Nice! I loved the Donkey Kong remake on GB. My absolute favorite GB game. Then fell in love again with Mario vs Donkey Kong on GBA. I’m so glad we are returning to it’s roots! I hope Pauline also shows up again too.

It is amazing! And This game, Mario vs Donkey Kong is basically a sequel to that Gameboy Donkey Kong. Two of the most underrated Mario games ever. Sadly the series fell off after this one though.

It seems Charles is voicing Mario here. Which leads me to think that they're only gonna use Kevin whenever they need new lines. And honestly I'm happy with that decision. The game itself looks great, too, even if it's not the Donkey Kong return we wanted.

Mario vs Donkey Kong on GBA was one of my absolute favorite games as a kid, and it holds an incredible amount of nostalgic value for me. I know most other people are going crazy over the Thousand-Year Door remake, but this? This one's for me. Thank you, Nintendo. And I'm so excited to hear all of those voice lines in restored quality! Mario is incredibly funny and expressive in this game and it deserves its opportunity to shine.

@@pracalt1051 Oh, for sure they got old original audio clips in high quality. Developers don't just lose the source material, they have no reason to throw it away after converting it to lower quality. Specially Nintendo, which always has the potential to profit a lot from remakes

I can't be the only one super excited about this remake. The original was one of my favorite GBA games and I just assumed that Nintendo had abandoned this direction for the Mario vs Donkey Kong series. Absolutely the highlight of the direct for me.
Nope youre not alone! This was my childhood man, one of the coolest take on Mario's moveset, its so much fun maneuvering in this game and solving platforming puzzles.

The GBA game was the only Mario vs DK that I played. The others didn't interest me due to the Mini Mario mechanics. Excited to play the remake.
I really enjoyed this series growing up so seeing Nintendo recognizing this series again makes me really happy.

Just when I thought Mario fans couldn’t have it any better this year, Nintendo hit it out of the park once again. Can’t wait!! Edit: Some people in the comments are being ungrateful. People, this year we got a movie and we’re getting a mainline game. Those two things alone would be great. The remakes and things for me are what elevate it from great to awesome. Of course we’re not getting a mainline 3D game, the Switch is almost done.

As a massive DKC fan, even though I really wanted to have a mainline DK game, I know we will get one sooner or later. That being said, I’m actually pretty excited for this! This was one of my favorite games on the game boy advance and it looks really good. That, the additions of the Kongs and Pauline in Mario kart, WarioWare and paper Mario the thousand year door?! This was a surreal direct, in a good way.
I’m so glad to see this classic return in such high detail. I loved every bit of this series, but the first one is more than deserving of a remake.
This is an even bigger year for Mario than 2021! I'm not going to lie, I'm hyped for all the new releases.
In hindsight, a shame we couldn't get some of these for the anniversary but I guess covid ruined those plans

I agree. I never liked the DS versions where you played as the Minis. I hope they add the original Gameboy version of Mario vs Donkey Kong as well *(no minis in that version, it's similar to the 1981 version of Donkey Kong where you save Pauline).*

@@ramc157 The basic plot of this game is "Mario has a factory producing little wind-up Mini Mario merchandise, Donkey Kong breaks into the factory and steals a sack full of Minis, Mario chases after him to retrieve the Minis". The game got half a dozen sequels which were Lemmings-like puzzle games in which a handful of Mini Marios walk around a stage by themselves and you navigate them towards the exit. Not quite as fun as the original formula, especially not after multiple identical sequels.
Most unexpected part of the whole direct, I thought this was just going to be another minis game. This is one of the most underrated Mario games (or is it a Donkey Kong game?) of all time, and I'm glad a new generation will have the chance to experience it.

This is one game where problem-solving is critical to beat all levels especially the harder ones, then unlocking extra levels with insane difficulty. Basically a great example of running and jumping while solving puzzles, 10/10 fun!

When they showed Mario and not the minis, I started pacing around my room with the happiest look on my face. This is amazing.
The GBA version was the spiritual successor of DK94, the best DK game ever made. Great to see they're willing to remaster and remake these hits.

Yeah, and people who complain that there are too many MvD games don't seem to realize THERE WAS (basically) ONLY ONE! Its essentially a sequel to the much earlier DK94, but other than that... all the other MvD branded games are just lemmings style games. So hate those if you must, but this (and probably even moreso DK94) is a great puzzle platformer. Correct me if I'm wrong on about this being the only true sequel to DK94, and the rest being just about guiding the Minis, lemmings style... also a fun idea... I keep forgetting I have one of those for DS. Just checked, its Mini-land Mayhem. Looking forward to playing that one one of these days... and if (when) I get Mario Vs. Donkey Kong I should be pretty set on for that series... I'd take a DK94 remake though... the game they SHOULD have remade, heh.

Having been raised on Donkey Kong 94, I love that its being brought back into the modern era. The only thing is the stakes aren't as high. Pauline isn't kidnapped and DK doesn't seem like he's try to kill you. I get its a kids game but so was DK 94. Idk, I guess I'm just getting old.

Unique Mario game with tight gameplay and excellent level design. Plus, it's got tons of levels! When you think you've beaten it, more levels appear with different design and gameplay. Excellent news!

Glad to see this series go back to the stuff that made it go in the first place. All those Minis-only games basically eroded the franchise, so it's GREAT to see MvDK back to basics. Hopefully this is a double bundle with Donkey Kong 94 as well though, I love MvDK but it's not a particularly long or challenging game iirc

This is really crazy! Mario vs Donkey Kong alongside Pokémon emerald were my first GBA games, and seeing it get remade honestly makes me really happy!
FINALLY! I loved the first two ones the GB and GBA games. Its a nice twist to the mario platformer that was perfect. I hope they continue this version versus the mini's.

I loved this game and concept when it first came out. It was my go-to as a kid when going on long road trips. So glad to see this along with Thousand Year Door and Super Mario RPG being remade for Switch! Personally, I couldn't have asked for a better trio of classic Mario games!

As someone that grew up with the DS mario vs donkey kong game( I believe the first where you control the mini’s ), I’ve always wanted to play the original pre-mini games, they always looked so much more fun

I never played this game before but I remember I used to watch a playthrough of this game a long time ago. The platformer gameplay style I really found more appealing compared to the minis. I am glad Nintendo decided to return to the Mario vs. DK original because it honestly looks the most fun in the series. I can't wait to play the heck out of this game
