An interviewer even asked Verhoeven if he got the idea from "Satan´s Alley", Verhoeven answered that he wasn´t aware of this, the interviewer then showed him the fake trailer and Verhoeven apparently loled hard. xD

    • Don LaFontaine was the guy who usually did those movie trailers, including the fake trailers for Tropic Thunder. He died in 2008, so he probably was able to complete those fake trailers before death. Even then, the trailer voiceovers were getting overused & tiring so maybe that's one reason why the voiceovers started to die off, in addition to Don's passing.

    • @@robwebnoid5763 I heard that Don passed away and I also read and saw videos on it but I dont know maybe some or most people might not be able to understand but there was a form of art in doing and hearing a voice over in a movie trailers. I remember seeing them in TV spots and in the teathers and hearing the deep voice naming the actors and making a comment on the film like " Based on the New York Times Bestseller" or " From the Director of ...." I just feel sad that today's generation will never understand that feel.

      @bryedtan@bryedtan2 жыл бұрын
    • @@bryedtan ... Well, while movie trailer narration might have disappeared at the moment, in general, it can always come back again, much like a fashion, fad or trend. A never-ending cycle. Here, gone, here, gone, here again. At least in the U.S. I'm sure there are other movie trailers out there for movies from other nations that are using voiceovers right now. And voiceovers have been around since the 1940's, more or less, back when movie trailers were so much longer than now, which also included a lot more text graphics on the trailer's screen, like "A must see" or "The intrigue, the mayhem", etc. Or maybe that started in the 1950's-70's. Some called them movie previews but I don't care, it's still a trailer. Another thing that may have disappeared or just got lesser, was the Opening credits, maybe due to audience ADHD heh. Anyway, the voiceovers probably started dying off around a decade ago, mainly due to Don's passing. Some factors for it going away, besides Don, was that voiceovers got parodied a lot & these Tropic Thunder fake trailers is a great example of this. Another factor was production studio marketing found that it might be a better selling point to just instill a little more intrigue & mystery about the movie, rather than talking too much about it, so using visuals & music alone would be better to get more tickets. Again, voiceovers, on the majority, may come back at a future date... and then die down again a few decades after that, heh.
