How often does Hughes who has the puck more than anyone per 60 minutes ever get placed into a position to have to block shots? That's why it's a meaningless stat with respect to him not for the team.

He plays defense it would be impossible for him to not be in a position to block shots unless he thinks he's a forward and never plays his position. The point Murls is making is the playoffs is a different beast and playing that way won't win them a cup.

Hughes is a different type of player. At this stage in his career and the development of the Canucks, I mostly agree with Murls. Emphasis on Mostly. I think all three Hughes brothers need to start eating some red meat and hitting the gym if they wanna lead their groups to the promised land. He does so much though that the slack can be picked up elsewhere somewhat. Idk if Hronek should be their constant number 2 guy but if he can be or if they can find someone else a little more 2-way inclined that’s a mutant, that could help their chances surely

The problem with the stats Murls brought up for Quinn Hughes is it's comparing apples to oranges. In which of those seasons was there a Norris calibre defenseman at Hughes' size? When has there ever been one? There's never been an opportunity for a Hughes type defenseman to win the Stanley Cup in prior seasons, so of course you won't be able to find one.

If you're really going to pretend like the defenceman who should win the norris is the reason a team would lose a series, or that Quinn Hughes doesn't more than make up for any minor shortcomings in his game due to stature by being one of the best skaters, puck handlers and positional defenders in league - nevermind his offensive production, then you're not paying attention and your opinion is irrelevant. If murls looked at the real stats not the regular season for the Canucks he would see Hughes played 2 more minutes only 2 at 22 mins in game one and every defender was at about 19-20mins they shared the ice time this was in game 1 to the one we won to say Hughes needs to play 30+ mins cause the "slugs" on your team is a joke you look at all other defenders and they all around or bigger than the guys he's naming it's sad to see these east coasters that usually don't watch any games try and break down the West coast even earlier this year when they were coming after jets fans for not filling the arena then saying oh they can get a ticket for 39$ what's going on what 39$ USD before fees and taxes it was well over 100$CAD it's just painful to watch these guys that have never stepped foot in the city or arena tear teams down for nothing but internet clout 😂 true Vancouver fans have said since day one even when we were leading the presidents trophy race we'll be out 2nd maybe 3rd round if we're lucky you gotta lose to learn to win 08/09 Pens caps to the pens for years VGK to the caps Tampa the first year all lost you need that it's a painful shity feeling you use to make yourself better and personally murls I can name 100+ players from Vancouver that have similar of not more experience than you in the NHL or over seas you're an average beer leaguer here bud sorry you'll get the native flu or AHL flu as we call it if you played most div 1 beer leaguers out here bud 🤣 this ain't Sweden or America hockey is life here
