Super Mario Maker 2 - World Maker Update - Nintendo Switch

The Super Mario Maker 2 game allows you to unleash your creativity with more new options and the ability to create your own world map. A free update to Super Mario Maker 2 for the Nintendo Switch system adds a new World Maker mode, as well as a host of new content and features on April 22.
In World Maker mode, multiple courses created by a user can be tied together on a path from the starting point on a world map to the end castle. The look of the world map can also be customized. Up to eight worlds containing a total of up to 40 courses can be combined, creating a mini Super Mario game that can be shared* with others.
In addition to World Maker, guess who else is making an appearance in Super Mario Maker 2? The Koopalings! All seven of these troublemakers, each with his or her own movement pattern, can be added to user-created courses. Other enemies added to the game include the key-chasing Phanto and the wind-up Mechakoopas.
Additional power-ups and course parts are also coming to Super Mario Maker 2 as part of the free update. This includes the SMB2 Mushroom, which transforms Mario and friends into their look from the Super Mario Bros. 2 game and allows them to pick up and throw items and enemies - just like in that classic game! With the Frog Suit from the Super Mario Bros. 3 game, Mario can swim through water with ease, and even run across its surface! Other power-ups added to the game are the Power Balloon first introduced in the Super Mario World game, the Super Acorn from the New Super Mario Bros. U game and the Boomerang Flower from Super Mario 3D World. There are also five variations for wearables like the Cannon Box and Propeller Box from the Super Mario 3D World game.

    • Yes, they could add more themes like beach, volcano or more game styles like super mario bros 2 (not only the mushroom powerup but a full SMB2 theme), maybe a 2D version of Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy like they did with 3D World

    • @@lightning13clair29 they weren't packed with content? sure, if they kept on releasing updates, then it's not like they had barely any new content, but they didn't. "way i see it don't play the game anymore" is such dumb logic because that's the entire point. we want to keep playing the game, but we can't, because there's no new content. there's a reason the only remnant of the mario maker community is basically just desbug and the competitive / co-op players, and the people making computers and stuff.

    • @@lightning13clair29 I'd put the multiplayer update up as a very notable one, but the reality is that people don't seem to recognize the gulf in the scale of the major updates in Mario Maker 2 relative to the small updates for the original. Some people are even at the point of saying it only got 2 updates outright. Looking through the patch notes and comparing to the original game really drives home how exorbitant the additions made to MM2 really are. The bookmark site might have been nice to see return, but I suppose they figured the improved in-game search was good enough in the sequel.

    • @@da3329 that would be great. Imagine you love smash, but hate people that spam PK fire with Ness or Lucas. Just disable these fighters as opponents and you don't get matched. Plus: almost every other Online game gives you the option to ad friends or to block players after a match, which is a great feature, missing in smash.

    • It's sad. Nintendo updates their games for like a year and then they move on. Mario Maker 1 stopped getting updates after 1 or 2 years. Then only 4 years later we get a sequel. And then Mario Maker 2 stops getting updates before it even reaches its 1 year anniversary. I've never played Splatoon, but did Nintendo really have to make a Splatoon 3 when Splatoon 2 still had an active player base and was literally on the same console?

Also I kinda hope that Mario Maker 3 remains as a 2D maker because there still seems to be so much more potential for 2D Mario creation. I would love to build 3D levels at some point but I would be heartbroken if they just scrap the 2D level builder completely. And yeah the fact we have a Splatoon 3 right now feels very unnecessary.

  • The world maker is great, but it just feels so...limiting. Five stages per world means that you can't have long branching paths, the bonus minigames just award 1ups and you don't keep powerups between stages. I feel like SMBX back in the day was better at that.

  • Before reading, these are just suggestions, and comment below to either add ideas or add on to ideas mentioned here. This was a really good update, but if Super Mario Maker 3 comes out, here are some things I think would be good to add: Classic Multiplayer - Players get turns playing instead of playing all at once; can be switched on or off for super worlds and maybe courses by the player, not maker. More Customizable Liquids - Place water, quicksand, lava, or poison where you want, maybe with sloped liquids similar to Super Mario World. Doors and Pipes - Yes, I know we have these, but maybe we could have an option on whether they lead to a different sub-world or not. More Sub-Worlds - Maybe, we could have up to 5 sub-worlds. Roulette Box - Place up to 5 Power-Ups in and get a random one! Speaker Boxes & Drawing boxes - This could be like Yoshi’s Island, where the box shows text and a picture showing you how to make eggs. More course themes - Take these into consideration, Mountain, Beach, Carnival (Like in Super Mario 3D World,) haunted forest, and more! Reusable P Switches - in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, I remember a reusable P Switch in a ghost house level. Enemies with Balloons - Like a parachute, but the enemies go up! More power-ups - Ice Flowers, Mini Mushroom, Mega Mushroom, and more!

    • Gonna be honest. Would buy Mario Maker 3 if it was still released on Switch as long as there's even more fun power-ups, enemies and tiles to play around with. Kinda wished Ice Flower, Mini Mushroom and Mega Mushroom were in but oh well.

  • Here’s a list of what I feel like this game still needs. It has so much more potential and I feel like it’s only scratched the surface. (Power Ups) This game added great power ups, but I feel like we could use a little more -Mini mushroom, this item is loved and hated by many, but this could add for some great creativity. -Ice Flower, should’ve been in MM1 -Penguin Suit, should’ve been in MM1 -Blue shell, another loved and hated by many. I feel like this is one of the lesser known items which is why it isn’t in. -Double Cherry, Would probably be hard to implement, but one of my top 3 power ups. -Super Crown, this one would make the least sense to add, but levels could get more creative -Hammer Suit, would be great to break brick with -Coin box, satisfaction (Styles) We still only have one style... -Mario galaxy, This could add a few items and remove a couple. I feel like this could work great. Just look at some of the 2D sections in galaxy. -Mario odyssey, Very different items just like 3d world. -Mario Bros 2, This is by far the most reasonable one. Pretty sure it was canceled which explains the new mushroom power up. (Enemies) There are so many enemies and I feel like we’re lacking a lot of them tbh. We still have the most basic ones that have yet to be implemented in -Shy Guys -Ice bros -Ice Piranha Plant -Fliprus -Huckit Crab -Jellybeam -Clampy -Fuzzys -Cooligan -Crowber -Dragoneel -Scaredy Rat -Brambal -Biddybud (Themes) Its great MM2 added some more themes, but I feel like there could be more from both course and world maker. -Beach, yeah we have underwater, but this could add so many enemies and creativity. -Mountain, how has this not been added... -Autumn, has been in a few games like 3d world and Origami king. It’s also a great alternate to the grassy fields. -Galaxy, has been done before with 3d world. This game has so much more potential. This games amazing and I love it. It’s sad to see this game get like 2 updates. No extra game styles or anything like that. I feel like the ice flower, the mountain and beach themes, and like half the enemies I mentioned are necessary for a Mario maker game.

    • Also I agree, even a Japanese game designer on Twitter is hoping that Mario 35 battle royale will move to Mario maker 2 sometime after March 31st, if his wish comes true, then maybe we’ll finally get these missing key elements that were missing in Mario maker 2.

  • Here are some differences I found that aren't in the final game: 2:03 The koopalings in the Super Mario world style look different from their final appearances 3:47 The little icon with the 2 snowmen are different from their final appearance, in the game, there is only 1 snowman
