LAST EPISODE WITH THIS BMW ALMOST A YEAR PRIOR!
• Reviving a BMW E46 Che...
In todays video, we will fixing an ENTIRE LIST of problems on my friend and coworker Erik's 2001 BMW E46 325i with a manual transmission. We start with a full inspection of the car, and then we get into diagnosing each of the individual issues Erik has noted. Its a lot! We get it all looked over, create a bitchin write up and estimate, get a monster list of parts coming, and get this thing looking and running tip top again. A few of the jobs I go over... Bumper fitment, hood latch, broken electric mirror, broken window regulator, leaking power steering lines, coolant flush, trunk latch diagnosis, tire repair, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, alternator replacement, headlight lenses, kidney grill replacement, fog light installation, it was a BIG list! We also crushed it on an interior detail and wash.
This video took a lot of time and effort, so I hope you all enjoy!

  • Unfortunately, this is what does in many E46s. This car was in good shape, it just needed a few maintenance items. If your local shop charges $4000, it may be more than the car is worth. Your $75 an hour is way under indies and dealer prices. You are giving excellent service at a great price and cleaning things as you go! This will help keep some older BMWs on the road. The E46 is a great looking car.

    • BMW in Minneapolis is $250/hr now! Last time I needed anything from them it was $100…$75 for quality work is honestly too low; I get for friends and family but don’t undercut your skills especially when a good mechanic is hard to find these days🔧

    • thanks for the comment and replies everyone! I agree its quite low, however Erik is a great friend and I dont know how I would feel charging more. With that being said, this job total was over $1300 in parts alone. Its crazy how expensive labor rates at the dealership are getting, I dont agree with it one bit. I can guarantee you the technicians rates are not increasing at the same rate either. Thank you all for the support and awesome comments!

  • quick tip from someone who’s working with these… let’s say wonderful parking brakes (thanks Mercedes) on a daily basis: put the brake rotors on and adjust the brake shoes until you can’t spin the rotor by hand anymore, after that loosen them up by about 3 turns. Like that you’ll get pretty much the „optimal“ setting for your parking brakes, no matter if the brake rotors or the brake shoes are new or not. Still an awesome video though!

I do the same approach of prioritizing importance of repairs. Was a service writer for 10 years and it was a method that my customers really appreciated. The tamper dot could also be from a LCM swap that wasn’t programmed. PA Soft can scan each module and verify mileage and vin. But I’d suspect it was the cluster as they’re known to fail. I have a guy in CA that can do vin and mileage correction if your customer is interested. Keep up the great work!

  • Work done with clinical precision. In todays world, almost all the car dealership workshops are in a 'replace dont repair' spree. However, its nice to see you moving away from that mindset and repairing what can be repaired and replacing only whats required. The detailing is immaculate. I credit myself with the detailing of my car, I have been doing it for past 15 years. However, when it comes to washing my car , I need not more than 2 gallons of water in a bucket and thats enough for me to clean my car from the outside to inside.

  • This video is pure gold. First of all, you got a new subscriber. Second, I just bought an E46 330 Ci 2002 from my neighbor, the car has only 76k Km (47k miles) and it was parked on his garage for a few years because he crashed it, and the only real damage was aesthetically but he didn't wanted to spend money to fix it (I'm from Venezuela and the cost is even higher to fix a BMW here). So I saw an opportunity and decided to buy it for a bargain. I got a mechanic to change all the fluids, the fuel pump and filters, I changed the battery, the tires and the car started and runs so freaking smoothly. I have it now at the bodyshop for the hood (which was the most affected part from the crash), a full paint job and detailing. My only concern is to find a good mechanic that knows what he's doing around a car like this and I think the best approach is to just do a lot of the stuff myself. Anyways, I just wanted to thank you for the level of detail in this video and everything you did to the car, it helps me know better the car I bought and for that I'm grateful! Keep up the good work and I wish you great success. PD: excuse me for my English, not my native language! Edit: so I wrote this like 20 min into the video, afterwards it just gets better. Amazing job

  • Fantastic video mate! as soon as I saw you were taking the time to detail your friend's car I thumbed up and subscribed lol. Shows good character. A few tips for you: 1) Acetone dissolves crazy clue's 2) Always check where your beloved dog is when you handle Antifreeze, its sweet so if he licks a small spill, it will kill him. (I had a wonderful German Shepard who was my buddy when I worked on my BMW's) 3) Just add the word "labor" some place on the line entry for your breakdown invoice. 4) The missing clip for the fog lamp you can get cheap by the bag. Other than that, keep up the good work !!! great job !

  • A new phrase that has permeated the auto repair world is “mechanically totaled”. Repairs exceeding the value of car. Monetary value is one thing, but, emotional value is another. I have spent twice the value on repairs of my E39M5, and it was totally worth it. I assume this E46 is the same. Good work repairing the car.

    @paulvarrieur976@paulvarrieur9766 ай бұрын
    • E39 M5, that’s my dream BMW! If you ever sell it, consider me will ya? I like that term, I’ve totally ran across cars that should be destined for the scrapper, but e39s and e46s are worth saving In my opinion

  • one thing that shops/mechanics don't do is advice the customer. for example, my mechanic changed all shocks and said to him "hey if the car needs some parts while you have all out, let me know the price and I give green light or not", because I knew rear shocks were almost needing to replace the dust covers. after a couple months, dust covers split and I thought "i told that mdf to tell me". I went to youtube, saw how it is replaced, went to buy the parts and changed them myself. no issues. so, not cleaning gearbox or not replacing other parts "while-we-are-here" that's not new to me.
