Kim Jong Un's staff struggles to line train up with red carpet

2019 ж. 23 Сәу.

The armored train that delivered Kim Jong Un to Russia on April 24 encountered a minor hiccup, as the train car door did not line up with the red carpet laid out for Kim's platform arrival.
The blunder did not appear to faze the North Korean leader, whom stepped out of his khaki-green armoured train in far-eastern Russia, smiling and upbeat ahead of a much-anticipated summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin
The summit Thursday comes amid deadlocked global diplomacy over North Korewa's nuclear program.
Dressed in a black coat and a fedora, Kim first met Wednesday with Russian officials at Russia's Khasan train station near its border with North Korea before travelling on to Russia's Pacific port city of Vladivostok for a summit Thursday with Putin.

    • Yet every subway driver in the world has figured out how to align the train with the platform

      @AlexVandeSande@AlexVandeSandeАй бұрын
    • @@AlexVandeSandeno they haven't, basically every subway train in the world is automatic which means the train drives itself which means it can carry on complex mathematical equations so that it stops precisely where it needs to, but a human can't do that becayse they don't have access to the exact numbers of speed and position of the train and cant calculate exactly when to hit the brake, besides the fact that humans have a rather slow reaction time compared to computers if you're wondering "well if trains drive themselves why do they have drivers", many don't actually have drivers and when they do all the driver does is activate the doors and take over into manual operation when the train's self driving mechanism makes a mistake when subway trains are used in manual operation you will notice that they don't stop as precisely as you might think another factor is that metro trains have distributed power (all the carriages have motors and brakes) which helps with precision because that makes the train able to stop and accelerate faster since all the mass of the train contributes to moving the train the supreme leader's train is hauled by locomotive which means all the braking and traction power is concentrated in a single unit, which makes it harder to stop and accelerate the train, which means metro style precision is not possible

      @junovzla@junovzla21 күн бұрын
    • @@AlexVandeSandeMost metro trains around the world are mostly automated, and also much lighter than even normal trains. North Korea runs a lot of ancient Soviet technology. Plus Kim Jong Un's train weighs something ridiculous with all that armour plating!

      @andrewbailey7999@andrewbailey799918 күн бұрын
    • @@AlexVandeSande Difference between fully pneumatic, and electronically controlled pneumatic brakes. Old railway carriages almost exclusively use the pneumatic system which has a significant time delay between giving the command to brake or release, and the brakes actually doing something. That can be about one or two seconds for a handful of carriages, all the way up to the better part of a minute for giant american freight trains. The entire brake pipe has to be filled with air or fully emptied, and that air needs time to escape. Besides that, every traditional coupler has a bit of slack in it, meaning that you can stretch or compress the entire train a bit without the final car moving at all. With the electronically controlled brakes that all metro systems have, the brake command is instant, and the coupling between the different cars is usually rigid because they're one fixed train set/EMU. That makes it much easier to delicately control the movement of the entire train.
