I won a bet at school because I predicted Byleth. All my friends thought it was gonna be Dante. I was the only one who predicted Byleth. I won $40!
I did the same with Hero (i didn't really know about the Alt, i just said the "New dude from next Dragon Quest" lol)

Sakauri is such a great guy. He puts so much effort into his fighters, even if the character is one that will disappoint many, he still works his hardest to make the character the best it can be. Truly one of the best game developers and also just great person in existence.
He honestly could have done so much more with the character tbh. The moveset feels slapped together and doesn't realize the potential for carrying multiple weapons. Maybe it's just my high standards for character concepts and movesets, but Byleth is disappointing in that regard.

@ChompyDj Absolutely agree, I just wish that people would stop taking his and his team's painstaking work in making these characters and this game for granted and just appreciate that they gave us this in the first place. They could have easily just said no but they went out of their way to create this for us. And it's so sad to see the community treat them like crap for it.

Seriously, I was disappointed back in January, but I got Fire Emblem Three Houses during summer, and as of December 2020 I have 100% completed the game. It's seriously good.
Good to see someone who was at first disappointed with the inclusion of Byleth, but actually gave the game a try, and ended up being happy they were in. Literally 95% of the smash scene complain about a character coming into a game they haven’t played before. For example; *Geno haters*

In Sakurai’s words from before… And now with the addition of Sora, Fighters Pass Vol. 2 is finally complete. The lineup was Min Min, Steve & Alex, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, Kazuya Mishima and Sora.
Wow, they did not include more FE chars? I honestly expected them to. Back then, because of this release, I did not buy the 2nd pack on release to first see what chars were included. Now I lost interest in smash so Byleth pretty much caused them to lose out on my money xD

@@fallenafterling4128 They actually never stated that. This misconception stems from a misquote of Reggie during the 2018 Game Awards. What he actually stated (Going to paraphrase here) was that all the characters would be new to the Smash Brothers franchise. Basically Reggie was stating the obvious and I guess people tried to fined a deeper meaning that didn't exist thus leading to this misconception. If you don't believe me go back and rewatch the 2018 Game Awards and listen closely to what Reggie says.
This man is just a legend. He can count on binary, he can name all of FE games, he can play two characters at the same time, he has fun with his own game and he has a charisma that some youtubers would kill to have. Just a legend. Ignore all those haters that can’t enjoy smash because their favourite character isn’t in the game, we all love and respect you. Take a rest.

Some people take the meme seriously for some reason. Lol. Honestly it's inevitable. Swordsmen are in a LOT of games. Of course we're going to be getting more swordsmen in the future as well. I mean everybody wanted Dante and he uses a sword too. Sora weilds a giant key and swings it around like a sword yet he's highly requested. They're just using "too many sword fighters" as a convenient excuse to complain that their requested character didn't get in yet.

Coming back on this makes me feel better. I was unfortunately one of those people that bitched about Byleth, and I cringe at those old memories. I actually took the time to play Byleth, and now she is my best character and #1 main, plus I have 200+ Hourse on Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I still feel bad for those who are still stuck in the past. May the goddess Sothis help them.

It was more funny and shocking that it was another Fire Emblem character, especially since it was DLC. But Byleth is one of the DLC characters I love playin, not as a main but as just, a fun fighter.
Im Happy some people liked her but i do not have to act like i enjoyed her beign added to the game

I have gone and finally played fire emblem 3 houses. I understand everything he was saying now, and byleth now has my attention. Not to those still salty, try it out.

I like when Sakurai is putting up the Byleth poster, drops it a little, and the people behind the camera laugh. I think it shows that Sakurai is a normal person that makes small slip ups like the rest of us.

This reveal truly captures the theme of Smash Bros and Three Houses, friends turing into enemies... A battle of survival with only one victor, choosing a side, and sticking with it... BEST REVEAL EVER! The self awareness of it all will never be match.

I'd say so! It's DLC for a video game, let there be promotion. For the time, people were hyped for the last character in Fighters Pass 1 and they wanted to be satisfied with their purchase. In hindsight, Byleth deserved it, since Three Houses is a popular Nintendo game and Byleth is now a popular Nintendo character. People who are still furious are obviously d*ckless Western Nintendo fans who don't play a lot of video games who jumped on the Smash Bros. train because they wanted someone from their youth like Crash Bandicoot or an irrelevant side-character like Geno or Waluigi. They don't have an appreciation for games outside their realm of understanding what a game is, so obviously they'd be upset, but some take it too far

Cheappin was already obnoxious in general. I'll say what I want about Bayonetta and her Smash 4 shenanigans, but at least even in Smash 4 she involved clear counter play regardless of it being buried by the Side B flowchart and the ceiling kill stupidity that makes me wonder why there weren't other legal stages in Smash 4 with ceiling blast zones as high as that of Wuhu Island Omega. Cheappin was able to spam a given aerial to ridiculous effect. And then we get Byleth coming with an absolutely toxic preview trailer. It did not help that Mangs used a certain meme involved with Hero to incite people into it. Yes. Mangs. That scumbag who YOU have denounced for sound reason. And here you are anger-shaming, which shows that you and the Fire Emblem community have learned NOTHING. Oh, but he's no longer "(your) problem." Yeah, uh, thanks for allowing Mangs to monopolize Advance Wars content.
It’s odd to come back to this video. Byleth is currently my main, and one of the reasons that I finally choose to get into smash again. In fact, it is due to the hating of the character that I choose them as a main. Fun to come back and read the comments.
Corrin was your previous main? I personally have 3 mains (K rool, Lucina and Meta Knight) but I go often random, so I'm happy when there's a new caracter. I'm wating for the 7th caracter before buying the second pack. I'm also a new FE fan. (Sorry for my english I'm french) (Yes you can ignore 90% of this comment)

Honestly this character was my favorite of the first pass. I’m a fire emblem fanatic, and watching this trailer on the bus ride home made me smile.
Glad someone did. I'm sick of the anime swordsmen. 3 out of 5 of the first pass had some kind of manga sword theme. (Granted I love joker ) but still the game needs more color like banjo and terry. It just feels too dark and edgy

With the news the wave 2 fighters were decided at this point and what Sakurai implied during the final presentation, it makes more sense in hindsight why the 11th Pack is revealed semi-dramatically after packs 6-10- probably a personal reminder for the team that they successfully got Sora from Disney. I also bet had they not succeeded, it would have been just the 5 extra fighters with Sephiroth ending it.
Well have a look at that in sakurai's famitsu collum it is confirmed that sora was added as a bonus to Fighters pass 2

well no.zss up smash,dedede f smash and the down air animation for dedede and byleth is THE EXACT SAME There IS NO DIFFERENCE IN THEIR HAND POSITIONING AND HOW THEY SWING THE WEAPON.
@@rayman9118 I must point out that a lot of other sword fighters share the exact same down smash, where they swing to their front, then their back. The only exceptions are Cloud and Ganondorf, who both use their sword hilt to push opponents onto the blade, and of course Byleth, who instead has a low-to-the-ground axe spin.
