Gail Davis details the FA Cup's plans to scrap replays from the first round proper, with fixtures now set to be played exclusively on weekends.
The FA and the Premier League revealed they have reached a new agreement starting from next season for a minimum of six years to "strengthen" the competition with "new and exclusive calendar windows".

The Premier League are trying to say that they are overworked? EFL teams in League One and Two have to play in the EFL Trophy, FA Cup and League cup as well as 46 games in the league per season. All this deal does is make sure the money distributed in the pyramid stays towards the top. If this is more about the workload than money, maybe the Premier League teams will have no problem donating all TV and prize money to EFL and non-league teams, especially since they are dragging their feet over the new EFL deal.
I hope they do
Well said as a Plymouth argyle fan I find this very sad. Gate receipts from fa cup replays help us. 46 games in a league and the efl cup too players are much more tired than the majority of prem teams
Likewise clubs in the non-league pyramid - some divisions play a 46 game season, and then there's the FA Cup (where WE still have to play replays on the road to qualifying for the competition proper!), FA Trophy, FA Vase, county cups - and all this while the majority of teams are part time and squad sizes are tiny. Players who do a full time job and then come to the ground and lace up their boots. But sure, the elite athletes who do this for a living can't cope, so let's screw over the rest of football just to keep them happy. An absolute joke of a decision which is being rightly derided by most within football today.
We are all angry about this decision - like we are angry about VAR being absolutely useless but - at the end of the day - all we're going to do is moan and complain on social media - ( I'm as guilty as anyone in this ) the people with the power are going to keep on making changes and bringing in new rules and "improvements" and WE are going to let them - we will send some very strongly worded emails to the F.A. but that's about it , maybe Lineker or Wright or Shearer will have a rant on twitter but it will all come to nothing - they're going to destroy our game and we're going to sit back and watch it happen - when the Premier League clubs decided to give F all to lower league sides - that was a pretty big nail in the coffin , maybe we deserve what's coming - It's Our game , we're in charge , we could make a stand and save this beautiful game but we won't , football used to be fun - now there's too much at stake -
Anyone in favour of this isn't a football fan.
So, to save you watching the video, those 2024/25 FA Cup changes in brief: 1. No replays. 2. The competition will start with the quarter finals, with just the top 8 clubs at the end of this seasons' Premier League. So, no need for rounds 1 to 5 and all those fixture- clogging one sided matches. This will save a lot of travelling for fans of clubs who have no chance of winning the FA Cup and it saves the players from the top 8 teams having to play too many matches. 3. The 8 clubs involved will all use their reserve teams. (No real change there then). 4. Proposal for the 2025/26 competition is scrap all the early rounds and just have the final, contested between the two clubs with the biggest bank balance (which is what usually happens anyway). Alternatively, don't even bother with the final. Just award the trophy to the richest club at the start of the 2025/26 season. Hope that is clear enough.
sounds about right
😂😂😂😂😂
Great Idea also have a parade before the season somewhere in ohhh Manchester 🤣
Erm, all of your points from are clearly FALSE and sarcasm doesn't get you anywhere. It reeks of jealousy of bigger teams. Get over it. It's a knockout competition. We don't want draws in knockout competition (well I don't anyway).
@@philiphaseldine1135 No sarcasm, I can assure you. This is what they are planning. I got it straight from the horses' mouth; Mark Bullingham, the Chief Executive of the FA. He lives in the same street as myself. He did say to me that number 4 is "still only at the proposal stage and has yet to be ratified".
who else agrees that this is just making a bigger gap between lower clubs and European powerhouses? next seasons gonna have so much ucl uel and uecl matches nobody gonna care about fa cup and efl cup anymore :(

Scrap the Premier League more like. The League Cup is actually better than the FA Cup. I enjoy both. Why fans bother with the Premier League I don't know. Purely money, fools gold.

Diminishing the best Domestic Cup Competition in the World for the sake of the PL, so Clubs can stand a better chance to get into the Champions League and a Competition that is full of anything but Champions. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Awful decision
If 'fourth, fifth and quarter final weekends will not clash with Premier League games' surely this means they're making more space in the calendar for the FA cup, yet there's no time to have replays? If clubs in European competition can't find time in their schedules to keep having replays that's their problem, but it's the EFL clubs who will suffer instead!
No because where the premier league was supposed to play on the FA Cup weekends would now have to take place in midweeks. That means there's even less place to put the FA Cup replays
@@siyuanhuo7301 the EFL teams play more games than Premier League teams, yet they don't moan there are too many games

@@Wickerrman cheers for that mate.
Why have round 1 and round 2 replays been scrapped, richer clubs get richer poorer clubs gets poorer, the FA and Ptemier League were so gutless not to let the Football League have a say
If it's not broken why fix it
Because they want to break it so they can have a case to scrap all together & the same is true about The League Cup. The ultimate goal buy the look of the way the game is heading is to have a Premier League with zero promotion & relegations much like happens in North American Sports It how it looks to me. They wish to cut E.F.L & Non- League clubs adrift step buy step. They are going about it step by step this is just part of it.
In memory of John motson RIP
With no more replays you have to say some of the magic of the cup dies. How many smaller clubs will miss out on trips to big grounds and the revenue that brings them, and how many fans will miss out on potential games?
Football's dead & gone. Has no redeeming features now. The Cup has been dead for years since Ferguson's Man U played it's reserves in FAC matches.

Not me, means we get park the bus football like with madrid to play for penalties. That should have been an amazing match.
How is the other headline not putting the final before the last week of the prem, it’s the end of the season not the penultimate
£2,000,000,000 spent, 115 charges of breaching FFP and 1 UCL. That's absolutely criminal, in more ways than one.
I see what you did there 😂
Money has ruined the game, governments bank rolling teams even the Spanish government is at with Real and Barca…..
I have heard that the PL and the FA have decided to just award them all of the domestic trophies for the 2024/25 season, to save the hassle of playing all those one sided league and cup matches and to spare the fans of the other clubs from building up all that false hope that their club might be able to compete with Manchester City. Saves their star players risking injury too, so they can just concentrate on those all important European matches, so it makes a lot of sense.
OK well I'm resigned to the fact that I'm the only person in the universe who was never a fan of replays and I'm glad they've been ditched. It's a knockout competition. The result should be decided on the day. If you want another game in it, try to WIN the game instead of holding on for a draw. Just because something has always been done one way doesn't mean that continues forever. Remember when the final had replays? Want to go back to that? I don't.

Such a shame to see replays go. Was nice to see close ties get to played again and small clubs drawing at home to bigger clubs and getting and away fixture.
Now a day's The D.F.B Pokal Is much better to whach The D.F.B. has gotten right what The F.A. can't. Lowe league club always gets a home, draw the extra time & pens on the night if need no need for any replays & it still has its magic.
German clubs and the DFB seem to actually care about fans (aside from letting scum Leipzig exist) unlike the FA, no oil state clubs either. Should be the model we follow but it’d lose the FA and big clubs money
Disgraceful there better be more games on tv for smaller clubs need to make up that money somehow
Well what we do know Is the E.F.L clubs will have loads more games on Sky Sports from next season via the red button & on Sky Sports Football. I dont know if National League T.V will start to show more games domestically this is unclear at this time.
Wow the magic of the FA Cup is coming to the end next season. I love seeing lower clubs winning match's guess that not happening anymore
Thank the heavens
Disgrace
It’s clear to see that the premier league has placed pressure on the FA, as they believe match replays could affect the quality of their product (The Premier League), which means potentially less revenue in the long term. They’ve also promised £33M to trickle down to Grassroots Football; There are 18,000 grassroots teams in England, meaning that each team (Hypothetically) gets a cut of £1,833 over a period of time… This is nothing in the grand scheme of things!! This is just another reason why I’m boycotting watching the Premier League; And we need to start calling it what it is… The English Super League!!
This is the right decision, to give more fighting chance to small clubs, there should be just 1 leg until last and last 4 and that should be played at small club's stadiums . The Spanish La Liga does that.
La Liga, who gives all the vast majority of its tv money to 2 clubs, is not at all a good model for supporting smaller clubs.
The response to this by clubs and fans is hot air. Non EPL clubs should refuse to participate, but they won’t. Fans of non EPL clubs should stop subsidising the EPL and cancel their Sky and BT subscriptions, but they won’t. So cowardly clubs and spineless fans should stop bleating, and start to use the power they have.
Okay but when will Man City be punished for their 115 breaches of FFP?
when the corruption ends...
@@shanexd6340 so never?

Look at Chris Wilders’s comments about fa’s decision making to.He’s right about the big boys exc.Look, I understand, it’s business,it’s money talks, revenue. But all the teams in the first round qualifier and not get a reply, which I think it’s a shame, ridiculous to make a decision like this , in the past we have this debate and discussed about the players welfare, the schedule is getting relentless in the amount of games we are playing on Saturday and then Tuesday. We have spoken a lot,we have said to FIFA and UEFA to change, they have of course denied and not listened to,they just keep their money into their pockets.I love football, I love watching English matches on the tele and of course going to a stadium because of the tradition and history, back in the 50,60,70,80,90s was for me a tradition,fa cup matches were really special.if you look at the old Wembley, it’s a special day on the fa cup final and now semi-finals in Wembley, which shouldn’t be in this way,it should be in the current stadium. The old days and tradition of the fa cup is gone, so I don’t think it’s going to be back where it was.Shame on Fa and FIFA and UEFA.
This is just to help the big clubs
Agreed Millwall fan here and this is disgusting decision 😑 All about looking after the so called big clubs
@@robertnorth2111 I'm a Chelsea fan, but one who sees common sense as it is. This decision is an insult to all the EFL clubs and National League clubs. This is wrong and goes to further show that the powers that be, the FA and the Premier League prefer to keep lining their own pockets and they dont give a damn about the smaller less elite clubs and their fanbases. National League teams especially like Maidstone United who shocked Ipswich back on January 27 and many more will be affected.
This is not a good change at all, what about if a small pub side holds a big club to a draw at home, then they get to replay them at their big stadium and gain thousands of pounds in TV revenue
For example: if the big club of Leicester got held to a draw by the pub side of Liverpool at the Library of Anfield then they'd get a replay at the great big King Power Stadium which would make thousands of pounds for Liverpool's pub team, and boy do they need it to pay the referees and VAR back for all those decisions they've been given throughout the years.

And just like that, The FA Cup is made worse. FA Cup replays can sustain a club for years. I have never been happy for Arsenal to concede a goal until Jonathan Tehoue scored for Leyton Orient to make it 1-1 in what I think was the 5th round, maybe it was the 4th. Orient celebrated like it was the cup final itself. As my second team I was happy for them as it meant a trip to the Emirates. It was a huge pay day and earned them I think well over 500k and a trip to Vegas I believe courtesy of the owner Hearn. I like that all FA Cup games will be played at the weekend and Prem league matches should never happen on FA Cup Final weekend. That should be after the season finishes. The FA Cup is being made worse. Bring replays back, they can be midweek. Save the Replay.
Total scandal
The FA Cup, no more replays. The greedy Premier League. Let's just ban the Premier from entering it & the rest of us can enjoy the Cup with it's replays. That's the magic that a small club like Wimbledon & other non League clubs can draw at Old Trafford Anfield & take them back to their place. No wonder that more people don't watch today's football.
