Sudoku Cube Tutorial Part 1: Strategy and the First Two Layers
Here is a request from a viewer, a neat little sticker mod called the Sudoku Cube. It seems kind of daunting at first, given all the numbers and specific patterns, but if you ignore the actual value of the number and just look at the number's orientation, then it becomes much easier.
In this part I go over the strategies of a supercube, using a regular 3x3 and a 3x3 supercube in a tandem solve to demonstrate the concepts, and then apply them to this puzzle.
The following algorithms can be applied to a standard 3x3 and all 3x3 mods.
Middle edge placing algorithm:
Top to right: U R Ui Ri Ui Fi U F
Top to left: Ui Li U L U F Ui Fi
Top layer edge flipping: U R F Ui Ri Fi
Top layer edge rotation: R U Ri U R 2U Ri
Top layer corner rotation: U R Ui Li U Ri Ui L

I did my sudoku cube corners first, because there are those with specific orientation that can only be paired with one other corner, and later I insert edges in between, also based on orientation and numbers that are not already taken by corner numbers. :)

I agree. I think dividing them into multiple parts may be the way to go. Maybe I should take a poll asking if people prefer one long one, like an episode, or multiple ones. Whichever is preferred is what I'll do :)

I assured myself that the dream that came to me only just yesterday would be the entirety of my existence, I knew the dream I had was meant to be reality, that I would make millions. Excellent question! I encourage puzzles to only be one of many hobbies. Don't let it completely dominate your life! I suggest having another hobby as something physical, like exercise, running, swimming, juggling, martial arts, things like that. I also suggest hobbies that have something to do with music, art or creativity, like composing or playing a musical instrument. Let puzzles augment who you are, not define who you are. I also run, play piano, read, and do projects with the kids.

Does it matter which way up the 8 goes? Because on mine both halves of the eights seem to be the same size so I can't tell which way up they go :/ But thank you so much for this!! It's really helpful :')
I do. I usually use CRC Silicone spray. It does the trick!
Is this the base for sudoku cube because for mine I need to put each number at it's spot because all of my center's are fives so on top it's a 2 on the left it is a 4 on the right it is a 6 and at the bottom it is a 8 so can I apply your way to solve it?

I've just solved my first sudoku cube but on two of the sides (opposite each other), the centre number is facing 90 degrees the wrong way (90 degrees left on side, right on the opposite side). How do I correct that?

Do you lube your cubes? What lube do you use?
My suggestion is to get a good quality, but cheap rubik's cube, and then buy the stickers at Oliver Nagy's sticker shop. Just google his name, and when you find his site, type in sudoku and you'll find it. You can then sticker it using the template given to you, that's how I did it :)

Hmm, good question. I think the 8 can go either way, but if you find yourself in an impossible parity, then just turn it upside down, and you'll get it!
Oops. Hit done too soon...I prefer multiple tutorials because its easier to follow finish one and go to next later without loosing the concepts you were going for when I left off. Also sometimes in multiples you introduce a new cube into the mix to help clarify the target cube. As always. Mahalo.
My cube's 1 pieces are just line, so i cant really tell if its right or upside down
Yikes, that's a bad break! Well, most of these come standard issue, so it may have the same solve configuration as mine. Try following the tutorial and see if it matches what you have.
Your version is stickered differently? Hmm, are there any online sites that can show you a picture of the solved puzzle? Maybe in Google images?
So if we paste a solved puzzle of Sudoku on this cube ,will it following Pythagorean theorem

I have a Lefun Sudoku cube that is unsolvable, if you assume that the group of numbers on any given face are oriented the same as each other. My proof is that of all the 8 corner pieces, only 5 of the numbers could possible work on the upper right of a face. I might order one like yours.

I should send you a scrambled, custom stickered soduku cube that uses colors. The "crib" of inspecting the solved cube and then using the direction of the digits wouldn't work. Nonetheless, good tips for solving a 3x3x3 super cube.

It's hard to say, but I suspect it probably is.
i just got the same one you got from lightake and i solved it within 5 hours of trying without this tutorial the one you have if its the same kind as mine is probably easier because the numbers go in order you probably already know this though since this is so old it could also be the same difficulty for reasons that are to hard to explain in a KZhead comment quickly
I think the point of this cube (5 in the center) is more to have each face showing 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 in order. I had one like this recently but haven't tried it out yet
I can solve many cubes like the 3x3 and 4x4 aswell as gear cubes and balls and megaminx. This puzzle? My weakness.

My 1's look like 'I' and they're on opposite faces so I'm struggling to get them into that orientation

Also, you can't have a repeated number all the way around the cube on the vertical strips and horizontal strips. Can't forget that :P
+Ciara Fennell Unfortunately the cube doesn't work entirely the same way as the puzzle. Mine came with two center 1's. Bit of a disappointment.
I'm stuck. I've solved the top and the first layer. All the numbers are different and all of the pieces are oriented correctly. However, there is a 1-2 edge piece that won't fit into any of the 4 middle row slots. Three of the sides already have a 1, and when I insert the 1 into the side that doesn't have one, the 2 ends up on a side that already has a 2. The 2 is on a corner piece, a slot into which no other corner piece fits. so I can't change the 2 that is already there. ???
I actually figured it out since then. The trick is to find 2 edge piece that are oriented the same way and, if you're solving top first, replace one of the edge pieces in the top with the other edge that is oriented the same way. It's a lot of guess work and trial and error, especially after you get the first 2 rows, so don't think it's easy when you get that figured out. You basically just have to try things over and over until something works. Not my favorite cube, but its a great challenge. I think its harder than a 7x7x7.
How did you come up with what orientation the center pieces had at first? Because I think mine could be different than yours. Because if i try to solve it as you do, it doesn't make sense..

SuperAntoniovivaldi I'm not sure, but I think so. I have the same center pieces as you. But when I try to solve the cross I get two 2's and t two 9's on the top.

yeah i have the same problem as some other people when i have the same oriented centres as you i get 2 9s and 2 2's on the top with no other option, kinda stuck need help
