Ninjaguy5700 There used to be fighting games with A LOT of characters and not one DLC. At the end, with more and more DLCs, you'll be basically paying for the game twice. I don't really care about Smash, but I found all this a scam.

I wish he was still around to help sakuri make what is probably his biggest project. (Super smash bros ultimate.).
Ryu was an insane reveal back then! It kind of stunk that there were references to him and Roy in an uodate's code prior to the reveal. It ruined the surprise, but if the devs weren't releasing patch notes, how else were people supposed to learn about changes? I remember people going nuts over all the different moves Ryu had, and worrying about having to memorize command inputs. 6+ years later, and Kazuya is making Ryu look like a starter fighter! I will say that I regret the stage choice for the Street Fighter series. Big pits and a walkoff? Who likes to play on this stage? The other "fighting game" fighters (Terry Bogard and Kazuya Mishima) got WAY more interesting and fun stages, both of which are more similar to their source games. (Honestly, new stages in Smash Bros Ultimate are way better than they were in past games, with no stinkers I can think of.)

To be fair, that was before they saw how positive the response was to the DLC. We've gone through quite a few years of DLC having a bad rap outside of Nintendo, they probably wanted to stay out of that mess. But these guys have done it right and with respect to the original content, so it's worked out great so far. And yes, dat money too. :)

The fact that Ryu was added is really underrated. Street Fighter 2 is one of more iconic fighting games of all time and one of the first fighting games. Literally Ryu was added.

All respect to your opinion, but I disagree. We already knew Ryu and Roy were coming from data mines, and the Splatoon costumes were already revealed before as a pre order bonus. Everything else was either uninteresting, somewhat cool, or cringe-worthy (the Isabelle costume). The fact that the DLC was all released that day was cool, but the servers couldn't handle it all XD. This is all my opinion, but you're free to tell me why you thin, this presentation was the best.

Fernando Banda Yoshi, Wario, and the Kongs are all of their own franchises. But they did spawn from Mario.
Pollock_6 The Kongs technically didn't. Donkey and Mario were featured in Donkey Kong before there was a Mario franchise (although I wouldn't call it part of the modern Donkey Kong franchise either). But Diddy has nothing to do with Mario other than crossovers in Mario Kart and the like.

SlyBiffrons That may be true (I don't know a lot about Simon Belmont), but third-party characters have a pretty high bar for Sakurai. Notice how all four of them are recognized by just about any gamer ever.
Fernando Banda I'd say Castlevania is a pretty recognized franchise. Belmont was part of the iconic NES lineup alongside Mario and Zelda. Sure, Castlevania is dwarfed by Street Fighter in popularity but still, something to be considered. Not to mention that Shulk is a character and his game is still pretty niche.
Castlevania may have been popular, but I don't think AS popular as Sakurai wants third-parties to be. But this argument is just for third-party characters, though. I'm sure more than half the Nintendo cast isn't as recognizable as Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic or Ryu, but it's their characters, so they don't mind.
Now you just need Sub-zero and Scorpion.

Meta Knight while these stages are great, i was hoping for an HD remake of these instead of a port. though it's great to see these stages back nonetheless!
Crispy they aren't a port they are a remake the original files are too old to be transferred so they had to recreate all the 64 stages from scratch meaning they put the effort in to make it look exactly like the original so you and others would think they just ported it over

I feel so bad for Ryu being robbed of such a thunderous reveal. Announced and released on the exact same day, but spoilers and leaks taking away any of the hype that would have been associated with that. That lost of hype I feel contributes to his smaller player base to this day.
