quieter. For an extra few grand, few months delivery time and 1L/100 more, I'll take the better drive, performance and resale of the V6 every day.

Helps me get a grip on what it'd actually be like in the car with caravan behind, much more so that the usual manufacture stats like kW and Nm. Don't want or need a Ute and will probably go with the Everest (liking the V6 Sport but the bi-Turbo is looks pretty good). Cheers.

I have though about a 300mm chassis extension on the V6 for longevity and hard tracks. But I would get a 2L if it can handle touring Oz with 1 tonne in the back full time.

  • Considering the downside of the Everest seemed to be the suspension while towing on unsealed roads, do you think the 2ltr bi-turbo would be the best of both worlds?

    @carliecumner2100@carliecumner2100Ай бұрын
    • The 2.0-liter bi-turbo engine in the Ford Everest offers a good balance of power and efficiency, and it may indeed provide a favorable towing experience on unsealed roads compared to larger engines. While engine choice is essential for towing performance, suspension tuning also plays a crucial role. The suspension setup of the Everest, including factors such as spring rates, shock absorbers, and overall damping characteristics, can significantly impact the vehicle's handling and ride comfort while towing. It's essential to consider how well the suspension is calibrated to handle the specific demands of towing on unsealed roads.

      @dmw4x4@dmw4x4Ай бұрын
  • At the end of the day the 4cyl Bi-turbo might be just better on fuel etc than the V6 but it's the long term reliability that you really got to take into consideration. Anyone will tell you that if you plan on keeping the car for many years to come then the V6 option is the way to go. All 4 cyl engine regardless of of running on Petrol or Diesel all have a life limit and that's usually 150,000 Kms. We are already seeing plenty 2L Bi-turbo engines having major problems which is the real reason Ford changed to the V6.

    • 150,000km?! Jump on carsales and you’ll find so many with nearly twice that still going strong. If anything I’d be more nervous about getting this V6. It’s a new engine for Ford and unproven with a few documented failures already. The bi turbo on the other hand has been used for a few years now and has proven itself enough for Ford to continue its use and development.

Sure the gvm has plenty of room to add weight, what about the rear axle loading, how much room is there to add 300kg plus of load on the tow ball and in turn the rear axle. Imo the rear axle loading is going to be the limiting factor and it's a factor no one seems to talk about .

  • Continues to highlight the fact that these 4x4 SUVs just can't do heavy towing due to the small payload capacities when you factor in going away with the family on holidays. Eg the Everest payload is 662kg..... 10% downball mass = 270 kg, factor in 300kg for the family body mass..... you've only got 92kg left, without any accessories, luggage, etc. They just aren't suitable for this job.

Factors such as driving conditions, terrain, and individual preferences can all influence these opinions. It's best to consider multiple sources and reviews to get a well-rounded understanding of a vehicle's performance. Ultimately, your own test drive and assessment will provide the most accurate impression for your specific needs and preferences.

  • In theory it should require the same amount of energy to move the mass (caravan) along the distance. Hence the fuel (energy) consumed should be about the same. The difference should be in the how hard the engine will be working and the impact on the mechanicals. Of course minor differences due to torque curves, gear ratios, tire tread, chasis, suspension and road conditions will occur.
