    • It's going to violate someone's due process come court time. The state already passed a judgment without hearing both sides of the case. It's grounds for dismissal and results in an actual damaging result to the victims if the claims are accurate.

  • Good to see the majority of respondents having an issue over a motion to denounce racism are essentially…exposing their own passive aggressive racism. Whether the issue happened or not…we all can’t agree to denounce racism? Pathetic.

  • Hate crime? Even if it did happen, how is calling someone names a hate crime?

    @SergioPena20@SergioPena20Ай бұрын
    • Sure, we all have freedom of speech. This fundamental right is open to interpretation and has it's limits though. For example you can't say certain things while in certain places without being removed - and possibly charged with disturbing the peace. You can't libel someone without civil consequences. Also some threats and calls to action are deemed assault and might lead to arrest. I'm not sure of the penalties of a "hate crime" that seems to include only harassment by speech. I don't know how it's codified - in each state specifically. In a simpleminded world We would call names and be called names. We'd do it, and be okay with someone doing it to us - without it leading to violence. Most name calling tends to escalate though. Now, with that said, it is perhaps elevated to a hate crime in this instance because of the history of our country. Certain language harkens back to a particular brutal history that we haven't really healed from (if even possible 🇺🇲). The stalking of the women, Revving of engines, yelling racial slurs, all sounds like a Klu klux klan lynching about to occur. The women were made unsafe by the actions. Maybe authorities want to get the cowardly devils documented before they actually physically assault, or murder someone. That may be the intent of the law - capture and prevention. Or maybe enhancement and deterrence, so that other cowards won't try to copycat the racial attack. Sorry the women had to go through this. All of Idaho isn't like this...I hope. It'd be wrong to pre-judge the entire State based on a few dangerous morons, but it's understandable if folks have to be precautionary. You never know who is a bigot. Even more reason to bring the cowards to light and investigate them. Ask them how and why. How'd they become that way? Are their grandparents racists as well? Did they hear their parents and neighbors saying slurs growing up? What about friends and spouses? Children? Do they all still speak this way? Why do they value racism so much? Why verbally attack the basketball team? Did they feel tough as if they were living on edge while yelling racial epithets? Why? 🇺🇲

    • Since this it has come out that these encounters were actually taped/videoed. We do indeed not only need a “resolution”, which does absolutely nothing, but a FULL apology needs to be issued as we are all Idahoans and these poor excuses are our elected representatives. And if they’ve been able to find the perpetrators they need to be prosecuted, if they are students at UofI they should be expelled. We are decent people here and we need to show it.

    • @@meonly406 if you can provide actual footage of the alleged incident that would be appreciated. I only find police body cam footage of a chaperone statement. I live in the panhandle and I’ve never seen or heard any racial slurs or disrespectful treatment of anyone. Downtown CDA has tourists from all over, and to make assumptions and/or accusations before gathering facts creates a slippery slope for everyone involved.

    • @@lucycerra3426 I appreciate what your saying. It is interesting that this attack has been called false, a ruse, and ridiculous by those most likely to have supported and participated in a racist attack. When people grow up in an environment that tolerates racism/sexism/etc... it is often required of our law makers and leaders to make a show of solidarity with the attackers or to publicly remind everyone that attacking black people, women, children etc. IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

We all have a choice of wether to improve our culture or destroy it. It only takes unification of the people to make things happen. To improve for everyone. There’s always going to be a few rotten eggs in every batch though. It’s just part of living amongst people. Some of those people will be evil. The college student massacre could have happened anywhere and the murderer wasn’t even from Idaho. Following your line of thinking, we’re technically never safe in our homes anywhere. It’s just a blanket statement.
