To think the man was in crutches only a few months ago, and here he is defeating the 25 year old world number 2, coming back from 2 sets down. What a champion.
And he had Covid in December. Never has there been a fighter like him in our game. He just embodies every single characteristic that you would want to see in a son, brother, friend, husband, father. Tremendous champion. If that doesn't say GOAT then I really don't know what does.
Don't forget he had covid in december. He was also 2-3 0-40 down in the third set - Meddy could have broken and held serve for a 5-2 lead

Yes, today I decided to watch this match bcoz i never quite saw it in its entirety. But still i feel anxious and get upset with Rafa shouting at the screen even though I already know the outcome, lol!!! After Rafa lost that second set I asked myself how on earth did Rafa pull this off?!! 2:37:40 I always came back for this. Chills when I listened to the commentator's narration, they thought it was over, I thought it was over, even Rafa's face seems helpless as he sees Daniil's backhand winner past him by, far away from where he stood. And he turned it around. WHAT. A. LEGEND.

I was watching in the big crowd from just outside the stadium and remembered seeing that. That was it. That was the start of the end for rafa. At almost 36 years of age, after going down 2 sets and 2-3(0-40) in a grandslam final against the best hard court player on the tour & the most recent slam winner, this guy who was on crutches 6 months back due to a foot injury and was tested covid positive a month back, has turned it around in the same tournament where he lost 4 finals previously. The greatest comeback of all time, some may argue Djokovic against Fed, but this trumps it for me considering even 1 month ago no one expected him to even get to the quarters again. At 2-6 6-7 2-3 0-40, no doubt only one person thought Rafa still had a chance to win, Rafa himself.
without a doubt. novak had the physical edge in that match after saving championship point. rafa here was on crutches barely five months ago, recovered from covid a month ago and was playing an opponent a decade younger than him in his least favourable slam on a surface that hasn’t been easy on his body. nobody but rafa could’ve done it.

@@justchillin6314it’s the other way around Rafa is a legend at the level or Roger and Novak and the old legends of the past even before them… Alcaraz is a kid the most promising one probably one day he is gonna reach these legends probably but you are speaking way to early bro. Is like you are comparing Mbappe or Halaand to Messi and Ronaldo. They still have a long way to go. Really I cannot believe your comment.
Watching again.......for the infinity time.....So happy for Rafa...he lost several times before being so close... but this night was so long, difficult and the Australian fans deserved a victory for Rafa...
The gentleman that says "He's one of the greatest warriors our sport has ever seen." "He's a hero to so many of us." "He means alot to everybody." No truer words spoken. For some reason I appreciate that gentleman saying that. The job Rafa and his team did here I put on a level with Herb Brooks...Herb Brooks being one who delivered the best coaching job ever seen.

@@Last_Tutmos He won against a draw tougher than the one Djokovic played to earn his last Wimbledon. The final was interesting, memorable, and epic. And most of all, Nadal had ZERO to do with what happened to Djokovic. It's not his fault. He just played who was in front of him. If Med had won many of you ND fans would have been so happy Nadal lost you wouldn't have been half as outraged as you are now. No one denies Djokovic is the greatest AO player ever. But he made a choice, and choices have consequences. He knows that... which is why he congratulated the two on a great final, and Nadal on 21. He will have other chances to get his 21, and 22, and beyond possibly. Stop being so bitter. I doubt Djokovic is anywhere near as bitter as many of his fans.

He is a great player, warrior, fighter and I wish him all the best in tennis career and life in general.
At almost 36 years of age, after going down 2 sets and 2-3(0-40) in a grand slam final against the best hard court player on the tour & the most recent slam winner, this guy who was on crutches 6 months back due to a foot injury and was tested covid positive a month ago, has turned it around in the same tournament where he lost 4 finals previously. This should be the biggest fairytale comeback ever in the history of the sport. Rafa You Fucking Beauty ❤🐐
Novak says hello
Rafael Nadal was my favourite more than a decade ago and when my friends asked me why, I said "endurance" even though my reasoning and favouritism was a bit of a fluke. So many years later, my favouritism for him grew with my knowledge of the subject, and this, right here, consolidated it.
I'll be honest when I saw him 2 sets down and 2 - 3 & 0-40 I lost hope of him winning, Nadal just flipped the switch and started ripping them vintage groundstrokes, especially the forehand (Nadal has the most destructive and powerful forehand) I couldn't believe it. He is the greatest ever and no one can change my mind, he has the best hardwork ethic, tenacity, aggressiveness I have ever seen!
I'm a Federer fan but I had to choose a GOAT right now it would still be Djokovic. The guy has been battling against the crowds since he first started beating Roger and Rafa. Those two have had the crowds firmly on their sides nearly their whole careers. That's quite a big advantage to have.
Just like he suddenly flipped the switch during the 2013 USO when he beat Djokovic
@@kieranrankie203 Djokovic has not achieved as much as either Fed or Rafa. H2H records don't mean that much unless they are lopsided like Rafa vs. Fed.
You should have learned nobody is a winner until the end of the match! Particularly if is Rafa who is playing...✌ ✌
@@kieranrankie203 You're ignoring the fact that Nadal plays on only 1 healthy foot in all his career matches (including every single match against Novak and Fed) ... he has a painful foot deformity birth defect (already causing him to miss his season as early as when he was only 17 yo ... Nadal's foot deformity, to me, makes him the GOAT because it makes all his statistical achievement doubly more impressive having to play with such a big handicap in every single match of his life ....
Such an honor to witness this from the greatest of all time. Thank you for all the memories, Rafa
Still watching it once a week. For me, the greatest achievement of his career and in tennis's history.
Some people might say 08 Wimby is his greatest win ever but I really think it's this one. To exorcise the Rod Laver Arena demons and finally win the double grand slam after so many attempts and heartbreak, and the way that he did it, just incredible. I fear this season may be his last and I will enjoy every second of it.
Nope. 2022AO was Rafa's greatest final, tied with Wimbledon 2008 and 2019USO. He would have beaten Nole at 2022AO, btw, considering he beat red hot Medvedev who beat Nole at the 2021AO final. As Medvedev wins more and more titles for the rest of his career he will make Nadal's two 5 set thrillers at 2019USO and 2022AO look better and better.
@@Kileik The cope is real LMAO. He lost to Med at USO.
Judging from the rallies of the 2nd set, Nadal knew he can pull this off till the end to win the match. His tenacity and sharp focus paid off. True mark of a champion.
I hope Nadal will continue playing until he is 40. Tennis will never be the same without him.
It will be a horrible day when he decides to retire to have kids and spend time as a dad....we are nearing that end, I fear...yep.
I will stop watch tennis when he retired 😏
At 2:38:20 of this video, u will find the beginning of new chapter in tennis history. The greatest fightback this game has ever seen.
Whenever I think I simply cannot do something, I remember that Rafael Nadal came back from 2 sets love 40-0 break point to come back and win, and figure that I can do anything.
As a spaniard I feel so proud of Rafa, and is wonderful seeing how he is an inspiration for many people around the World: honesty, respect, hard work, fighting with fair play until the end.
Nadal is my favourite athlete in the world. Have been his die hard fan for 15 years now. To call him an inspiration is an understatement.
same here. There was just one tournament that used to happen in my country here in india while i was growing up. It was the chennai open and nadal visited here 2-3 times. i would travel over all the way over just to watch him play. He's more than mere inspiration.
Small request : Kindly doesn't limit Rafa greatness to one country...he shines on entire globe...
One of the GREATEST tennis matches of all time!!! Take a bow Rafa and Meddy.
One of the most breathtaking tennis match one would have ever witnessed..Rafa is no less than a wonder. ❣️
From 2 sets down to love 40, everybody believes that the game is over except ONE MAN.... and that is RAFAEL NADAL ❤😍
Truly inspiring! If I would have to watch only one tennis match all year long, I would watch this AO final over and over again. Out of this world !!! Congratulations Rafael Nadal !
That moment at 2:37:41... to the moment at 5:08:49... epitomises the greatest warrior of tennis history - Rafael Nadal!
undoubtedly, it is on the same level as 2019 wimbledon when Federer had 2 championship points on his own serve and couldn't convert.
@@ajaybhathire3612 Nah because Federer dominated throughout that match until the fifth set tie-break; there was a shift in domination here. Daniil for the first two and most of the third, and then Rafa for the remainder of the match (latter third, fourth and fifth).
Thé moment Medvedev career ended
I will never get tired of watching this
NEVER underestimate the heart of a champion. Rafa may be down 2 sets, but he's never out until he's out.
21 majors? Are you kidding me? With the heat he had to deal with throughout the tournament and his recent surgery at nearly 36 years of age? And he had to deal with Covid too? This guy is insane. Anyone who wants to take anything away from this achievement because Novak didn't take part can kiss my asterisk.
Rafa earned every bit of his 21th Major. Last I heard Medvedev beat Novak on a hard court at their last major. No asterisk needed.
Nadal just beat the best player of the new generation, the player who is the hottest player on the tour right now (especially on hard courts), and who ran right through Djokovic in the most recent Slam before this one. Nadal did this being well past his prime, with his best tennis behind him, age 35 being 10 years older than his opponent and coming off COVID and his surgery thinking he was headed for retirement. Down 0-2 and triple break point in the 3rd. He earned every bit of this.
Exactly , I am a huge Federer fan but sorry Roger, sorry Novak - RAFA is the REAL MAN !!!
@@danwood4171 Yup, the russian beat Novak IN STRAIGHT SETS at that.
@@danwood4171 Facts are Djokovic didn't lose to Medvedev more so to the moment that he was upon. Secondly you need to check Novak's record in Australian Open. He's very difficult to beat there. Nadal fully fit and much younger in 2012 couldn't do it. Djokovic record at US Open finals is poor but then again that doesn't suit your narrative.
THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME 2005 - 2022 Thank you RAFAEL NADAL 🇪🇦
More of the same to come….
I´d correct that: 2005 - still to be continued...
2003 to still continuing...
Seeing this like 10 times, and every time I got excited !

Playing against the best hard-court player who is 10 years younger, being down two sets and serving at 2-3, 0-40, Nadal was able to win this Aussie championship. I am beyond impressed with his mental fortitude.
What a game Rafa. From the moment I saw you in 08, you’ve become one of my favorite athletes in the world. And when I see they way you’ve overcame the struggles, hardships and injuries with undivided focus, training and great sportsmanship I feel very much inspired. Congrats champ you’ve earned it.

Roger Federer was a legend and some people say, he's arguably the greatest of all time. Novak Djokovic is the youngest of all the BIG 3 and has been heavily favored to finish with the most Grand Slam wins after the 3 of them will retire. But in my opinion and given all the adversity that he overcomes, Rafael Nadal is the Greatest Tennis Player of all Time!
Agreed! GOAT

absolutely nadal is the goat ❤❤ 22 grandslams is damn crazy ❤
ABSOLUTELY!
Sometimes I think that it's Novak, but when I remember that this man Nadal has missed ELEVEN grand slam tournaments due to injury ( and still have 22 majors ) I have to give him the edge. Had Nadal not had so many injuries he might have had twentysix or more majors by now. I feel that he would have won this year's Wimbledon if he was not injured.
What a match ..more accurately what a MAN...it's not the destination but the path defines his greatness.Always an inspiration .Almost 20 yrs in the pro career ,he had injured for than any other player in the tour. Every possible part in his body (foot, ankle, knee, hip, rib, wrist shoulder, appendicetomy and what more) has undergone wear and tear expect his heart .He still has the passion , motivation and the willingness to improve which makes him the great.. Whatever the slam count is..it doesn't matter .He is an inspiration not only for the sports lovers but for the entire world.
