  • As an old Army dude that drove the H1 all over the place I can say for certain that thing is an absolute monster. We could never get it stuck. I floated one down a river for a qtr mile and once it hit bottom drove straight across to the other side....amazing tech.

  • The tyres make a massive difference, the road tyre treads get filled with mud and are like slicks. Try it on tarmac.

    • Also the cable is at an angle. For the benefit of the Hummer. Only variables that really make a difference are the tires, weight of the car, angle of the cable and power conversion. A Suzuki Swift with the right gearbox (power conversion with high torque) tractor tires and enough weight will win from the Hummer

  • Was assigned to a Humvee in the Army as an 11H10 TOW anti armor operator. We pulled out tanks in the mud with the correct pulley setup. 55 tons with no problem

    • Laurent Cardinal you have to consider he said the correct pulley setup, we have pulled an m1 abrams out of a ditch with a snatch 2a, the tank would have to run otherwise there is 50 square meters of dead friction and nye on 60 tonnes + the force to lift it out of the stuck position and to break the vacuum of the mud and the under tub. But it’s worth noting to have a hope in hell you need a serious setup of pulleys ans “snatch blocks” so the actual amount being pulled is being geared down near 10 times and lifting up slightly

  • That shows nicely the effet of proper off-road tires and actual torque at the wheels. The hummer has portal axles, that reduce the total gearing further, giving it a total reduction in 1st of around 40:1. That combined with the torque conbverter increaing torque gives something around 30-40000 Nm at the wheels combined.

    • It does have portals, and they do technically double the torque to the wheels, but it all depends on the rest of the gearing in the truck, it is just a part of the overall gear ratio. If my googling skills are up to scratch the lowest low range on the G63 is 35:1, the lowest low range on the H1 (including portals) is 44.5:1. So it's lower than the G63, but not THAT much lower. The reason for this is that 1st gear in the H1 (the ratio in the actual gearbox, excluding portals and rear diff) is 3.10:1, compared to the G63's 5.35:1 (at least on the 2020 model).

    • Egerit nobody with a brain is going to go off-roading in a car with all seasons on. When factors as little as tire psi can determine a win in this type of situation you’d have to genuinely not know shit about off-roading or the concept of grip to believe that they are evenly matched. Yes the hummer is using oem recommended tires but those are oversized and specifically off-road purpose built tires. I stand by my previous statement as if all 3 of those cars had tires to match the hummer’s, it would be much more evenly matched.     • @@devashish8888 while it is true that for the same horsepower given, diesel engines will produce more torque, here, despite the g63 being petrol, it still had more torque (the h1 is heavier still).And in a tug of war it's about weight and being able to put that torque down, which the g63 can't do well on grass since it has road tires, compared to the h1's massive off-road tires.
