I live here, there are people of all sorts of races, including myself and I have never encountered any type of racism. Even in the hills. Maybe it did happen, maybe it didn't. Recently moved out of Idaho for work after living there for 27 years. Over the years, from time to time, my wife and I witnessed racist comments in public, at our jobs, from friends, even extended family. But we noticed a sharp increase, once Trump entered the political picture. It's almost like he brought it more out of the closet. This story does not suprise me.

Sad part is that tournament should not been held there if they could not accommodate all!!! They being host were paid in full to host tournaments so logistics should have been checked and confirmed before paying!!!
The Women's NCAA tournament first and second rounds are hosted by the top 16 teams. Gonzaga was one of those 16 teams. All the host city's are determined just under a week before the tournament starts. It is more sad that Idaho has become a sanctuary for racists and militia groups and the these teams were subject to the scum of our nation.

You do realize that saying racial slurs in of itself is not a hate crime. In the United States hate speech is actually protected speech unless there is a tangible personal threat to a person or their property or imminent fighting words. What happened was repugnant and terrible but in order for it to be a crime the elements of intentional continued harassment and stalking and disorderly conduct will have to be proved. And the spotlight on the game itself is irrelevant to the law itself.

Idaho has a long history of racism going back to the 1870's and a large influx of Confederates escaping reconstruction and civil rights for blacks. Towns like Dixie, Atlanta, and Stanley were founded based upon racist ideals. Those ideals still define Idaho.

Context. Rap songs (written by black artists) seek to reclaim the n word within their communities (take women calling their friends “bitch” in an affectionate way. Offensive word reframed within the community to have a positive connotation). However, this is still a slur. You can call someone a bitch and mean it by its full definition. If the n word is thrown at a group of (mostly POC) people and then they are stalked back to their hotel, it is clearly being used out of hate. This is when it becomes offensive and hateful. Context is everything.
And I will add that it wasn’t just feelings being hurt here. They were targeted, verbally accosted, and followed back to the place where they are staying. This is a definite upset in the feeling of safety these players had. It was right of them to move hotels for their own wellbeing.
