The world’s BEST restored M3 CSL?

Where do we start on such an iconic car, and such an involved process.....
Join us for a transformation on what's turned out to be probably one of the very best 'restored' BMW M3 CSL's in the world!
This amazing 2003 E46 M3 CSL has 88,000 miles and in 2019 had a brand-new factory-assembled 'crate' Engine (part number 11.00.7.833.675) installed by BMW at a cost of nearly £20k.
Then in 2020, it had a bare-metal respray by multi-award-winning Andy Finch of Spikes Vintage Restoration:
spikesvintagerestoration.com/
So, it was no surprise that the Underside needed to match the incredible condition of everything else.
The owner turned to us at @RedishMotorsportbmw and in 2021 tasked us with creating the best Underside Restored CSL we've done to date.
** THIS VIDEO WAS RECORDED IN 2021 **
Within reason, this has turned out to be a no-expense, almost 'blank-cheque' Underside Restoration on one of BMW's most sought-after M-power models.
As you can see, the underside of this CSL was looking particularly tired in many areas due to dirt and road grime build-up over the past 18 years, but also the level of surface corrosion which has been taking hold of key chassis points couldn't continue.
All of these areas need addressing on most vehicles if you want them to survive in a hassle-free way, but especially when you consider the rarity and special nature of the M3 CSL.
We've restored several M3 CSL's over the years and more examples can be found on our KZhead Channel.
--------------
Did you see the 'Back To The Future' reference in the video?
If so, drop a comment with the time stamp so we know you were paying attention!
--------------
Notes:
Even though the vehicle has some (bolt-on) performance modifications like KW Clubsport Suspension, AP Racing Brakes, and a BMW Motorsport 3.91 CWP with Wavetrac LSD, it was decided that the chassis must remain original.
This is due to any potential future sale of this CSL to any worldwide buyer who may want to remove the bolt-on upgrades and have an OEM-restored CSL.
That meant NO RACP reinforcement.
The thought process behind this is that it already had the new BMW RACP (41.11.7.000.246) installed by a BMW dealer and we know more about the new RACP 41.11.7.000.246 than you could dream of.
We've fitted more than most places in the world, have dissected both original and new RACP's, studied them, R&D'd new products, and adapted processes for the new replacement panel for longer than you could imagine.
There isn't anything we don't know about E46 RACP.
In the UK, we are the pioneers of the modern E46 RACP Repair & Reinforcement Process including Load Relief systems.
We've been dealing with E46 RACP on a daily basis since 2011 and always have a 9+ month lead time for our E46 RACP work.
So, before you comment, please take a few minutes to look us up and see our well-respected E46 RACP history which stretches back over a decade!
Whatever you think is right or wrong for an E46 RACP - it does not matter to this owner.
So, thanks in advance for your E46 RACP concerns (of which I'm sure there will be many) but we won't be losing any sleep over it.
(Of course, if you have a similar project you'd like us to take on, we can discuss all sorts of RACP solutions for your vehicle).
See our RACP page here for more details:
www.redish-motorsport.com/E46M...
So, sit back and enjoy 2 hours of us discussing and updating on the progress of this Underside Restoration from start to finish.
If you have something similar you'd like us to work on (it doesn't have to be as detailed a project as this one) then do get in touch.
-----------------
NUMBERS:
This Underside Restoration took 194 labour hours.
Just the Parts costs for this Underside Restoration were almost £31,000 alone.
Then add in Materials & Consumables and you get an idea of the value of a project like this.

  • 1. Amazing 2. Please start the vehicle at the end, I speak for everyone when I say we would all climax after hearing the engine run. 3. This type of restoration is much more valuable than buying a brand new car. 4. Thank you for this content.

  • I live in western Canada and I always thought that because we have so much snow and then they salt the streets every year that we must have the worst vehicle corrosion and rust anywhere in the world. But it's just no where near the amount that is in the UK and that whole area near the sea and with the rain and wet all the time (At least that's what i expect is why it's SO bad there). It always amazes me how much the damage is with cars from there! I guess because it's in the very atmosphere or something like that that it rots out the insides of everything as well as under sealers and in joints etc. with cars here we get terrible problems with rust eating away where ever the snow filled with salt sticks to the car and is flung into. Where ever those areas are is where it rots. But as shown on so many UK cars it EVERYWHERE! I do wish we had Redish Motorsports shop here though as you are THE BEST! and it doesn't seem like your prices are quite as insane as here. But I could be wrong on that. Thank you for the great video and sorry for the very long comment.

  • Incredible. Setting quite the high bar. I managed FA-18 restoration/repair and got to fly the product for 7 of my 19 years in the cockpit. If I were still in the biz, I would make the techs watch this (and likely catch flak for ‘gold plating’ lol). Such an amazing amount of work that could go to hell quite rapidly with ‘one loose nut’ behind the wheel (and I pray not in this case!). Truly amazing work; much to be proud of.

  • Unbelievable job guys, well done. Just a couple of things: the POR15 metal prep. is in my opinion the only thing they do that actually works and is worth using. However, try and get hold of some Fertan and give it a try, it really is the best rust converter out there, and the only one I have found that works well on clean bare steel. In fact, I( have plenty of it left over, I'll post you a sample when I get a minute, see what you think. If you reply to this comment and tell me who to make it FAO. Well done again.
