On Episode 467 of Spittin’ Chiclets, the guys are joined by Mick Vukota. Mick joined (01:56:59) to discuss his legendary career as an NHL enforcer. But before Mick’s hilarious interview, the guys talk about their weekends, the troubles in Edmonton, and what else is going on around the league. The boys also talk about the rumors circling around the NHL Draft and is RA really the worst thing to ever come out of Boston? The Anaheim Ducks seems to think so.

  • One of my all time favorite players to work with when I was head of PR for the Islanders. All stories here are true and lots more out there. Not said is that Mick is one of Isles' fans all time favorite players and when Isles signed him WHL fans came out of the woodwork looking for schedule info and satellite coordinates. Was also one of first to step up and help with charitable activities. Keep rolling, Mick.

  • Great job bringing Nick Vukota on the show boys. These are the guys you need to bring on the show with the great stories because this generation does not know how hockey was played in the 80’s. I grew up watching and playing in that generation and living in Alberta only knew he was a enforcer for the Islanders and at western boy. Keep up the good work Boys and keep brining these enforcers on the show. Would love to see if Dave Brown would be available in the near future.👍🏻

  • I’m a jets fan living in Winnipeg and G and Biz going on about $28 tickets is ridiculous. Tickets have just very recently dropped to around $65 but most games are still $80+ On another note I know a lot of people in Winnipeg are barely getting by and struggling to pay their rent. And the people that aren’t struggling are too sheltered to even step foot in downtown Winnipeg to go to the game. I work in downtown Winnipeg and I understand it can feel sketchy sometimes but the most safe I’ve felt downtown is during big events like Jets games.

    @randybeats9564@randybeats95646 ай бұрын
    • Economy in Canada is crap everywhere. Rent, groceries, utilities, car payments. At $80 a game + food and drink, transportation that's ~$150. Cant see that more than once a month on a 65K salary

    • I think they also failed to add that they probably saw the tickets in USD currency... In North America, we're all going through shit with inflation, but people forget, the Canadian dollar is the equivalent to glorified Monopoly money 🤑🤦‍♂️🙈

    • @@jehuspeen for sure, and you're even being conservative. I'd argue the cost on a night out at a game, even in somewhere like Winnipeg, is still easily $200+, when you factor in travel/parking, food, tickets, "fun" before or after the game, in whatever form you partake in. It's just a luxury most can't routinely afford anymore. This is a North American issue all over, but by extension the World too. The squeeze is real, even for those making what used to be "considered decent money/salary"

  • Remember watching Vukota play for the Grizzlies and winning the Turner Cup (IHL). He was there to enforce but he wasn't a complete goon, he'd go out there and contribute, big hits, and of course throw down. He a had signature way of fighting, keeping his right hand up by his eye, then he'd latch on and it was over for the other guy. To this day we still talk about Mick and see people rocking his #12. What a great interview.

  • 💯 The NHL is facing a serious, serious attendance problem. Inflation in North America is THROUGH THE ROOF, the cost of living in major cities is ASTRONOMICAL, and people aren't getting wage increases commensurate to the cost of living. Most people don't have too much extra disposable income to spend on hockey games. If your team isn't winning, the fans aren't coming. There's no easy fix to this problem either. Inflation has to cool SIGNIFICANTLY for people to breathe again...

    @SolarWarden88@SolarWarden886 ай бұрын
    • Exactly, people are working so much these days and making so little. When the average Joe has a little bit of down time we aren’t looking to spend hundreds of dollars at a sporting event especially if your team ends up getting spanked then you’ve wasted precious dollars and time.

  • Frustrating to hear these guys just blame Jets fans and not really dig a little deeper. I’m looking on Gametime right now, an hour before tonight’s jets/blues game and the cheapest ticket is 44$. I’m a bombers season ticket holder and it’s 250$ for 10 games. Thanks too, Whit, for shitting on the CFL. You don’t like one rule, so yea the whole league must be a joke. I’m a huge fan of the show and always will be, but honestly these guys sound like they’ve forgotten what it’s like to have average money. Like, they’re going from being like ‘should I build a pickle ball court on my at my mansion?’ To telling the average person they’re being greedy and not “paying back” the jets for signing players. It’s a hockey team, it’s your job to sign players. Not to mark up local beers to $14 a can. No spit, no lube, sandpaper finish. Winnipeg is a blue collar town and our average income is among the lowest in the country (something I’m sure Whit would love to poke fun at, too). TNSE has jacked up the prices for everything to the point where it’s unaffordable for so many people. And the in game experience ain’t great either. Players love playing in Vegas on the road, place is rockin. Why would the in game experience not matter for fans, just cause they’re Canadian? Come on boys. I’ll always listen to the show, and I’ll support the jets as much as I can, but it’s getting pretty tough listening to all these rich fucks blame the average person shit that’s out of our control. Maybe these guys will come to the Peg for a game (and a bomber game too, for a contrast of fan experience. IG Field is unbeatable). It’s a tough town, so Whit will probably hate it and shit all over it, but at least they’ll have a better perspective of what it’s like to be a Winnipeg fan.
