    • Actually, according to "Mayday: Air Disaster," rocket flame outs are not uncommon and do not mean the flight is in any immediate danger as they can fly with only one engine. It's not a good sign but not reason to panic. And it is a good idea to let the stewardess know.

  • Yes, I have seen some amazing things from aircraft. When my family and I were traveling to Texas in an Airbus A320, I spotted two different 727s at Austin Bergstrom and San Antonio airports from two different aircraft. As 727s are exceptionally rare these days, I can say that I have been extremely lucky to spot these two. One of them was active, a USA Jet 727 Freighter, and the other one was a retired FedEx 727, apparently stored there and waiting for its scrapping. I spotted this in April of 2023, a time where less than 40 Boeing 727s are still in service and only about 10 in the United States.

  • Living in NJ it's not uncommon to drive on one of several highways near Newark airport. It's amazing to watch the precision shown during busy times (most times) as the planes land and take off about every 30 seconds. Scariest flight I ever had was taking off out of O'Hare airport in Chicago. Because of the geography, the plane has to climb to 2,000 within the first minute of taking off. It's hair raising. It feels like you're at the beginning of a roller coaster ride. But it's a plane.

  • I've got another explanation for the Red Lights. Those photos could be depicting a kind of lightning-like phenomenon called "red sprites." They occur at altitudes between 5 and 25 kilometers over intense thunderstorms that produce especially intense lightning discharges that cause the positive charge at the top of thunderstorms to momentarily reverse. This causes an electrical discharge in the stratosphere and/or mesosphere that produces that eerie red glow. However this is less plausible since red sprites only last a few thousandths of a second, but it's still a possibility.

I thought at the time it was a silly art installation, but found out that the two aircraft had a mid air collision the day before and landed while conjoined.

  • I've only flown once, and that was from the airport in Copenhagen to Charles De Gaulle in Paris. I did fly back to Copenhagen airport. When i was at the Charles De Gaulle airport, i actually got to see a Concorde. By that point, the Concorde hadn't flown in years, because it was after the infamous Concorde accident, but hey, i at least got to see aviation history right there and then. I have also seen a few Jas Gripen jet fighters, the fighter jet the Swedish air force uses, close by. Funnily enough, Sweden is likely to donate a few Jas 39 Gripen to Ukraine. If you don't know what gripen means, it's the Swedish word for griphon, the magical, flying beast with four legs, wings and the head of an eagle. I have also seen the flying barrel. It's the first fighter jet Sweden used, and it got it's nickname because it looks like a barrel. Sweden sure knows how to make fighter jets and planes in general. The Saab planes in one of few industries that will never be aquired by foreign companies, they're that important. Considering that it's fighter jets, i can understand why my native Sweden refuses to sell the Saab Aero space industries.

    • I'm Swedish. Gripen means "caught" or "touched". A police officer can "gripa" (arrest, catch) someone and the perpetrator is then "gripen".

      @asonofgod7267@asonofgod72679 ай бұрын
    • @@asonofgod7267 gripen is also the word for griphon, the magical four legged bird-like animal. I'm Swedish too, and Gripen as in the plane got it's name from a mytholigical animal, not from someone getting arrested/caught. You know nothing about the different words and that several things can share one word. USA is called America, but isn't the entire Americas. In the case of Jas 39 Gripen, it's named after the mythomogical creature that exists in Greek mythology. Same thing with Jas Viggen, or Thunderbolt as the english translation, or the Flyggande tunnan, or Dlying barrel in english

I'm actually terrified of going on planes so other than all the traveling I did as a 2 years n younger with my parents before they split I've only been on a plane a handful of times, videos like this just show more reasons to avoid air travel. I did want to comment about those wild fires and how the sky's look all orange, they also look like that on the ground too. When your living in a city that got evacuated due to wild fires burning it down you get an up close and personal view of those terrifying sky's. It was just this summer and I recall how no matter what time of day it was you could look outside and there was an Erie glow even in the middle of the night. I actually told everyone that it was just like living in a zombie apocalypse.

  • One of the worst air traffic disasters in history occurred during takeoff. It happened at a small island airport that was unusually packed with traffic because an explosion had occurred at a nearby, much bigger continental airport and inbound traffic was re-routed to the small airport while the bigger airport was temporarily closed. The planes were stuck for hours impatiently waiting for the major airport to reopen, and during that wait a heavy fog moved in. The fog caused confusion in the traffic tower which was compounded by an impatient pilot who failed to follow proper safety procedures. The pilot initiated a takeoff while another passenger jet was moving across the runway, and the planes and tower couldn't see the danger until it was too late. Just as the plane taking off was lifting off the ground they crashed into the top of the plane moving across and the collision killed everyone on board the plane taking off and most of the people in the plane they hit.

    @persona2grata@persona2grata6 ай бұрын
  • All in all, when you consider how massive the airline industry is and how many planes and pilots fly through the skies every minute of every day, plus all of the smaller personal planes, it's a testimony to the careful design of traffic control that there are as few incidents as there actually are. I might be wrong, but I don't think any other industry with as much potential for loss of life can claim such a rock solid safety record.

  • No they won't fly head on in Sidney! Both landing and TakeOff are performed with headwind, so as long as it's not completely no wind at all (which is kinda unrealistic), they will start and land in the same direction!

  • 20:06 A similar incident happened on flight 1380 on the SAME airline where the left hand engine exploded which yeeted a peice of the engine into a window causing a passenger sitting beside the window to fly out and also depressurising the cabin. South west airlines is really unsafe in my opinion :/
