  • That was a historic run Tito was on. I loved every second of it

    @jaysharp789@jaysharp7893 жыл бұрын
    • Definitely an historic run. He was one of my favorite fighters ever. He went from Vargas, straight to Joppy, right to Hopkins. Like no chill with some lesser fighter in between. That will never be done by the fighters of today.

  • Tito was a beast, he was lanky and had power but boxed well too, one of the all time greats for sure. I was fortunate enough to watch all of his fights growing up. My first boxing match my pops took me to was the Tito v Mamadou fight, I was around 9-10 yrs old, it was me, my dad, and my great grandfather. It felt like we were back in PR, it was like the island came out to see Tito fight, I’ve never felt/seen support like that in any other sport that I’ve been too. Tito went out and dominated Mamadou that night, KO’d him in the third, just walked through him, an elite fighter in his prime on full display. I’ll never forget that night, the atmosphere, the crowd, the fight it is something cemented into my mind forever. That ended up being the year before my great grandfather passed and looking back I’m greatf my dad took both of us to go see that fight and share that experience together, it’s something that I’ll never forget

    • yeah, he's deceptively fast and doesn't constantly do the same movements making it a nightmare for his opponents. Tito will will stand there half a second to a second then bob left then right... side step... then step into his opponent the whole time feinting jabs measuring distance and his opponent's reaction. On top of that he slips most of the punches and gets a few counter shots every round, turning defense into offense. And then he peppers those body shots as well... all of these factors in a smart fighter makes a perfect fighter.

  • William Joppy fought like a novice that night. What was he thinking? He was fighting one of the biggest punchers of that decade and his defence was terrible. In the first round, his hands were very low leaving his head exposed. Reckless tactics. The first knock down was a gift. Joppy was a talented fighter, but he did some strange things in the ring that cost him fights.

    @Aerojet01@Aerojet015 жыл бұрын

    • I agree. Tito was an unbelievable fighter with power in both hands. A legend. Joppy had a great career, but he could have achieved a lot more in boxing. I remember, he did silly things in the first fight against Green.

      @Aerojet01@Aerojet015 жыл бұрын
    • Good observation, he had the heart to be great, but had poor defense and tactics. How about Body shots and hold like Hopkins lol , move use your jab when far away, how about more weapons like jab to the body and upper cuts down the Middle.

      @HugoFlores-tx5bc@HugoFlores-tx5bc5 жыл бұрын
    • joppy underestimated Tito. He had been a 3x champ at middle weight. Danny Jacobs is the modern day William joppy.. Secondly he said no way Tito was going to beat him coming from welterweight. So that's what happens.

      @brianticas7671@brianticas76714 жыл бұрын
    • He probably thought that Tito wouldn't be able to take his power up with him to Middleweight. I think the problem for Joppy though wasn't Tito's power as such - it was his precision. Fighters can prevail against monster punchers if they don't get hit cleanly or if the puncher doesn't have a high workrate. Unfortunately Tito had accuracy, power and a high workrate.

    @yuljohnson847@yuljohnson8475 жыл бұрын
    • Love Tito, love him... but he would have virtually no chance vs. Hagler IMO. Hagler would have him out inside 5-6 rounds pretty easy I believe. Tito was best at 147, and his strongest at 154, when he skipped past 154 and went up to 160 he was not nearly as dominant, far from it actually, this was his one big victory at middleweight against a really good fighter in William Joppy respectively. Hagler was just too big and also on a whole other level from Tito. That said I loved Felix and he was great in his own right, one if the very best welterweights in an era full of unbelievable talent. I have nothing but respect for Tito. Hagler vs a few of the guys that beat Tito up would have been good matches I think. Hagler vs. Hopkins and especially Hagler vs. Jones Jr. would have been great to watch, I also think Hagler vs Winky would have been interesting to watch if not entertaining. James Toney and Hagler would have been a great fight also I think, but not Tito and Hagler. Just one guys opinion though, nothing more.
