MalaMala Safari Moments: Episode 93.
An action-packed sighting as the sub adults from the Kambula pride and one lioness take on a buffalo bull.
...
From MalaMala Game Reserve to wherever you are in the world, we'll bring you moments from our daily safaris in one of Africa's most iconic private game reserves. This is essentially a continuation of our 'Rangers in Isolation' series which was filmed during the national Lockdown.
Imagine being surrounded by so many lions trying to kill him and still being able to resist and survive. Incredible animal.
True
That buffalo was older but not that old. Still very strong and muscular. Probably at the tail end of his prime. He was a tank. Full of energy that entire fight.
Why did you use the word "Tail end"? I need to know.
Kambula boys are going be to a presence as a coalition. Amazing sighting!
“Going to a presence”? Just what presence are they going to?
@@lovecats2668 error in semantics grow up
Wow! That is one tough bull! I thought they would get him down. He did not have a herd or buddies to help him and he still survived. Incredible!
Take that young fella!
Mike D….HE MADE IT….by the “skin of his tail” 😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, but for how long?
This is why the old male buffalo are so dangerous. They are used to this happening and when confronted with danger stand their ground or even charge. They even hold grudges; if this buffalo comes across a lone lion in the future it might charge and attack it.
The lions didn't stay on top of him long enough to weigh him down. They kept jumping on and off. The key to success is to have a lioness stay on top of his back. These Kambulas don't seem to be experienced in buffalo hunting like the Nkuhumas are.
Brilliant confidence and strength displayed by this bull. Well and truly above 1500lb and very versatile. Look at the boss on him, equipped with over 1m horns. Too powerful
Its absolutely amazing how these animals get ripped open etc... and just stand there. That grip from lion is pretty real. ❣
Wonderful sighting. Those youngsters really honing their skills for the future. The buffalo got away in the end but the lions learnt valuable lessons, especially the little one tossed around like a rag doll.
Mr Buffalo, thank you for giving life. Bravo young lions. Be safe. Live well. Be free oh the magnificent beings.
Lol you do know that the buffalo either succumbed to his wounds or was later hunted down by predators who smell blood and don't give up (hyenas and wild dogs) or even worse seasoned male lions.
@@BoskiM not necessarily. Some of the seemingly knowledgeable commenters pointed out that buffalos with mangled or even missing tails is fairly common. If this bull rejoined his herd, he would be fine. Also never heard of wild dogs taking down a bull.
@@jetguy6535 "Mangled or missing tails" .....sure.....this buffalo suffered serious wounds around the anus. A slow miserable death seems more likely. He's probably targeted by hyenas or other more confident lions .
I am so very proud of them. I know they have brought one down recently. This is so important for their future. Everyone looks fantastic. The boys are so handsome and getting big just like their fathers. Thanks Guys as Always .
Whoa Kimberly, this was hard to watch. They are beautiful lions and learning well.

@Jenny Brown definitely, I feel weak viewing this video😯
So many lions, still buffalo managed to survive. What a fighter!
For those looking for the toss 6:54
The best buff-lion interaction I've seen. Tremendous determination by the buffalo to confront a whole lion pride and eventually claim victory. WHY DO LIONS LIVE IN PRIDES? is an interesting question. This video shows one answer: in order to tackle buffalo! The most important answer. should you be interested, is in order to secure a territory and resources.
This is pathetic on the lions part. I've seen 7 wolves bring down a bull bison that weigh about 1.5 tons. Much bigger and much more powerful than buffalo. 7 wolves is less than the amount of lions here and lions are much bigger than wolves so just puts into perspective the power of these animals
@v x @v x American gaurs are more passive than bison. Like I've seen vids of gaur walking in streets of India. Thats unthinkable with bison, they are too aggressive. Gaurs are also not as powerful . In the vid below is of a bison charging at another make weighing over a ton and taking it into the air flipping jt almost upside down and throwing it across the road. A gaur could never do that. They are too weak. Their necks would snap. Bison of much bigger heads and skulls. Scientists have proven their heads are built to absorb impacts more than any other herbivores which is why they can do that. Bison are also harder to kill because they are extremely bulky. Their fur and fat are so thick that a feline using its claws wouldn't even scratch them😂 Their skin is not as exposed as a buffalo or gaur, that's why lions and tigers can bite their necks but things as large as bears can't kill a bull bison because there is no point of entry. Their necks and other vitals are too protected by their bulk to just bite or claw it. They adapted to do that because they survive in the harshest and coldest conditions so they have to be more bulky than any herbivores and the plus is being the hardest to kill out of all cattle. Yes gaurs are bigger but their long necks makes it easier for predators to grab and kill them by. Thats why the only animal that successfully and frequently hunts bull bison is a pack of wolves. Nothing else on earth can kill them frequently like that. A big cats tactics simply can't work against them. kzhead.info/sun/ltiHiJmBjXyhY3k/bejne.html
@@samo6083 lion pride would still dominate a wolf pack.
The Buffalo earned another day to live.
Maybe another day ......,most likely he will get weaker by the day from infection and the serious wounds he had on his rear end , which would make it impossible to relieve normally.

It was an amazing sighting. We were kind of happy to see the Buffalo escape!
Me too but it probably died later due to infections.
Hu
The nature has taken its course. Look at the strength of the buffalo.
Glad you told us that the buffalo was able to escape to dance again.
Buffalo win! Great!
Good footage and was pleased to actually be able to hear the Natural Sounds instead of Loud Annoying Music that seems to accompany most wildlife videos these days. On another note , having watched thousands of wildlife videos over the years with Lions / Buffalo etc, it always amazes me how the Buffalo just seem to stand still with the Lion right behind it hanging on its tail and biting it for long periods of time, with out the Buffalo reacting much. I know in this video the Buffalo does Toss one of the Lions, but there is still a lot of times where the Lions are right behind the Buffalo. Why doesnt the Buffalo buck and kick back into the Lions chest as its right behind, this would probably shatter the chest of the Lion. Also why doesnt the Buffalo just run off at full speed instead of standing around in same spot. Have seen this sort of behaviour in dozens of videos. It always seems to me that the Buffalo, Wildebeest or whatever it may be in these videos never seem to fight back with Massive aggression ,kicking Stomping Charging the the Lions. With there weight and power i would have thought they would fight back much more fiercly than they do.
the Buffalo defense is to face the danger , the lion go past his line of sight and he turns to face them . It is Incredible
Bravo,Bravo.Buffalo gladiator 👍👍.
Whoever is behind the cameras, they need to zoom out a bit. Too much interesting action is lost off frame because of zooming in too much.
He got the upper hand all the time, tired the Lions, won their respect until he decided to end the right with some bruises. Amazing.
Excellent wildlife show... congratulations
Strong buffalo
That Bull didnt let out a single distress call that entire encounter. He didnt call for help once. Interesting. He was up for the challenge and knew he wasnt going to lose
Bravo bravo búfalo 🐃💪💪💪
Buffalo only lost his tail...amazing strength!
They are learning quickly Well done on the Kambula pride part (Beautiful pride ) Especially that young male at the back that was hanging on for so long (Though it takes time to be a pro like the Nkuhumas ;) ) Was that poor lioness that was tossed in the air ok ? (No injuries ? ) They will be a formidable force with a few more months those youngsters Great of the buffalo to have fought hard to live though and made it another day in the bush He will have stories to tell to younger bulls
Franco pace e a te e tutta la tua famiglia
Excellent!!!👍🏿👏🏿👌🏿✌🏿
This is a magnificent scene. Nature at its best. The sub adults are learning how to hunt, so this experience is helpful to them as well. They learned a lot of from this, it’s all a part of the growth process and learning to become an efficient hunter. Though of always wonder why don’t they just bite at or grab hold to the legs of prey when they have them surrounded like this. Injured leg(s) mean easier meal, broken leg(s) means a guaranteed meal.
Maybe its dificult to hold legs when The animal is still strong
Easy to gore a lion biting legs because when buffalo turns only the one biting the tail can escape the horns (it rotates with buffalo), Lions are large and bulky - they play to their strengths - like jumping on prey's back to use weight to take it down.
They also need to avoid hooves
They're stupid. Merely biting the testicle will paralyze it. Tigers and hyenas are better hunters than lions. Lions are too clumsy
Búfalo 🐃💪💪💪💪💪
This pride has many subadult male lions, it s definetly good for them to make a prospective coallition in the future after leaving their own pride.
Nope. Terrible idea
Buffalo Buscular very strong💪 he was the tank full energy to win
Incredible video. I wanted the lions to be successful in bringing down the buffalo, at the same time, I wanted the buffalo to get away.
Nature is so brutal.

😯 MM.. Video Definitely right up there w/Matshapiri males and Sparta one. Just younger!
Great warrior buffalo 👍
Intelligent and experienced buffalo 🐃
The description of the bull is off for sure,.. that's an impressive bull Buffalo far from old!
Atravs . Of coarse the purpose for the title is to continue overrate & hype the lion as king, so when they fail it's NEVER because of how good & clever their opponents are, but always because either the lion was too old & weak, or too young & inexperience, doesn't matter even if it's two prides combined, clearly we can see young males, but adult lioness was there as well.
@@noirnoble1181 Am only talking about the bull Buffalo its pretty impressive as far as the lions there was definitely inexperience! I have seen only 2 male lions take down an impressive bull Buffalo but that takes long time experience
@@atravs6971 & I'm only referring to why the video is titled that way, which is the reason you state "the description of the bull is off".

I said the same thing to my husband (who couldn’t care less about my Safari commentary) right before the guide. “These are the teenage/sub adult lions, their fathers, or the rest of their mothers, would’ve had this Buffalo down before the 2 minute mark.”
can we get an update on the lion that was thrown?
Hospitalised.

Alone helpless Buffalo much braver than a pride got the better off and escaped! Rare of the rarest !
Strong Buffalo 💪💓👍!!
This is the real boss of the jungle. Cape buffalo. The one fighting dauntlessly against ten/twelve. Hardly any of them dare challenge the Boss from the front, attacking and trying to bring the Boss down by catching tail.
The Kambula pride was never good at hunting buffaloes, although it is the subs who are most of the times engaged in the buffalo hunts and i hope they will become good buffalo hunters with time. On the other hand Nkuhuma pride members are expert buffalo hunters.

The Kambula's are not good buff hunters and hence the youngsters have no clue how to get it under control and kill it. Although they are like 5-6 sub adult males, none could do anything as they have not been trained on this subject.
They just killed one week or so ago.. buffalo is hard to kill, this one was big and managed to escape.
They just choose the wrong buffalo. This was too healthy yet. It was not the time of his death.
@@tr1x243 Actly I am not saying that, I Heard a guide say that Kambulas are not good buff hunters and today I saw the proof, as the youngsters and even a lioness with them did not know much on how to kill it.
@@salmanbinahmed8253 Kambulas are not known for killing buffaloes, but they did kill them quite a lot lately as subadults grown up. These where all subadults with only 1 adult lioness, and as i said that was big bull and they didnt have the power to bring him down.. Not all buffalo hunt attempts are succesfull, even from buffalo specialist's.. you have on WildEarth last year, 7 adult Nkuhuma lionesses (known for buffalo hunting) and 2 Avocas males couldn't kill a big bull jus like this one. So i wouldn't be too harsh on these subadults, they are learning, tehnique is good, they just lacked power to bring big bull like that down..
@@tr1x243 Nkuhumas and Avocas couldnt kill a buff? Wow. they are specialists of big game, well if that can happen, this isnt that big of a deal. Hope the young boys learn quickly cos they are gigantic ( for their age ) and they will need big meals from time to time.

Buffaloes are some of the toughest motherfuckers in the animal kingdom. These lions didn't know what kind of a battle they were in for.
Was that one of the under-two-year-old subs jumping on the bull's back at around 0:40 or just a smaller female sub?
The buffalo was me in "Shadow of Mordor" getting surrounded by orcs then running through a pack of caragors to get away. Or me getting attacked by caragors and running towards a graug.
