  • To add some context, before 2012 clay season, Nadal lost 7 consecutive finals to Djokovic: Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome, Wimbledon, US Open in 2011 and Australian Open 2012.

    • @@jacobschmidt2709 Maybe, maybe not because the dunlop tennis balls played much faster for some reason in 2022. Yes, I would partially agree in the sense the odds of novak winning were 60-40 in 2022 (Nadal said he was the favourite before the tournament started) compared to 90-10 in 2023 because the Dunlop tennis balls played much slower (as they usually do). Even then it wasn't easy for Rafa to win, but had the same tennis balls played anything like 2023 Medvedev or Djokovic would have beaten him. Rafa has lower chances in night conditions with slower tennis balls. In 2020 he had a tight match with thiem but couldn't execute when it mattered. Again slower tennis balls that became even slower at night. but in 2022 his chances were higher and while still a minor miracle of sorts, he seized his opportunities unlike 2012 or 2017

  • as an old school fan of the handful of really dominant players from the 70s, 80s and 90s, one of the reasons why I enjoy watching matches between the Novaks, Rogers, Rafas and Murrays, is because they all play and compete like GLADIATORS...the gesturing and wide open-mouth yells, fist pumps and arm waving is like what you would see in a Roman coliseum, with one warrior pitted against another one. And these guys embrace the drama and "theater' of it all. And if it does nothing else, it sure does create an atmosphere that keeps you on the edge of your seat. People so often forget that tennis just like any other popular sport, is entertainment, before anything else...because the crowd is PAYING to be excited and captivated.
