In this episode we show you how easy it is to make a carpeted floor to fix items such as fridge slides and other storage solutions which requires no drilling or bolting into the tub. Best of all it removes in seconds, so you can still use the tray as intended!
I show you how to easily shape, carpet and install this simple solution, so come along as we show you how!
For those interested, we also work through a few simple mods to improve the usability of the tub as well as our fridge slide and battery solution. I was also going to run through some other accessories such as racks and storage options - however we will leave this for a future episode, as I have a few other ideas....

  • Your workmanship is top tier mate nice work. I've considered making a false floor as I didn't want to permanently mount draws/fridge.

    • Great idea I want to do a similar idea with the false floor I've been down the road with the draw set-ups and find them just to heavy and restricted the trouble I have is accessing things up front of tub hence I am looking at a false floor that can pull out on some sort of sliding set up.

      @craigingram-cg6si@craigingram-cg6si5 ай бұрын
    • @@craigingram-cg6si a slide out would work extremely well. If I had the height, I would have done that. It's not that hard to do and there are some really good heavy duty runners available these days that can accommodate the weight even when extended out 👍

  • I found that to be a great help. I have a tub rack from Uneek 4X4, but you cannot get these any more it cost me twice the price of the flimsy kings unit but they will be fine, for a support to hold up your tub rack and tent check out bespoke 4X4 in Melbourne I have the PX3 and it has been a great bit of gear and I will be transferring the rack over to the Next gen in Feb or March but I will need to get the new support for about $500. I look forward to your rack install.

    • I actually really like the Triple M support we used with the King's rack. I would check them out also as it isn't as intrusive as the Bespoke version for the Next Gen. Both are great companies to deal with though 👍

      @WorkLivePlay@WorkLivePlay4 ай бұрын

  • I am mounting my slide to Marine King Starboard. I needed a spacer bc my tailgate cover sits too high. I am using 1 inch marine Starboard. Do you think this will work well? Its essentially marine plastic lumber that is very durable and water resistant. It will be a bit heavy but I am either using Rivnuts to anchor it to the bed or using a rubber backer and leaving it unattached

  • Thanks for the content. Nice setup. FYI, your Ecoflow power supply is Lithium Ion opposed to LifePo4 so unless you can't afford the space your spending money on a battery chemistry which has 1/4 to 1/8 of the lifespan. Thanks for the content. Cheers

    @cyclemoto8744@cyclemoto87445 ай бұрын
    • I had the River Pro before the series 2 came out. Agree, these days you would go the newer unit for the LiFePO4 battery. Otherwise it's been a great little tool for camping 👍

      @WorkLivePlay@WorkLivePlay4 ай бұрын
    • I've been looking at the eco flow $1899 for fridge and one battery recently, as this would suit us as we dont want a permanent fridge in the vehicle.and your saying lithium ion is old school? Maybe I should wait a bit longer?

      @AU_4591@AU_45912 ай бұрын
    • @@AU_4591 Everything is old school if you're living in the future ;). Neither lithium ion or lithium iron phosphate (LifePo4) are old schoo. The former has a higher density ( same batteries used in cell phones) and the later has a lower density (thus larger for the same power) but lasts longer and is safer. A single fridge and some portable devices can't be charged with a 100ah LifePo4 battery without issue and can be recharged via solar very easily. Assuming you're in the US, you could buy a battery, battery monitor, solar blanket and inverter for half the price of the EcoFlow. Cheers

  • So the cut out needs to be 1200 x 1445 and that will take into effect the carpet rolling round the edge?

    @dondon9829@dondon98293 ай бұрын
  • For the stiff carpet either sit it in the sun if it’s a nice day for an hour or put it in front of the heater and it will soften it up so it’s much easier to work with.

  • No concern of water getting onto the battery and fridge when the vehicle is in the rain? I know you have the cover, but those sliding ones on the Ranger aren't waterproof?

    @impulse3257@impulse32575 ай бұрын
    • I'm not too worried about water ingress at this point but have been cautious. Given the EcoFlow is raised up off the floor, it should not be impacted by any standing water if it was to get in. That said, we have been through some intense rain over the past few weeks on our current trip up to Queensland and it's still bone dry inside. The new model roller shutters seem to seal fairly well. We do remove when we aren't using it in any case 😉

  • For the sake of a few rivnuts I would just fix the fridge slide to the tub. Chuck rubber mat on other side if you think the tub liner is too slippery. If you are doing any 4WDing or have an accident you really want the fridge properly tied down. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a false floor if nothing is actually fixed down.

    @georgethomas6541@georgethomas65415 ай бұрын
    • Many eons ago I ran a setup kinda like this and I just chucked a strap over it. These days my gear is rivnutted to the bed, but the old solution worked just fine if I was only heading out every now and again.

      @Alan.livingston@Alan.livingston5 ай бұрын
    • I do agree. If it was in a wagon I would 100% bolt down and I was pretty committed to putting some rivnuts in for the slide. The issue is we often don't want it in there and if you do have dirt in, you almost want to plug the larger holes you need to make in the tub liner. I've been known to pick up the odd bit of turf etc. On the way home 😅
