Bought my car with lowering springs. Every bump felt like doing a dirt jump in a horse and carriage. Installed coilovers, now every bump feels like god is carrying me over it.
Sounds like the shocks weren't matched to the springs tbh
I've heard the opposite affect. Appreciate your comment I am indecisive when it comes to this.
@@jayman4268 you can get junk coilovers, or junk lowering springs. You can also get perfectly capable coilovers or lowering springs, read reviews and find what you want. If you're really really worried and want coilovers, get KW.
@@biggabenne thanks brother! I will continue doing research.
I have Koni street shocks with H&R Sport Springs on my integra. The car feels like it’s never been lowered.
You go to car shows ? You track your car ? Your city/neighborhood has bumpy roads ? Get Coilovers. You just want to be lower? You have smooth neighborhood roads ? You go for random drives or just daily your car ? Get Springs. If you’re on a budget springs (HR or Eibach) would be best. More than half the price of the cheapest Coilovers. But if you got some money , or your driving a car that looks like you have money , get Coilovers. Just what I’ve learned from asking people who have had both and reading the comments on the forums
Your answer is what I needed bc that’s exactly what it is.
Yeah I been tryna figure out what to do with my 15 encore. I also ihave to buy cruze and sonic performance parts, and well make them work. Because it the same engine and tranny. Just different chassis.
Got springs but I wanna be lower. Going coils
Do coilovers mean it has to be a harder ride?
If you decide to go the lowering spring route, its best to upgrade the struts as well or else you will wear out the OEM shocks prematurely...
fancy seeing u here Bendaga!
I'm running H&R spring on Koni Yellows. I prefer the simplicity of my setup because my build is centered around daily driven performance.
I prefer Eibach Springs with the Eibach shocks all I want is 1.3 in the f and 1.4 in the back, I don’t need to be dialing a coilover I’m not going to drag racing.
Hows ur ride quality?
@evanaustin8883 I had these springs on stock suspension and it was smooth. Debating if I should do it again but this car would be used so idk
I have H&R too
Same H&R spring 🙌🏻
I’ve had both. Springs first on a MKIV GTI, super mild drop. Then coils on a B6 Audi A4, and now I’m back to Springs (and shocks. H&R with Bilstein shocks), on my MK7 GTI. Coilovers are great. But once dialed in I never fully used them to their full capacity, so springs are great for my needs. It all depends for what you’re coming to use them for.
YES!,.. WELL SPOKEN, MY LITTLE AUTOMOTIVE PIMP
Hey I have a MK7 GTI and I’m struggling between lowering it with springs or coils. You mentioned you have Bilstein shocks and H&R springs, How does the ride feel ?? What’s your setup ? How low did you go ? I want coils but there a little expensive and tbh once I dial in the height I don’t think I’ll really use them to full capacity.
I have a mk6 Jetta did you use springs for daily driver
@@StingerFloo just saw this. The ride is a bit stiffer than stock, but manageable. Corners extremely well. Reduced body roll.

You all teach me a lot about cars. Including Wheel sizes, and suspension
Lowering springs might be cheaper but it will end up more expensive because you will lower the car but the stock shock absorber is meant for the stock height with stock springs and if you lower it, the stock shocks will start to overheat because of the lowered range of motion and they are basically working extra hard.
Keep in mind lowering any car changes the control arm/trailing arm/subframe related geometries, there are aftermarket bushings that can correct these adjustments, or also replacement adjustable control arms, tubular subframes, etc.
I say, just remove the springs completely. Only use your shocks for that nice 👌 lowered stance 😂

You running off the stock struts with thr lowering springs? If so, how do they hold up? Drive, car pack with people? Thanks.
please do more videos like this explaining all the other stuff you actually need to install parts! Would be great information for people coming into the car scene and wanting to modify cars (Me being one of them) and not knowing all the extra bits and pieces you need that people dont talk about for install Turbos, Exhaust, Intake, Suspension, Brakes etc. Would be a awesome series imo!
Just spent the weekend installing coil overs and wheels on my 14 Camaro 2lt and see this vid. Still need an alignment but I swear this feels great.
Hey now!!! My Fiesta ST has rear torsion and the thing rips, they aren't all bad!! You can even run a coilover set up on it too🤙
I ordered eibach lowering springs and can't wait for them, not a huge drop, but enough for some good looks and a better center of gravity
Most cases I'd say coilovers are- but I bought my G37 on an eibach pro spring kit and it's perfect. It's the exact height I want- performance is good, and my wheel fitment is damn near perfect so no complaints here
what’s your wheel setup ?
yea 1200 is alot when your car is 1200 💀
Coilovers are a must for me cause I’m super ocd about my fitment. But on budget daily builds, always gotta go lowering springs!
Great Show! Yeah, I just bought sum coilovers and I can't wait to get'em on and dial in bruh! Keep the shows poppin!
I've had great experience with Dinan lowering springs on my F30 335i. It wasn't an extreme drop. Good enough to clean up aesthetics, but not ridiculously "slammed". Ride feels pretty close to stock and body roll improved nicely. Overall, no complains and saved at least a grand vs coilovers.
Dinan is top notch. Had them on my E30 M3.
When he said Yaris, I felt that. Daily’s need cheap low
MSS adjustable springs. on my 18 RS3 . Love it
I guess I'm getting the lowering springs. My 2019 Honda Accord 2.0T Touring has the fancy electronic Adaptive suspension system.
I have Eibach lowering springs on my 03 acura tl. All im going for is the looks and plus i only go in a straight line. Fast foward 11 years later the suspension is still good and is still smoove.
I love watching this guy Everytime he pops up in a new vid 💯🔥🙏
Iszac Moore i find him very annoying, and talks with his hands like some amateur rapper.
If you just want the factory fender gap gone and not be slammed lowering springs will be fine. In case your shocks do fail relatively fast you can always opt to fit upgraded shocks as well. This will make the end cost be as much as coilovers but you split the cost over a couple of years, in case they do fail of course. On the plus side if you get decent brands for both you'll probably have a longer lasting and more comfortable setup.
Yeah I’m going with springs not to sure on lowering in general so this would be a learning experience to see if I actually like them
You can lower the car more with coilovers, you can always put your car back up if you're swapping to some bigger wheels that need some more clearance.
Year later but ty for this comment
Okay so yeah coilovers do allow you to adjust the height ? Because I want to add bigger tires to my car Snd have a body kit to it but I don’t want it super low and obviously don’t want body kit with tiny wheels . Do you know how much height it adds ? Like a couple inches or what
@@ivanpaulino4375 most coilovers will allow you to adjust the height and will come with a "minimum" drop, for example "35-65mm drop". It's easy to spot but since you're asking this question you should probably do some more research.

I was waiting for this video. Also nice Green and blue light in background
My 87 Honda CRX Si has torsion bar setup in the front, fortunately a company named Heeltoe Automotive worked with Tein to make a Coilovers kit, since there are torsion bars in front, it’s only dampers for the front, and you adjust the torsion bars for ride height.
Finally, real good advice on lowering your car. Thanks mate!

Will Vaughn 6.3 I have a Audi A4 2009 FWD sitting on 19 inch.. what u think I should goo ??
Coilovers are shit unless it's a track car
Here's my take. Was thinking about coilovers for my 04 TSX. I've decided though to get Koni adjustable shocks with a set of H&R lowering springs. I'm never going to mess with the ride night and I do plan on tracking the car every now and then. I think an adjustable shocks and lowering spring is the way to go for me.
I have to run Eibach springs on my 05 330xi. The only coilovers setups that are available for my car is over 3,000$! I paid 279$ on your website a few months ago for those lowering springs, and bam bro. I got beautiful fitment and still enjoy my stock bilstein shock setup. Best of all
I run lowering springs with nonadaptive stock shocks.. theyre a great option if you know what to look for.. Do research on springrates, linear vs progressive springs, and what the shocks are engineered to handle.. My track pack mustang rides like stock but feels way more tactile and handles a lot better as a result of a set of linear bmr springs 😊
Thanks I'm gonna do more research for my encore. My first car was a mustang I got for 300 bucks.
Personally, PERSONALLY, after owning both switching between many brands expensive and inexpensive for 10+ years being stanced, slammed, dumped, lowered, you name it. I like me some good old stock suspension rebuilt with adjustable dampening and upgraded sway bars(not to be commonly mistaken with strut bars) strut bars may help improve chassis rigidity, so it may also be a plus to help handling by a very small percentage when it comes to time. Best part about this setup is not having to worry about bumps or dips as often, damaging the natural structure of the coinciding suspension components, and overall comfort on a daily basis with improved handling on the twistes.
Man I first discovered adjustable dampening with my 04 Banshee limited. Pfft had the KYB agx's on my GTI like a month later lol.
About lowering springs, I often hear they can cause OEM shocks to wear out quite prematurely? Now I'm no engineer but that makes sense to me bc you are shortening the range in which OEM shocks were designed to operate? Anyone with actual experience/knowledge care to educate a fellow enthusiast?
It's true.
Well they wouldnt say it if it wasnt true
It can be true if the coils are softer or the same rate as the oem springs. You want to make sure the lowering springs are actually harder than the oem so it doesnt put additional pressure into the tower strut
eesh also some lowering springs like my Tein S Techs, wanted me to actually cut the bump stop a certain length. I believe that this keeps that balance. Also keep in mind some companies will offer lowering springs as an option for the car so if you are going aftermarket, try to find something within their specs since the company designed it to work the stock strut and shock.
I'd suggest getting shocks that match the springs instead of running stock ones for most cars tbh
Baught my car with lowering springs...CAN'T WAIT TO GET THE TEIN FLEX Z🔥
That is a good set of coilovers :D
thanks, just bought some tein lowering springs.
Coilovers... I keep watering the Money Tree as I would really like to have the ' No Weld' KW Kit for the E30.
My GTR came with Active Suspension Dampening, so i opted for KW Sleeve Kit making my factory shocks ride height adjustable. My Q50 now has the same thing, but I want to dial in my wheel fitment and no one makes a sleeve kit so I might just go for BC Coils.
Can never let Go of Jasper, REAL OGs know of the Jasper days, always good to see him return when he's in the area.
Coilovers is the best option right here but lowering springs is also good if you’re on a budget
BASITH PH cough are cough
Why do either when you can have cut springs. . .
I like the way you think 😂
Ive got cut springs on my 106 gti, and to be fair it rides just fine 😂
Bad idea unless you want to ruin your suspension.. sure it is cheap, but either of the other options have a similar to factory spring rate
Cuting your springs is dangerus the spring can catch the wheel i recomend just removing them
@@petterkarlen2749 guys, i got the complete spring setup removed, took the tension of the spring, and then cut out a ring. I put the tension back on, and put hose clamps on both the top and bottom, tightening them really good. I can't do anything else, because in the racing class I'm in you can't use coilovers, or use a lowering spring. So if you want to be faster in the corners, you need to lower your car by cutting the springs. This makes the damper sit deeper so the car is stiffer, and your center of gravity is lower. I've done one full season so far with the car with about 6 racing weekends, and I've also been on two wheel through a corner. And yet when I was refreshing my car this winter, the springs were still on very tight, because of the hose clamps. So yes, I do recommend cutting your springs if youre really low on costs, but please use hose clamps.
Depends, video hit it on the head; newer cars have EDC or Mutant Magnetic super powers, so only the highest end aftermarket coilovers are "worth" over OEM it if you're looking for both performance and looks. If you could care less, you're still gonna gain that adjustment ability from a standard coilover. Lowering springs get you that hotboi look while keeping your pretty good OEM suspension.
Love my fortune auto 500 series coilovers!!!❤❤
Jasper was great, you’re breaking my heart😂
My GTI has DCC shocks. Lowering springs are on my to do list.
Depends on the lowering springs if it is a good match on your car. Swift sports is a perfect match on my Evo X.
You still have them?
@@TRExOfficiaI Yes!
Unless you're hitting the track on a regular basis, how often do you change dampening rate and height? I went with Bilstein B8 shocks and Eibach springs for my Fiesta ST, bang for the buck for daily use and some spirited driving on backroads, easier to pass vehicle inspection here in Europe as well. I mean if you can afford something like Bilstein B14 or KW V3 great but I'd rather buy other parts for the build.
It's crazy how even getting coilovers you'll still need other suspension parts (ex front camber a-arm, rear camber kit, rear toe arm) these can definitely get costly... but that's just for my 06 acura TL... huge shout out to fitment industries for helping me get awesome rims and a decent priced coilovers. Just wish they would have mentioned all the camber parts I needed (another $500) purchase I didn't account for but my ride feels tight and looks amazing.
If your lowering using your OE shocks and struts (non magnetic) you may not be happy with the ride control . I've had many experiences with this problem. You may find that the increased spring rate makes for a bouncy and annoying harsh ride , you may also find that your suspension travel is much reduced either hammering the bump stops (or riding on them ...even if you trim them) At a minimum you should consider SHORTER shock body aftermarket shocks and struts , with increased rebound valving for the increase in spring rate. Bilstein B8's or Koni Yellows are very good IMO , I would avoid Koni Streets as the shock body is in my experience , the same length as the OE's with only only slightly "stiffer" rebound control.... basically a OE spring , upgrade shock.. IMO
I have a 2006 BMW 325xi and was hoping if you guide me which one I should go for, either coilover or lowering springs. Coilover set is Bilstein B14 performance coilover kit for $814 vs H&R lowering sport springs with B8 shocks for $985. I want to lower my car but don't want to lose the comfort since it's my daily.

I have a 2018 Q60 that comes with "adaptive suspension" should I be thinking about lowering springs to preserve/work with the suspension technology vs. coil overs? This is my daily and while I don't go to the track I do a few canyon runs here and there.
Hey Alex, I have a 2020 Accord Touring. My car has an adaptive dampening system. I was considering getting BC racing BR series coilovers and D2 racing ADS bypass modules to disable the light on the dash, but after watching this video, I'm not so sure anymore. I'm not trying to race my car. I just want about an 1.5" drop. Which would you choose in my situation? Coils or springs?
With spring you get new struts and shocks all around for the low look with stick ride quality . When you install springs with worn out struts or shocks ride quality will be bouncy and you will wear out the Dampers more so they will bottom out. If dampeners are worn wen going over speed bumps and you lowered car it will tend to bottom out due to age and it’s a lot less stiff
I remember people used to cut or melt the stock springs for a nice clean drop. That was ruuuufff!!
