In this DIY project video we are going to convert our bicycle into an electric one. We are going to use a car alternator that we have converted to a permanent magnet brushless motor that we have converted in previous project video.
Have a look at this project video as we are going to have lots of fun building this bicycle.

  • Never give up your creative fire but absolutely do not be afraid to learn proper technique from the Old pros... Seek out all the retired old men in your community who once did machining an electrical work their knowledge base is priceless, and many have libraries of reference material books that they used for their careers. Those libraries now sit gathering dust, and many of these Old pros will want to bestow those gems upon you.... They are especially priceless, because they now represent lost knowledge and they are usually out of print for several decades...

    • Correct on the battery placement. That's why when I bought my conversion kit for my bike with the hub motor, I bought a battery that I could mount in the middle of the bike to offset the 25lbs of the motor in the rear. Putting the heavy battery in the back would stress the frame to much when making sharper turns. When I make turns now it feels normal other than the extra weight on the bike but it's balanced well. I read that others noticed problems with to much weight in the rear.

  • I bet the looped small wire you used to connect the cells in the battery get pretty hot under 30+ amps of continuous load, unless you have multiple sets of cells in parallel. Nice build!

  • Thats a very cool bike. I like your inventiveness. The stability problem at speed is due to most of the mass being located in the wrong places. Also, increasing front wheel trail (castor) will help increase stability at speed. Projects like this are journeys in learning. Good job.

  • Great job guys you guys are very talented I am an electrician and also an inventor and engineer I love your concept and what you have done I believe you have a very marketable item and I believe you should apply for a patent to what you have done to protect your work if you have not already done so!

    • Can they do a patent application with car parts and parts from other brands? Not sure about patent laws, I thought you can build stuff similar but it has to be different from original product but use your own custom parts? But I'm not sure

  • I think if you could get the weight of the battery in the frame area, you will get more weight on the front and stop the wobble. NICE DEATH MACHINE! Super Cool!

  • Well done for your brilliant effort. May I suggest a couple of things. I would look at mounting the alternator by the pedal area and using a belt drive or similar to the rear wheel therefore giving you a more centralised mass. Following on from that, the battery pack would be much better slung under the main frame spar and would help with stability for your bike and reduce the speed wobbles experienced. Your efforts are nothing short of inspiring and you guys should be very proud of yourselves, just centralize and lower your overall mass for a much better handling bike. Front forks would also be worth changing to damped forks instead of rigid. Subbed, and sending you best wishes.

  • Pure genius! You probably already have the wheel shimmy problem worked out, but I think it has to do with the amount of trail in the steering. You may need to add a small amount of wheel trail, in order to deal with the added speed involved. All the best!
