116th Congress swearing in: Nancy Pelosi House Speaker vote
The 116th Congress will be seated Thursday, with Democrats taking the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives after eight years out of power. The first order of business is electing Rep. Nancy Pelosi to be House speaker for the second time.
The House is set to convene at noon. After Pelosi is confirmed, the new members will be sworn in. Members will then vote on a new rules package to govern conduct in the House during the 116th Congress. Once the ceremonial parts of the day are completed, the session may get more contentious.
Pelosi has announced plans to pass a spending bill immediately she takes the gavel on Thursday in order to end the government shutdown. However, the bill does not include funding for a border wall, so President Trump has said that he will not sign it. Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that the Senate will not vote on a bill which would not receive the president's approval.

Here in Philippines,senate has to total of PHP 1 billion expenses individually for 24 senators and PHP 4 billions for 250 congressmen(per head) amazing thing for Philippine island to run out with,Philippine is simply a small island but the expenditure of the lawmakers are big,.Filipino people are allowing it.The way I observe it its overpricing for their services.It didn't happen in the history of the senate and congress of the republic of the Philippines that the expenses is being express in foreign currency,not Philippine Peso.I don't know if what would be the reactions of the politicians(Flipinos) if they are pro or against the proposal.I am not a DBM(department of of budget and management) specialist but the way I look at it,Its not good,disadvantage for Filipino people.Knowing the fact that U.S.A president is now receiving $1 per year salary instead of accepting $400,000.00 per year.America is the biggest economy but the salary of president is already like that,$1 per year.Philippines must think many times before giving salary to those Filipino lawmakers.
