For a moment I thought you were going to say all the processing was done on the connected phone and the watch was a just a screen outputting stuff... that would be stupid wouldn't it?
I think the Delay would be the big problem. A Signal to the phone and Signal back would take way too Long
Yes, that would drain your phone and watch batteries having to constantly stream video between them, not to mention the delay
Exactly my first thought 😂
RF transmitters may take more power than modern processors. Especially when they have to work throughout.

Battery is a major parameter while buying a smartwatch, kudos to Oneplus for building something like this, it's great to see how it all started for them with Oneplus Watch 1 and how it's going right now.
Exact. What holds me back from buying an iWatch is their useless battery time. I won’t buy it until it last at least two days.
I would also say battery is major for smartphones, together with price. How can Apple continues with Pro series (not Max) that are so poor in terms of battery, recharging time and price? I got one plus 12, I have 14 Pro, seems to see the present future and past. For people that are tech enthusiast and want to have new product every 1-2 years and a great price performances, Chinese products are the only way. One Plus is making everything too good for the price. No way.
i bought this thing the day of launch not knowing a single thing about it, as my first smart watch ever just cause If what OnePlus is doing with their phone and new earbuds are anything to go by, this should be a really great piece of hardware as well. You wouldn't prefer wireless charging???????? amazing
@@PedroSantos-fh3oe oh absolutely! I thought the charging puck was wireless to the watch (with magnets) but the cable for the puck itself is USB C and not attached to the long wire!
@@sensiblewheels it's not wireless, you can clearly see the 4 pins that connect to the watch
@@PedroSantos-fh3oeyes if it had wireless charging it would be great. But you don't see the benefits with having usb c. It's like you wouldn't have to carry a million different cables along with you. Just the one c type which can charge my phone/headphones/watch/laptop/beard trimmer. It is so freaking convenient
@@xeon2k8ah yes, you're right. That's a bummer but acceptable if it has fast charging specially because it's very convenient to just carry the USB C puck
Its architecture is super interesting as we just got passed multiprocessor systems in college and it always felt like something that you'd almost never see in practice. Guess not
Wearing Mobvoi Ticwatch pro 5 from 11.2023 (Android wear 3.5) , on average they live 4-5 days. They also have a very interesting solution, 2 screens instead of 2 chips
2:45 "I've been that guy", Marques you've already BEEN THAT guy, at least one ios and one android in pocket, definitely THE guy.
Marques and Michael Fisher.
I really wish someone would make a newer generation watch that uses Transflective display technology. My Amazfit Bip lasts 45 days before charging is needed because it draws very little power because the screen can be viewed in the sun, in fact the brighter it is outside the better it works. And it is backlit for night use.
Nice
It may not be the same tech but the concept is very similar to e-ink displays. Zero idea why nothing uses that any more.
Agreed. I miss my Pebble 2. Seems like the Garmin Instinct is the best replacement for it
They do, it's called Garmin fenix. 10 to 15 days of normal usage, 5 to 7 tracking GPS activities.
Ticwatch Pros still do this
Ihave the Amazfit T-rex2 for over a year now. It does not have the option for answering calls or replying messages. But I got over 7 days with all options on. And if I turn off always on display and th option to show the notification when I turn my hand I can reach to 20 days without charging. And it is tracking my workout, my sleep. Breathing and also heart rate.
I got the Huawei Watch GT4 for USD 182 and with the always-on screen, this thing lasts 5-6 days of battery life with all tracking on. Love the real classic look of my watch and not the middle-ground look of being modern and classic at the same time.
My GT2 is still doing Monday to Sunday evening (down to about 28-30% power then). A quick charge and back on the wrist again 😂
Made me laugh when he said something new and it turned out to be battery. Gt3 user here
@@kojowiredu same mine! i got it almost 3 years and the same, and i have heart rate always on. Xiaomi also had nice battery life, but they were way too buggy.
I have GT2 and it last a week... i even mod it to put a fallout watch face on it so it saves battery even more...
They're not real "smartwatches" though. The thing that drains battery in these smartwatches are WearOS and WatchOS which huawei GTs don't have. A watch that I know that have WearOS and can last for weeks are ticwatch pro 3 ultra, which advertised can last 3 days in smart mode and >a month in "essential mode" (time, heart rate monitor, step counter, etc. And thanks to it's dual screen display). I was gonna get it but unfortunately their software supports seems unreliable.

Yeah lol that was odd to see in an mkbhd video
Yeah seems like the shots were slowed down without adding frames!?
I bet this video was short in a hurry.
@@blaze26700 yup even the color grading seems off to me
My guess is two cameras, different frame rates and when they produced it they used the main cam rate, which produces that stutter.
I work in embedded software and rtos's are very common. We pronounce them R-TOS for some reason. It's basically just a scheduler which runs different tasks at certain frequencies, typically 10ms, 20ms, 50ms 100ms and 1 second. Generally used on super low power devices so makes sense in this case.

I own two smartwatches including the Samsung GW5. The more I see these smartwatches, the more I am glad I got a Garmin. It lasts two weeks, has a trans-reflective display (best for bright days), feels almost weightless and the button based navigation is a dream to use with dirty or wet hands. The best part is the way the data is shown and interpreted to calculate stats - it is so detailed and easy to understand.
Expensive though!
@@bloodhoug82 Nah. I use a basic Garmin - the Forerunner 55. Cheaper than most of these.
Easy to understand - not about garmin IMO
@@Qpwrtm Garmin, for me, presents the data in the best manner. I have borrowed and used many other systems and I prefer the Garmin way the most.
@@bloodhoug82 My Garmin is cheaper than most of these smartwatches. I replied to this yesterday, but for some strange reason, my comment is not showing up.
i have a Garmin Fenix 6X Solar Titanium, battery lasts for about 25 days. Transflexive display is the key for it, most of the time i don't need any internal watch light to read it.
Does it have WearOS? Guess not
@@Fredd00007 do you need all the WearOS features though? It has Music, GPS, probably better support for Maps and Health Tracking than most other watches since Garmin has the knowhow of those. I'd love to see a brand of open, non-watchOS smartwatches that also look good and work really well. Transflexive displays would be super nice too. Sadly, people always think they need a high res OLED and a whole ass Android running on their smartwatches.... Currently, there's only Garmin in the higher end and PineTime (*OSS*) on the lower end for consumer-level watches that are open and customisable, and I'd love to see more options.
@@Fredd00007 yea and that watch is like 800 dollars. this watch can get to 14 days if you really need it when you disable wearos stuff

Really interesting. I feel like if this works then maybe it can be optimised so the switch between OSes is quicker in the future. Was surprised when you said it was WearOS with that sort of battery life
pretty interesting technical design , love that dual chip architecture , hybrid mode
I use the Huawei Watch gt3 pro with a 790mAh battery (not the last model, not same fonctionnalities...). It last 4-5 days with all the monitorings, always on display, and can keep up to 12-14 days with all off.
don't forget that this watch can withstand up to 5 ATM. It's perfect for freediving. My only negatives for this watch are: - does not play nice with Samsung security -- had to uninstall my work email on my phone - workout tracking doesn't count individual reps Otherwise it's great.
I have Huawei Watch 3. With battery saving mode that still tracks everything, it lasts full 3 weeks.
And its a gorgeous watch
Just checked it out, and it's looks ugly AF...
The huawei watchface is too big and yea it kinda looks ugly. Also it doesn't have wearOS. Which might be a positive if you want it to connect to an iphone.
Open source devs have been testing out a similar concept with full Android & Linux running side-by-side in android phones. Your review just sold me on this watch. I've been a One+ user since day one and am in the market for smart watch to replace my fitbit.
I’m sure they can fix the notification delay with a very simple software update
Literally been waiting for this review
I'm still on the first OnePlus watch and find it pretty good for the price at the moment I bought it. Snappy, light, battery life is excellent (12 / 20d in battery mode) and it makes everything I need a smartwatch to do : give me the moment of the day, buzz with notifications, track my sleep & fitnesses and count my steps ! Don't think i'm switching to the second one but hey, maybe in a few years !
I think you should include whether or not devices support alternative apps for connecting. Not everyone wants their minute to minute vitals, location, etc. all being sent to the cloud. Even if it's not common, it'd be good for keeping that in the minds of consumers and companies that we are looking for that option.
Jittery footage during the charging segment near the end. Just me or camera thing? I love my Galaxy Watch 6 as I have the S24u which just makes life easier together. From a Watch 4 to 6 is like night and day for battery life.
Well I still dont see reason to upgrade from Watch 4.
How much battery time you get from watch 6? And is it 44mm version?
The jotter is definitely in the video itself.
I saw jitters too
Low fps footage, yeah. 8:42
It's crazy how OnePlus just released an amazing flagship phone series, 12 and 12R. But now, out of nowhere, they come out with a Wear OS watch with 100 hours of battery on a certain mode!!💯💯😁😁👌👌🙏🏽🙏🏽
They're really coming back with a vengeance. If they keep climbing that Hill, the OnePlus 13 is def gonna give Samsung and Google a run for their money. 👍
OnePlus open is being very well reviewed too
Classic round design and that battery life won me over from my galaxy watch 4,and I was this close to getting an AW Ultra! Pre-ordered!
Damn, having two operating systems share the same memory is impressive as well. They need to both coordinate with each other to not corrupt any data and to communicate available memory and what not.
If you could get ahold of Huawei's Watch GT 4, it's got about 2 weeks of battery life. My daily driver, absolutely awesome. No Watch OS features tho
Its my daily driver as well, the battery life is crazy
I have the GT2. I can't even imagine how people can live with charging their watch everyday.
Same... I have since 2020 a Huawei watch, I can't imagine using a 24h watch
Daily driver as well. And people have always asked me what watch I am wearing, because it is always a looker.
Came to the comments looking for someone mentioning the glorious Huawei Watch GT4. My daily driver also, I always have all the functionalities on, workout every day and still got about a week of battery life, GPS works very well and has saved me from getting lost in some hikes, absolute best watch out there
Actually, not only has ticwatch already done this hybrid model for a while, the ticwatch pro might even be superior because it has a separate transparent low power lcd screen thatll help you save even more battery while keeping the always on display.
But you also have to deal with one of the worst companies selling smartwatches, Mobvoi. They take forever for providing updates and terrible customer service and bad at honouring warranty.
Too bad the company has a reputation for absolutely abysmal after-sale support. Not that oneplus doesn't have issues in that department too, but mobvoi makes oneplus look like apple in comparison
mobvoi can't even push regular updates.
Lol good luck using GPS on that ticwatch
How important is the Display? As the newest EL & colour transreflective eink displays look like standard TFT albeit not with a 1000 nits. With an Eink display reinforcing the loop between compute, battery and screen drain, you could get a month between charges. Slap an OxfordPV translucent solar cell on the screen as well and in sunny states you may never have to charge it
@Marques Brownlee Could you recommend any good quality power bank for laptops, smartphones, tablets etc??
In my experience, Garmin has been the battery king in the smart watch realm.
This is all of the facts. My Garmin Venu2 plus goes around 9 - 13 days between charges
I charge my Forerunner (295, I think?) once a week. That’s with about 4-6 hours of exercise tracking (cycling or running) with in-watch GPS. I don’t use it for music playback though, so I don’t know how much that would drain it. I personally could not and would not use a watch that I had to charge every day. I think once a week is too often but I’m not _too_ pressed about it.
Wear OS use more power than what Garmin's OS does. Different features too.
@@N3v3r_S3ttl3 I'm not saying this isn't the case, I'm just curious what the features are. A lot of my Apple snob friends will talk about how I'm not getting all the benefit they are with my Garmin. But I get sleep tracking, heart rate, Pulse OS, all my notifcations, phone calls, payment system... what are all of the other watches providing that this doesn't that makes them burn through battery 10 times as fast?
ugh everyone says this but i just don't care at all. the smartwatch crowd won't be tempted by an expensive fitness watch because that's not what we want at all.
OnePlus are officially back!
You're usually pretty thorough when it comes to technology out there. So I have to say I'm shocked that you didn't mention the GARMIN. I've had mine for 5 years and still to this day, it takes me about two almost three weeks to have to recharge my battery, and I use it for biking, yoga, walking and swimming daily.
Preordered one yesterday 😊 so excited to try it. For now i use a galaxy watch 6 classic with my one plus 12
Excited to see some progress in the smartwatch market in terms of actually usable battery life. But I’d be remiss not to point out that long battery life on smart watches is not new. Garmin, Coros and others measure in weeks and sometimes months with always on MIPs displays. And even their OLED models tend to be 6+ days in always on mode. They just don’t run Android Wear or WatchOS. Which may be part of the reason they are so good!
Thing is, watches not running WearOS kinda all "suffer" from laggy or straight up unresponsive UIs. And when your smartwatch freezes up when you're trying to reply to a notification, it leaves a bad impression on the consumer. Apple Watch might not be the battery champ - but that thing is hard-coded to display at 60fps at all times, and jumping through the UI has that classic Apple-certified smoothness.
@@mbazokaIs there a need for sixty fps at all times though? Especially on an ultra watch that is marketed as having life saving features and being very rugged, when you’re stuck in the woods you probably dont care about your fps but you carry about having days or weeks of battery life
@@JL1 The "need" is there in the sense that anything less is just not smooth. And if it's not smooth, then it "hinders" the user's experience. Technology should be a pleasure to use, not a bother. Apple may have gone in the 'pleasure' direction too far, but you can't deny the results.
This watch should be put up against the Huawei Watch GT4 which has a longer battery life and is compatible with Android and iOS as well as HarmonyOS.
Yeah I get 2 weeks battery on my GT4, it's awesome
Exactly. I never understood what are these manufacturers doing to not achieve 14 days battery life, as I had with several huawei gt watches last few years. And I am not missing any feature... So?
I was thinking the same thing, it looks like gt4 with buttons and shape. My gt4 can do two weeks of battery easy.
gt4 is not a wear os watch. it is similar to opw2's power saver mode
I don't think first 2 know what they are talking about, on that note I had 3 amazfit whatches all with 2 weeks battery life, but that is a tracker with notifications for which 90% of people is good enough
I was having the same issue with the delayed notifications, i turned on the animation boost option and it took care of the issue for me.
Ahh this was the watch you were wearing while doing the Kia EV9 vid, not the usual AW Ultra I prefer to pick up the $AMZPKK and be part of that move
I'd be curious to see the ticwatch pro in comparison to this.
At this point as much as I love my TicWatch Pro 5, the fact that over 6 months later it still doesn't have integrated Google Assistant is pushing me to consider jumping all in with OnePlus and leaving Mobvoi behind. I'm seriously considering getting the OnePlus Open and the OnePlus Watch 2.
I need one of these on my wrist asap.
I've had the sense 2 for awhile now. I'd love to see a review on that watch!
You mentioned the battery life was when using 'Smart Mode' - does this mean there's a 'use more power mode' that might make notifications appear more quickly at the expense of shorter battery life?
I'm a little confused here. I've owned an Amazfit 2 for around 3 years, and charge it once a MONTH. Sure display not on all the time (why?) but it handles all the functions I need including notifications (the main reason I own it)... once a month! A real breakthrough would be kinetic charging from movement. Seriously, I thought the surprise was going to be something in the months, even a kinetic drive module to replace some of the battery.
Because the Amazfit isn't a "smartwatch" really, it's a glorified Fitness tracker in a smartwatch shape, can't do remotely near all the stuff actual smart watches can do like run full apps and games by 3rd parties. A Smartwatch is basically a full smartphone on your wrist, a fitness tracker only supports like a quarter of those functions but has the benefit of running a lower powered OS because it doesn't need to support all that stuff.
@@BrandonGiesingWell, yes. But I just need the basics and notifcations on the watch. I leave the rest to my mobile... works for me.
The overwhelming majority of us with smart watches would do just fine with a glorified fitness tracker, but it's cool and handy the few times I actually need to use the more in depth features. @@VR_JPN
I agree with with you,I had been using Apple watch 4 for a year, and then switched to the Amazfit GTS,I have to say that although the AW4 had great system animations and fluency, also had a lot of 3rd party apps, all the functions I need are time display, notifications and fitness tracking which Amazfit GTS had, that's all. @@VR_JPN

Since there wasn't going to be anymore android support for the OP 7T's, I leveled up to the OP 11 5G...and I love that phone just as much... Now we'll see how this OP Watch 2 holds up.... So far, I've been really impressed with OP products!!!
Ahh this was the watch you were wearing while doing the Kia EV9 vid, not the usual AW Ultra
My 3y old Amazfit TRex trashes all. Yes it doesn't have all the features but I would say it also has the most importants. Not trashing these by any means. I just think there are good alternatives which should be mentioned too. And I absolutely am sure that a big chunk of battery drainage comes from Wear OS
To be honest, most people will realize that they don't need those fancy funtions which “REAL smartwatches” bring, all they need are time display, notifications and health/fitness tracking
They claim 100 hours but then that’s only with Always On disabled. If Apple had done that people would all be bashing them, how does OnePlus get away with this??
because price
I saw that they have a section on the product page that goes into details on battery live as well and explains it surpsingly well. They give different use scenarios and how long it lasts for them.
Because their CEO is not a gay like Apples. I personally don’t want to be bummed by Tim Cook like you.

Great review, bro! Very informative.
I've got a ticwatch Pro, that has dual screens. a normal oled plus an old school monochrome liquid crystal watch display for low power. If I could get that combined with this dual processor it'd be the greatest watch ever!
I actually like that watch The only thing is missing from it is wireless charging instead of the pen magnetic book charger for it
I want to thank you for your advice on that one video you made about the MacBook and how you helped me decide which one to get. You saved me money! You helped me realize that all I needed was the M1 chip and I am so happy I saved that money bc this one that I got does everything I need it to. You rock!
I really like the button placement on the side
I genuinely loved the first watch. Still using it today and will absolutely be getting this one!
You should check Ticwatch Pro 5 with two displays... Up to 8 days in real life. And with quick charge - if you are going to charge them during brushing your teeth it will always be around 90%. A lot of other cool features(like changing color of backlight according to your heartrate during exercises)
this is pretty cool, but I still got my Amazfit GTR2 and been running it for YEARS now, it just won't give up, and it does all that I need it to do but would still love an upgrade, prolly gonna run it till it dies but, don't see that happening for a while. It's been through hell and back.
Finally someone (One Plus) mimicked Mobvoi and their approach used in the Ticwatch Pro 3 Ultra and 5 Pro. I am using Ticwatch Pro 3 Ultra and I love its battery life. This One Plus Watch 2 is very interesting because of battery life.
Hey Marques! Can you make a video on the Samsung Fit 3? I'd like to know whether it would be a better choice over a smartwatch if I'm solely focusing on the fitness tracking.
I have the original oneplus watch and I think it's interesting that it beats this one in some aspects, like battery life. I don't have optimizations for it and it lasts me a solid 6 to 8 days, and notifications are also a lot better, I flip the watch and it shows them instantly. Kinda weird how they didn't tranfer those over
Treston's two cent: the Samsung Galaxy 3 white with the silver dial is the best looking smart watch you can buy it beats competition by style and functionality. Super ez to use. super cheap. Screens for days hella color options for outfits. You just can't beat it when you discuss bang for buck! Hope this helps. I got mins for 100 bucks on eBay 🌹
Still aching for a nice analogue watch with the basic smart health functions built in and a basic complication for notifications (to then detail on your phone) I have a few analogue watches I love the look of - much much moreso than a boring smart watch which is just a soulless black disc on my wrist - but with analogue I immediately start missing all the functions of a smart watch.
the "carry the one" message from Andrew.. Gold!
The intro being the logic rza collab is 😮😊
Hello. I wanted to know which watch you show at the end that you say is for fitness? thank you. greetings
Love that you took time to test both watches and gave a straightforward comparison. The hybrid chip system in OnePlus Watch is an interesting take, and despite its quirks, it seems to deliver on battery life.
My galaxy watch 6 classic is giving me 50-60 hours even with sometimes using always on display for few hours at the time. So, 40 hours is the bare minimum for me. At night, I use power saving mode because you don't need any performance while sleep tracking. It measures my stress level all the time and the heart rate every 10 minutes. I have auto track walking and running on, and I use it every time I go to the gym, which is every other day. Always on display is always active when I workout as well.
Gran vídeo. Te doy las gracias por no hacerlo exclusivamente del “Thank you” de mis amados Duran Duran, un disco que jamás debería haber visto la luz 😂.
oppo (oneplus) designed this hybrid from Ambiq+Snapdragon (gen4) for latest oppo watch 4 and X series , 0neplus just leveraged this hybrid core with watch X ID and renamed to oneplus watch 2 (= oppo watch X) for overseas market with RTOS + Android hybrid, if you try to compare watch with iOS/android platform for power consume , try to bench Huawei series (GT) with Harmony OS for better battery life. Always include Huawei platform ( phone/watch ..) into benching, since its technology comes from China completely and may outperform western solutions.
Hey Marques, what’s your Watch band ? 3:34 I’m loving the colors
Would love to know
Any insight on blood pressure sensing wearables, accuracy or effectiveness or what have you?
Currently have a TicWatch Pro 5 which has started to remind me every 5 minutes that it's having "sync" issues with the Mobvoi Health app, and refuses to let me fix it. Given I can return it, get this with some cool looking wireless earbuds AND have change, it's a no brainer. It sounds like this is a ridiculous step up over that one too as it will never look "cheap" which was the only mild gripe I had with the TicWatch's battery saving technique of having an LCD display over the OLED.
I guess WearOS or WatchOS may have built-in RTOS style low power mode in future. That would eliminate the need of a separate processor in the watch. It can just work with the existing high-efficiency cores of the main processor.
Are we forgetting Huawei Watches from 3-4 years ago? Cheap (~$150), battery lasts over 5-6 days with regular use, looks great and still has almost all the features we get with smartwatches till date. I've had my Magic Watch 2 for about 3 years now and it still does not feel dated. The only drawbacks are the software (with Google/Huawei "parting ways" to put it lightly) and no wireless charging (which OnePlus does not either).
Great video as always but why are you not mentioning Huawei watches? My GT 3 can last 12 days on normal use :)
Like other commenters said, isn't this what Mobvoi's TicWatch has been doing for years now? Also with dual displays at that (one that tracks all your vitals and still lasts 3-4 weeks)! Those are the originals IMO!
Ticwatch pro 5 also has killer battery life. And has the 2 screens allowing for lower power consumption as well. But where the tic watch goes south is updates. Wonder if OnePlus will do better in that regard
Love the logic instrumental
The twin OS concept is very similar to Infotainment in cars. Safety critical things like chimes and reverse cameras work on RTOS whereas Android does all the other heavy lifting
I have Huawei GT 3 which is now over 1.5 years old and still gives me around a week battery life with gym routine (always on during gym times)
It looks amazing - does it connect to Google apps and Google fit? do you have a review on the latest Google pixel watch on your channel please.
I bought this too after watching a couple vids. Especially with OP offering $50 for any smartwatch, I have a Fossil Sport watch from several years ago which was a major POS that I'll send back lol. My Samsung Active 2 has been great the past few yrs but it'll be nice going back to Wear OS.
I bought one as well. Had a $30 coupon from OnePlus so brought the price down to $233 shipped. Not bad at all for something like this.
I have the Amazefit GTR 4, and the battery lasts weeks, not a 100 hrs. I charge it like once every 3 or 4 weeks - goes down 1 or 2% a DAY. Does all of the above, minus (regrettably) NFC.
Hold to end is genius! Apple need to pay attention, the number of times my watch has stopped 1/3 into a hike is frustrating as hell
Huawei started that on the gt watches
I am using the Huawei GT 3, battery lasts between 5-7 days depending on how regularly I go cycling or running, it's quite impressive and has got anything you'd want, it works well with my iPhone too!
I like what you did there with the hoodie advert 😅❤ brill stuff
At first glance the watch is a very cool piece of technology. Two processors, two operating systems running, pretty impressive! On the other hand, it's overengineered. The first OP Watch lasts a week, maybe even longer, is thinner, lighter and it does all the basic stuff you want from the watch anyway.
So i have a question. I have had a Samsung Gear s3 since 2017 i still get 2+ days of battery life, use to be up to 4 or 5. What happened to smart watch batteries that make them so small now?
Haven't used my Galaxy Watch Active (3/4🤔) in a good while. Was wanting a new watch when I upgraded my phone, this just won for me with the price vs performance.
Huawei Watch GT2 last 14 days [336 hours] with all features on (without always on display activated, with feature on it will last 7 days) and costs less than 300 euro. And it have a stainless steel case AND Saphire glas.
