Our employees we pay to do as they please just aren’t doing a good or legal job. They should all be suspended till they stop acting like they own this country. They don’t. I worked for Idaho Governor Phil Batt (R) in the 1990s and he was a fierce advocate for human rights. The vote should have been an easy one. According to published press reports: "The team’s coach, law enforcement and county officials reported that a group in trucks revved their engines at [University of Utah] team members, who were staying at the Coeur d’Alene Resort and walking to and from a restaurant for dinner, and yelled racial slurs at them, including the N-word. One of the trucks had a Confederate flag, according to the police report obtained by the Idaho Statesman."

    • @@mizzury54how do you know what the effect of this is? It's not the government's job to jump on police reports and choose a side. Why? Because our court system is one of presumed innocence. Meaning if the police report results in a court case then the accused quite literally will have grounds to dismiss the case because it lacks the basic necessity of a fair trial. It's not that hard. This is a political trap. It's a waste of precious legislative time, and it's a violation of due process. Apparently it's also a violation of the right to association as well. • It is deeper than that. The actual bill attempts to address systemic racism issues and expand social education on tolerance. It is not just a piece of paper that says "Racism = bad"

      @MindWack@MindWackАй бұрын
    • @@MindWack Well, if that’s true, I believe that’s even more fruitless and destructive. “Systemic” nowadays means theoretical. If it’s a racist law on the books, let’s point to it and get rid of it. I can get behind that. But if it’s a boogeyman for endless funding (there is no understood yet achievable goal to be met) and proselytizing critical race theory than no thanks. Or if it’s simply virtue signaling so they can appear morally elevated at the expense of the tax payer, it’s still a waste of time and resources.

      @McTaco@McTacoАй бұрын
    • @@McTaco It is an empty gesture, I can agree to that. But it doesn't create a tax burden on anyone, it doesn't really even change any existing policy or affect any operations. It is just an official condemnation of racism and a set of guidelines to try and reduce racism when it is identified. It is way for Idaho to basically say to America "Hey, we aren't a racist state, we do not condone the actions of the racists that happen to live here." Would it not be FAR better for EVERYONE to just pass the dumb thing and agree "racism = bad?" Rather than wasting tax dollars and acting like babies, storming out of their JOB?

      @MindWack@MindWackАй бұрын
    • @@MindWack I understand, it seems innocuous enough. However, (there is always a however, heh) imagine people asking , nay, demanding that you to formally denounce pedophilia. What are they implying about you and what are others to infer about you from that? That’s why I prefer them ignore obnoxious extra legislative movements rather than to take them seriously. Like it’s something that needs to be addressed. They are on government time. We all know that racism is bad. To give energy to this feigns that a healthy segment of the representative government doesn’t agree with that basic concept.

      @McTaco@McTacoАй бұрын
    • @@McTaco The main problem with your viewpoint is simply a matter of personal esteem. If someone asking (or even demanding) that you denounce an evil act makes you feel like they are implying you WON'T denounce evil, then that really says much more about you than them. If you AREN'T a pedophile or racist or whatever and you DO denounce those things, then it shouldn't be an inconvenience to simply say "Yep, I denounce those evils." Bending over backward to NOT denounce those things DOES give the impression you are pro-racism, etc. If your goal is to appear non-racist to the Libs then the easiest path of least resistance is just to agree Racism = bad.
