Kaveh Solhekol explains semi-automated offside technology, after Premier League clubs unanimously agreed to its use next season - the system is already used in the Champions League and Serie A and was also in place at the most recent men's and women's World Cups.

They’re messing up again by not choosing the company that has the chip in the ball. Always half arsing it.
100%
It makes no sense mate. Typical prem with their bs 🤦
Always going to be money and politics that determine these decisions, never what's best for the league, players, viewers etc.
The prem probably make too much money from Nike to change the ball. Can’t see the prem putting its integrity before its pockets.
Yup another jobs for the boys deal I'm sure that seems power for the course for these lot .
Her: Tell us about the meeting! Him: So, I bought a cup of coffee…
It was 8 quid though.
To be fair 8 pounds for coffee is news😢
Not having a chip in the ball makes this absolutely pointless….
There’s no reason why you wouldn’t want to know the exact moment the ball is kicked unless you plan to do something dodgy.
They've been using chips in balls for a very long-term.itd all about the money they don't care about the sport
will still manage to mess this up probably
After seeing many stellar performances from the same premier league referees in Europe I am convinced at home they have some bias or grudges… 😅
Yep, messed up by buying the fake version of the technology
They already messed up, they went with the company that does not put a chip in the ball, so if it's too crowded the system might not work, and the backup is VAR which has the same limitation!
Bias for city to pay for the league every year
forget about the off side rule for a minute how on earth is this man affording a £8 coffee ☕️ 😮
He probably just put it on the expenses
He feeds your family man
@@benjaminjohn1928have some humor in ur life
Your extortionate monthly subscription to Sky pays for his £8 coffees.
@@SirHargreevescan’t believe people still pay for sky at this point, especially with these levels of inflation!
£8 coffee and a farmer in Kenya is earning £0.5 for a whole kg of coffee. Big companies are making a kill
No one's forcing anyone to pay £8 for a coffee and noone is forcing the farmer to sell for £0.5 for a kilo.

Semi automated offsides should represent progress. VAR as a technology works fine, the problem has always been the embarrassing standard of officials making the decisions, just as it was before VAR was even introduced. Automated offsides will take the human element out of it long term, which is a good thing - just as it was with goal line technology.
so this is the semi automated offside weapons system....shooting off .50 cal on offside players.....
@@johnpatricklim4509 your thinking of a semi automatic, not automated.
@@ashleygoggs5679 same difference....
@@johnpatricklim4509 yeh not really. Mechnically they are very different.
If VAR officials still cannot make definitive decisions, especially in regards to penalties and red card tackles, then I prefer to abandon it and go back to just accepting the ref's authority and verdict. Football has become a joke tbh.
One minute in and they're just talking about coffee
I get they have to spread out the time for live TV but not sure why they had t keep that bit in for the upload. lol
8 pound coffee has to be talked about 😅
Nothing to explain we’ve seen it in the champions league for a few season and in last year World Cup and it perfect . Only the English will make it seem like a big deal, when it’s not .
But it's different as if you watched the video, the one in the champions league uses the chip In the balls his one doesn't
Thing is there not using the chip in the ball
Exactly 💯
Serie A already used this technology right after Qatar WC.
@@paulstones1451even the champions league one doesn’t have the chip in it only the World Cup had it.
Semi automated? Oh these are the weapons
James May changing the clock in the Maserati
All this tech but you still can't see when the ball crosses the line for a corner or throw in
I hardly think your struggling to play £8 for coffee...
*You're struggling with your grammar...
He might not be struggling financially but I think most people would struggle with the idea of paying it. Ridiculous prices in London.
The side-eye from the presenter as well 😂No one is feeling sorry for him, we all know he's expensing it
Basic grammar rules ‘your’ and ‘you are’ 😔
@crustyflakes3861 well he paid so he did accept the price
I quite enjoyed the coffee story. Adds a touch of humanity to the report.
I'm a simple man. I see Karveigh and I stop the video instantly and read an article instead.
She had to ask him about three times to actually tell her something about the topic
Fa use chip in the ball
Happy about this. I've seen the system and it's so much clearer to see who's offside or isn't. Bye bye VAR! You won't be missed!
There will still be VAR, only the offside process is being adapted
@noahmanos1334 I'll take that. It's the VAR for offsides that is ruining the game 👍🏼
@@RossInTheWild yeah agreed
@@RossInTheWildSo you're saying all other aspects of VAR are fine?
@WebleyCrusher no I'm saying this particular aspect is the worst and we're going in the right direction to fix this
Shame they didn't have it in the Spurs v Liverpool game.
They scrambled after it only when Jurgen Klopp demanded a replay and it was revealed that the refs involved were doing a part time job in the UAE (which owns Man City) a few days before the game. Can't have their integrity questioned 😂
Wow, millionaires had meeting in 5 star hotel, ground breaking journalism.
He was being sarcastic.
£8 for a small coffee...that's profit with no sustainability right there! No wonder the game has gotten so expensive! 🤣
Now wait until the EPL make it compliacted the way they have complicated VAR
"it doesn't work in crowded penalty areas" that's literally when 90% of offside calls are made mate
117 that number talked about
Does this really need explaining? It worked perfectly at the World Cup…we’ve all seen it
that was with a chip in the ball, premier league wont have that
It's different did you even watch the clip 😆
The whole point of bringing this in is because the way we calculate offsides now is inconsistent and completely unreliable. Using it as a backup just completely defeats the purpose of SAOT 🤦♂️
It's key they show it in the stadiums. Current VAR decisions aren't shown on big screens, so It's confusing for spectators.
That's more on the clubs without screens tbh
Semi auto? These are the weapons they’re talking about I see
Bro, your videos are gold.
Thanks
bro. the cringiest word on the web.
£8 for a little cup 🍵 of coffee ☕ is expensive man.
Cost of living in London
Take a flask 😅
Coffee for £8 while Sky is charging £1,000/year.
Well he was working so I don't know why he was acting like he was paying for it, either it went on expenses or he paid using a company card.
Why r you talking about coffee
Does this mean that we will no longer have to watch linos belting 20 yards down the touchline only to then put the flag up for an offside which occurred 2 minutes earlier and 20 yards higher up the pitch. I am always on tenterhooks hoping that no players (of either team) will be injured as a direct consequence of challenging for a ball when the play is then subsequently deemed to be offside.
Him talking about his coffee is so Brent
£8 for a coffee? Pah!
Why not show the new system??
The way he talked about the coffee you'd think he meant 800
Why not have perecentage based off finishing psoition from the previous season with the 3 promoted sides haveing the most and the champions having the least? Like wind tunnel time in F1.
Why is my guy talking about how he bought a coffee😂
Gotta rig a few games at the beginning of the season before they implement it sounds like to me.
Just bring robot to ref coz that's where we're heading to
😂
"We understand, from our sky sources...reporting in England that indeed the... rumors...of a potential change in the way that...the premier League is going to...officiate the football...games...when it comes to the potential...possible and feasible way in which...games are played. Our sources have confirmed this new system comes with a release clause of €65 million Euros"
I was waiting for this video. KS breaking down the business of football 😂
So how will this offside thing work during play? Will the ref blow the whistle immediately once they get the notification? Or will they let the ball go out of play first?
Sky should have a simlation of SAOT to demo.. come on Sky this is a must
I mean, VAR works so well, so makes sense that they should involve even more technology. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The worrying point is the title "Semi-Automated". By definition "Semi-Manual". So again a matter of opinion if the technology can't work it out. Great!
4:19 is the point where we'll come back to after VAR overrules a clear onside goal next year
Hope this won't more chaos to what VAR is already offering us
How on earth is VAR going to see something that the SOAT cameras can't see because of player obstruction? We literally had this issue in the Arsenal vs Newcastle game and VAR could not determine where the ball was.
Chip in the ball obviously part of answer but more expensive?
I just wish we’d just get officials that could be even half adequate in the Championship, standard of officiating is deteriorating massively regardless of the amount of help that these people are given!! I thought the original idea of VAR & goal line technology was to help the officials get better? Yet here we are with inadequate officials throughout English football!
I bet kavah is a the comedian with his pals in the pub, that £8 coffee was thrilling
I can’t see the suggested financial system working at all, it might pull the EPL closer together in spend but then how do the top clubs compete against the likes of Madrid in the champions league.
forget the semi automated offside system the most shocking part of this is the £8 coffee 😮😮😮
In the BPL, it will not work effectively nor efficiently.
When it comes to how much a team can spend in the transfer window, why not tally up what everyone's turnover is, then calculate an average from that. That way everyone is able to spend the same, not being too little nor too much. 🤷🏻♂️ Genuine question
Would be surprised if it's as precise as just using cameras
Looks like the Premier League has chosen the half arsed option again. So we're not getting the proper system with the chip in the ball, like FIFA and UEFA use, were just getting cameras to work out where the ball is.
The £8 coffee is pain let him vent man lol
VAR and semi automated offsides basically go hand in hand. VAR was never going to work particularly well in terms of offsides when doing it manually, especially in terms of speed. I feel like VAR complaints will go significantly down once semi automated offsides are here, although there will always be a dodgy penalty call still in the mix for people to complain about (and that's not the technology's fault, that's the people using it). This technology can tell the exact position of the ball, so I hope it will also be used to determine, within the 4 key areas that VAR can intervene, whether the ball has left play. We don't need long wait times and if we can cut out Japan vs Spain style moments with technology already in use, that'll go a big part of the way to helping out.
Where is Joey Barton? Please help us!
the big news is at the end, "no point deduction unless its serious enough." that means man city are getting away with their FFP problems by paying fines. NOT POINTS
yup litro
how is that a good idea starting it through the middle of the season. we'll get a lot of controversies from this!!
the reason the meeting was so long was because manchester city has to ask all their lawyers if they could veto this bill.
Offside should be the opposite to what it is. Clear daylight with attacker in front. It was brought in to stop the goal hanging, half drunk, lazy strikers of the distant past. This is the reason why not as many were given back in the day....sorry to go on.. Any type of level should be onside. Imagine how many goals we'd get 😁
I didn't want to hear about coffee
I don't understand why they don't start the season with it. Because if its proven like he says. Then why not
"Is the player blocking or interfering with the keeper vision?" still will be another debate for offside
That’s why it can only be semi automated. Being in an offside position is not an offence. A human has to decide that.
But was it a good coffee for an £8 coffee, Kaveh?
85% For every club! What you mean they must spend less cz they make more. The other clubs should make more nobody's stopping them, it will never be equal unfortunately
Why implement it after season starts!?
They have to test it first
So many city can be given a head start
4:40 I've got a crazy idea, why not monitor it from above where those "crowded area" scenarios won't matter.
VAR would be great if the refs actually cared about getting the call right. Seems to me that they are more worried about their own egos.
If we can't get this to work when it has been shown time and time again that it can be implemented perfectly, then I give up.
Would it be that hard for a camera to follow the second last man, or just in the general area where you can see STRAIGHT, not bull$hit skew drawn lines, across the pitch.
Since they made the rule for the linesmen to not put up the flag unless its obvious ive never had any complaints.
Works pretty well? Gee where have we heard that before?
Now that's done, lets replace the officials with proper ones?
what if the offside rule changes next season?
Britain adapted warm water later too..
I take issue with Vikki here, algorithms are not judging football. They’re just telling you the players' positions on the pitch. The offside will be judged by the officials.
Get Afield agenda on the show he knows what he's talking about
Why the hell is not coming in straight at the start of the season. That is ridiculous 😤😤😤
Lol, They will even find a way to mess this up! The officials in The Premier League couldn't officiate a game of Tiddlywinks. 🤣🤣
Why am I listening to this guy talk about coffee?
why does the Fa always have to be different???? standardise the system that everyone uses.
Var is not a technology.. it just a couple of blokes reviewing replay and drawing a line in Microsoft paint haha 😂
The Premier League once again thinking they no better then everyone else and not using the system that is proven to work in International football. Shock.
1st min just talking about coffee
But Serie A is using a good technology to determine off sides and there's no complaints compared to the EPL.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the English FA find a way to screw this up
About time!!!!
Doesn't remove the anomaly where an attacking players head or shoulders are offside giving the advantages to the defender. It's football. Most goals scored with the feet.
He probably didn't sleep last night thinking about the 8 pounds 🤨
Humans reliance on technology is getting so far out of hand.
Its not hard to figure it out that this was forced by betting companies. They get so much bemefit
So basically you attend a big meet at a five star and they don’t even offer you some drinks and snacks 😩
This better not be an elaborate distraction. I still want the PGMOL held accountable for the disgraceful refereeing mistakes this season. Killed the fun of a lot of games WE pay for
About time too .
Nice
£8.00 that nowt, i one paid £14 for two cups of tea
Complications... trust the epl to mess this up
