oh my goodness! I've only ever seen drawings of this animal before. I thought they were imaginary! wonderful to see and learn new things in my 70's. Shearing job well done 😲😲

They are quite rare, about 7000 in existence, the American Jacob is a lovely breed. Last year one of my Jacob ewes had a ram lamb who grew eight horns.

@@vnokesCO I have a video of shearing day on my micro-farm, and there were some comical moments where the shearer was accidentally immobilized by the horns of the animals. This breed also has horns on th ewes. My herd has 13 animals, and between them, they have a total of 42 horns. The 8-horns is not common, and in this particular animals case he just didn't have a big enough head to accomodate all that horn space, so he passed away. I did not repeat that matchup between animals again.

What a beautiful animal, with such an impressive set of horns. I haven't seen any horned livestock look quite like that, thought that so small animals didn't have such an imposing headgear. Looks like old world depictions of the horned one, it's so eerily similar! I hadn't thought that the illustrations had living examples, I'm astonished that there's something living that is that close to the examples. Amazing animal and marvelous work!

Gorgeous Jacob’s Ram with symmetrical horns! You handled him like a boss, of course! I worked with Jacob’s Sheep at my city zoo as a volunteer docent for several years. Forgot to keep my eye on a big guy while I was working with his offspring and HE ended up being the boss of ME for a couple of minutes. Got a hard whack driving my forearm into a fence! That was the 1st and ONLY time he got to be the boss of me!

A lot of people confuse hair sheep breeds with goats because they do look a lot more similar than wool sheep do to goats. Main way to tell the difference is the tail, if it is really long and dangly or docked than it is a sheep, if it is short and upright it is a goat.
